  • love watching 147 breaks top professionals doing what they do best and making it look rediculasly easy ..... what a shot on the pink under that pressure!

  • Legend simples !

  • Before this the 147 must have seemed mythical to the average punter

  • Steve Davis - one of the snooker greats.

  • queen elizabeth hall oldham brilliamt

  • 147 maximum and you win a Lada car, what a fucking dissapointment! I bet he flogged that on pretty sharpish :o)

  • Incredible!

  • @Astoriabhoy I meant what a shite break-off shot from John Spencer.

  • unbelievable

  • The other guy = Forever Alone :(

  • Amazing

  • the best there is,the best there was and the best there ever will be!!!

  • Steve Davis is a legend.

  • Very Interesting.

  • I thought your username was hardcorewank for a second there hahahaha

  • And just to think, he won a Lada car for this feat! :)

  • he is very good but BORING !

  • was it first 147 ever?

  • @talhajutt1 Definately not. Fred Davis always made them but this was this first on TV

  • @talhajutt1 first televised 147 yes

  • 'Could possibly be thinking of winning this Lada car' - lucky man

  • great

  • Steve Davis was by far the best player of his generation, like Stephen Henry was ten years later.

Jimmy White was 5 years younger then Steve Davis and only 7 years older then Stephen Henry. Jimmy was great (6 times runner up), but never won.

@wideboy123 : In 1985 Steve Davis simply was tired. 18-17 after a tough tournament.

It was like Fignon, who lost the Tour de France in 1989 to Greg Lemond, by 8 seconds. OK, Greg used a better bike, but he also was less tired at the very end.

  • go on my my son!!!

  • Those last 3 shots were bloody difficult, only the very best players could pull those shots off.

  • 12 people are grazy

  • o steve e muito fera

  • which year was this?

  • @asbani911 0:01 .. Come on, are you really THAT blind?

    On-topic: awesome quality for 1982..

  • you make the first century break on tv and you get a lada car?

    thats cruel !

  • STEVE DAVIS THE FUCKING MASTER!!!! GENIUS!

  • He certainly made it hard on himself. Gotta be top-5 all time of 147s. So many hard shots potted to keep it going.

  • @dtwplaya so many hard shots suggest to me he runs out of position to many times

  • The big one, The LADA CARS Snooker Classic. :)

  • thinking of a lada car!

  • What a TERRIBLE break shot!

  • the audience claps at everything

  • I can say what not many people can. Because i can tell of when i played steve davis in a game of pool in july,2007 in las vegas in the rio hotel in the ladbrokes poker lounge because my dad is a member so i can get in. Who else can say that now? (even though i lost but still)

  • @xMaGilLJRx...... i played jimmy white in a game of pool at a hotel bar in mansfield and won. not many ppl can say dat.,

  • worst break off shot ive ever seen in my life i think

  • the title and the description ruined the moment for me... phooey!!!

  • No school like the old school... and this guy was the headmaster!

  • uhh ok, wow

  • steve davis was very handsome!

  • Steve if you read this, you owe me 5 quid from the 1985 final. How in the world could you lose that?

  • @2:43 Whoa! This is the first time I've seen a bank shot in snooker (US-American pool player here). Very cool indeed.

  • @nimajnebrm We just call it a double here :D

  • The earliest 147 televised, and Steve's only TV max, and one of the best in my opinion, yet this break is very rarely reshown for some reason

  • @delboy723 Its because ITV has the rights but ITV don`t broadcast snooker any more unlike the BBC who can`t show it becAUse ITV has the rights and if the BBC SHOWED IT THEN iTV would get mad and call Bbc BAD NAMES LIKE 147 snooker break stealers AND then there`d be a big fight between ITV and BBC and THEY WOULD BEAT EACH OTHER UP until ITV became TVI and BBC became BCB and Ronnie O Slabberyvan will never win the title ever again

  • whats with the video at 4:16

  • Amazing how these guys constantly chalk their sticks! Surprised they didn't have a chalk to chalk another chalk!

  • @gorillabelly1 You clearly no nothing about snooker if you called a CUE a stick

  • @gorillabelly1 You clearly no nothing about snooker calling a CUE a stick

  • @cheerslloret

I "no" nothing? LOL! Nice one! Cue or a stick, they'd feel the same when I shoved one up your behind!

  • Britian in it's heyday!

  • one of the best maximum ever and certainly a historical 1.

  • Totally relaxed ?? well played Steve.

  • Steve Davis is a legend. It's a pity that some idiots have to swear when they make a comment. People who do that are of very low intelligence.

  • Fantastic! I think I was 16 when I watched this on TV.

  • that was the first video ever I watched at youtube...

  • the other commentator sounds like a dick.

"the pockets must be getting smaller and smaller every second now", "no..." replies the other commentator

  • @aznsushiboi dont you mean he goes FAP FAP FAP FAP FAP....

  • i love him hes amazing player

  • Last pink was pure class.

  • that's the worst break off i have ever seen.

  • the shot where he potted the black and got position on the red was absolutely brilliant!!

  • he was paid by john higgins to do this

  • superb 147 by steve, thanks for uploading

  • once chuck norris decided to try his hand at snooker. he got a 148 break.

  • @sr19 PROBABLY THE LEAST FUNNY THING IVE EVER READ. SORT UR LIFE OUT SON...

  • @pistolpeeroy im sure it was. have a nice day

  • @sr19 cool cheers dude, have a good wknd n dont go drillin 2 many birds, smoke too much weed or drink too much. boom...

  • @sr19 it is a possible break to make in snooker ;)

  • @MatthewDavidParr really? how so?

  • @sr19 Basically, to make a 147 you need 15 red/blacks and all the colours, but if your opponent fouls and leaves the white ball so you are snookered, you get what is called a free ball. The free ball allows you to pot a coloured ball as if it was a red, so essentially giving you a 155 possible break.

  • amazing~!

  • It was a great break but it seems strange that his opponent John Spencer could make such a terrible break off shot. I mean, come on, the break off shot is exactly the same every time and your a 3 time world champ. I can understand an amateur hitting the blue on the way back to baulk but for a pro to almost go in off directly into the corner??? Looks like a set up. I think they both wanted to ride together in that Lada car and made sure an English player had the first televised 147.

  • @phdgraffiti HA WOT A SHIT THEORY! I DOUBT VERY MUCH THATS TRUE YA COCK....

  • @phdgraffiti the oponnent can in no way effect the making of a 147

  • @outdoorpooltable I have as much respect for Davis as anybody but when your playing someone that good, breaking off and opening 8 of the reds and leaving the white at that end of the table is like giving the frame away and setting someone of his skill level up for a possible 147. John Spencer is a professional and former world champ. The break-off is the same every time and he almost scatched? Hit reds a little too thickly?? Come on. Don't recall any of Ronnies or Hendry's 147's start like that.

  • @phdgraffiti you are an idiot. Your use of the word "scratch" implies that you are a pool player and you obviously don't understand anything about snooker. Seriously this is one of the most retarded theories I've ever heard.

  • @outdoorpooltable Your name is outdoorpooltable and your the snooker expert? I've had centuries myself dude and practice with Cliff Thorburn former world snooker champ on a regular basis. Look at this clip again and ask yourself how bad the break-off would have to be to leave Steve in the favorable position he was in when he came to the table. If it was this position after a badly played safety it would make sense. Better yet go to the snooker table and try to break off this bad. Intentional.

  • First Televised 147 snooker break by steve davis.

  • the 1st 147 was by joe davis it was being recorded for tv but the camera man went to lunch and missed it. this break was done a short ime later by a jet lagged davis. imo jjoe davis was screwed over by technology:) but a good break all the same!

  • @nomerite HA I THINK THATS A MYTH THAT THE CAMERA MAN WENT TO LUNCH!! HOW STUPID IS THAT!?! AVA THINK SON...

  • Magnificent! What cool professional, 147!

  • And all of that with heavy balls and a slow cloth compared to todays dynamic tables - this should be compared with O'sullivan's speed and mastery of the new game - slower, but just as sure - both geniuses in their time.

  • The First of Legendary 147 Different Character with Ronny.

  • WOW that's incredible!! You don't usually see snooker players taking risks like bank shots and kicking balls out of the pack. Insane and genius at the same time!

  • @johnpilon BANK SHOT?! ARE YOU A YANK?

  • @pistolpeeroy no I'm a proud Canadian but you seem to be a douchebag with too much time on his hands and just like to send rude comments to everyone. Piss off.

  • @pistolpeeroy

    Umm....

    I think you've overcommented this a bit.

Are you related to Steve Davis, son?

  • @johnpilon you're an idiot. shut the fuck up.

  • I used to hate steve davis when he was winning everything.. now he's bloody hero

  • u are fucking amazing

  • genius at work ;D

  • impressive!

  • Who won the Lada then? :D Good break indeed.

  • 5:14 "The atmosphere is absolutely electric." LOL?

  • when was this???

  • @bruchpilot747 January 11th 1982

  • #VIDEOPOSTERID#, I hate the fact that youtube does not allow full tv shows and movies. I now have to go to stream episodes (.) net to watch tv shows and movies instead while I prefer to watch everything on youtube.

First Maximum Break on Television (by Steve Davis)

  • a great double on the red, cocky indeed. a great last red and pink too...

  • @coys77 cocky he knows he can best snooker player of all time in my opinion

  • I thought Cliff Thorburn was the first to get maximum break on TV, in 1983, I think.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I remember it particularly because he FLOOKED the first red.

  • Comment removed

  • t was actualy steve who made the first televised 147 he actualy commented about the fact he won a lada car rather than the 147 thousand people get now loi it was the lada car classic or something the tournament @Seanoooog

  • @Seanoooog Cliff was the first to get one at the World Championships. This was a different tournament - apparently sponsored by Lada cars!

  • @Perranporth Correct - & his prize for clearing up? A Lada. Jesus...

  • lol if he could see it back then, it was potted, playing a double so early in a frame lol cocky little nugget.

  • or games are ended in a reasonable time i should have said, anyway nice to see this posted. great vid 5*s

  • having said that i wouldnt mind betting a little on the pockets having a cm or two added, they are certainly a little different from the tables you or i would play on in a normal social style club, its so that frames are played at a reasonable time.

  • i can understand people asking if tables used to be smaller back then, the answers no but the reason they look it are based on two things. 1) Camera as someone said being further away but 2) and just as important, the colour of the wood and in some cases the cloth, darker makes things look smaller. They really do look smaller even i used to wonder myself once.

  • Did snooker tables used to be smaller? Or do the tables in older footage just look smaller than nowadays due to lower quality camera lenses?

  • @huweybaby the camera is just higher and further away , also the lens may b diffrent too. tables were same size though.

  • @adibeh

The Rocket was not at his best but did enough to win 5-3 against the six-times world champ, who has not beaten him since the 1998 Masters.

I am wondering why do you ask, if you have any doubts about his quality you should take some tame to watch and read old snooker material. Only player comparable to Steve is Handry. Rocket is great player but mentally unstable and with poor manners.

  • He won a Lada for this? Wow!!!

  • I'm from Serbia and this game is not popular at all here but i watched Steve Davis in his 1st round match and now 2nd and i am falling in love with this game :)

  • He looked very very good tonight. If he can keep this up, it won't be easy to beat him.

Maybe he has one last magic in him...

  • @biytc78 he'll get devastated in the next 2 sessions to 13-7 max. shitty jewfucks

  • no one in snooker now would have made a shit job of breaking the reds in your first shot then that stupid twat did hear.

  • what year was it when he beat hendry or ronnie?

  • has he ever won against hendry or sullivan?

  • @adibeh of course he won perhaps more often than any other player against these two...

  • @adibeh

    Yep.

He used to dominate the young Hendry and Ibelive he still has the score on him.

Ronnie calls Steve his greatest idol and also lost againt him, but only occassionally.

But there is an age gap...

  • How ironic the first TV maximum somehow involved John Spencer in 1982 - When in the late 1970s,Spencer made a 147 himself.......BUT, they were on a commercial break or not broadcasting at that point?! - Ofcourse, the greatest player of the 1980s Steve Davis HAD to have the first televised maximum accolade!

  • @CHRISK5STAR And Spencer's 147 was not officially ratified. So this break by Davis was the first official competitive 147.

  • What a great professional and player. He was the best in the 80s totally dominated the world of snooker and was always humble in winning or defeat. I will never understand how he lost a world title to Joe Johnson - whom never really won anything after that final. However he did extract his revenge when he met Johnson the following year and rightly so. Young players should use Davis as a template for there focus on how to be the best at what you really want. Take a bow Mister Davis.

  • i like his celebration...it was funny but cute :) go nugget...

  • wooo i had my pic taken with him today :D

  • i wish he still could play like this. he lost his game when he became a nice guy.

  • ...and I bet HE wished he'd played like this in the world championship that year. Nontheless, this was great break from 'the nugget' - watch him pot that last red, piston perfection! (and under huge pressure - he wanted it, that's for sure). What an excellent example and standard he set during the eighties. He was a great champion.

  • i am the eggman.. I AM THE WALRUS! Beatles rule.

  • amazing.

  • The referee sound like alan tichmarsh!!!

  • Rex Williams might have made the first 147 but he's only at the tenth red now!!

  • why does it say this was in Oldham,it was in Warrington,i went later in the tournament.

  • The Classic moved to the Spectrum Arena, Warrington in 1983.

  • I know one of the commentators is John Pullman, but I don't know the other one.

  • @cbak12sg - David Taylor

  • I assume you mean that the Silver Fox was John Pullman's co-commentator, rather than the first player to do a live 147.

    Thanks either way!

  • Yes, commentator David Taylor, not to be confused with Dennis, as John Pullman did in this frame

  • David Taylor, wasn't he the first player to make 3 consecutive century breaks in a tournament match?

  • I took part in a quiz a while ago, and had a row over the first televised 147, which I remembered from this short lived event shown on ITV, but the people setting the questions didn't (they thought it was Cliff Thorburn at the world championships the following year)

Does anyone know what the first LIVE televised 147 was. This one and Thorburn's were not shown as they happened.

  • I always thought Kirk Stevens made to first televised maximum good to be put right I suppose.Jesus I'd of given someone else the car tho.

  • @SRV1DOORS1HENDRIX1

Kirk Stevens was the third televised 147. And I'd have accepted the car, then sold it for scrap. At least it would make a bit of money

  • Cliff Thorburns maximum was the first maximum break at the World championship, and was in 1983. This was in 1982 so this was the first.

  • twat

  • @kavrom WRONG. THIS was the first televised 147, more than a year earlier than Thorburn.

Thorburn's was the first 147 at the Crucible, and the first 147 on BBC, but THIS was the first televised 147 (it was on ITV)

  • first offically recognised 147 was by Joe Davis in 1955. He also recorded the first official century and first century to be recorded on TV. He made 658 centuries but only one of his centuries was ever recorded on camera. First maximum on TV was by Joe Spencer but like McElinney65 said, TV crew had gone on a break so it wasnt recorded on TV.

  • @emirates247 JOHN Spencer, not Joe. And his 147 wasn't officially recognised, because the table pockets were oversized. This 147 by Davis was the first official 147 in competitive play.

  • and he got a fucking lada car .i would of played to go in off the first red fuck that

  • Old school is old school. Even the Referee wanted to shake his hand, wow!

  • Poor old John Spencer, he made a 147 a few years previously and the TV crew had gone for a break!

  • lol ))) I'm Russian, and I know what kind of sh*t are our Lada cars )) I can't believe that Lada was a sponsor of this championship ))

About billiards: I play russian pyramid, but I like snooker too!! Good game

  • that is him duh

  • I have a hard time believing a 3 time world professional champion like John Spencer could fuck up the break shot that bad. Awesome break by Steve though. Are there no more videos of Steve in the 1980's besides this 147 and his loss against Taylor? He was on tv more than the queen back then right???

  • i wanna see how he solves at 4:13... i just want to watch the whole game!

  • harold bishop at 7.50

  • amzing play!

all that for a lada haha !

  • just love the reserved little "cmon get in" at 6:54, from a subdued guy in the rest of the commentary. Just what this break is all about.

  • what a nice moment .. whats even more beautifull is that it was done by a true gentleman ....what a person davis is ! much love :)

  • o come on...dis guy is a prodigy

  • is that true ?

  • is that true?

  • Ha ha!! thats funny. I dont know why you have 5 thumbs down though!

  • I have never seen this kinda game before. Just normal 8 ball and 9 ball. Looks very interesting though. Have no idea the rules but it looks much stranger. 5 stars

  • its a much jarder game, the balls are heavier, smaller and the table is 12 foot by 6 foot........ such a hard game..... im a bit of a pool shark but id be lucky to score a break of 10 in snooker never mind a 147.. these guys put in 8 hours a day practice for years b4 they reach this standard, steve davis actually plays pool in the states, do a search for him. fantastic player......

  • It's just marvelous for me to see Steve in his early snooker years-of course he is one of the greatest players in all the time, and he also is one of my favourite players. This brake was significant about his aptitude

  • wtf this guy brentis2529 is an idiot!!!

    OVERSIZED POKETS?????

has he even seen a championship table before?

    dont think so!!

brentis GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT B4 U SPEAK OK!!

  • Whats pool got to do with anything, im talking about how people get excited over these stupid breaks, no one mentioned pool, i dont play pool anyway, what are you talking about , are you confused. anyway ill leave it at that,

    P.S ..Stop talking to Yourself
