  • Anybody know the size of the shot?

  • this thing could shred an elephant to hash

  • About fucking time. We've had these huge smoothbore cannon for decades and nobody thought to revisit the canister rounds used in old cannon.

Now I wouldn't use it as much against massed infantry. Try birdshot for those pesky attack heilcopters. Tungsten shot would tear those composite rotors to shreds...

  • WTF i thought this was made up for BF3 :O

  • @pingopete BF3 is not a game , BF3 is a war simulator its all real , there is no fake things in that game

  • @niceboy60 straightpull bolt? No kill shoulder shot with barret 95 even on hardcore. undisputably its alot more realistic than cod but its not all realistic , otherwise it wouldnt be fun :L

  • "Excuse me, good sir. It so appears that you didn't seem to get the message; I am in a tank. Just to further compound that you will lose, I will now load our main gun with this tank-sized shotshell and tell you and everyone behind you to go fuck yourselves, at muzzle velocity!"

  • TV Tropes sent me.

  • 1:19 Everything in that forest died r.i.p.

  • You can fire this type of shell in Battlefield 3. I'm not even kidding. And yes, it's as fucking badass as it looks. I will never use the LMG again! KABOOOM. Take that, motherfuckers!

  • Ouch, imagine some hunters in the woods behind the range...

  • Fuck. Just fuck. If I am ever on the other side of that thing, fuck my life.

  • @danielkiang271 lol'd @ life, guess that won't be in your vocabulary if any of the pellets hit you, that's for sure.

  • fuck having that flying at you.

  • Waiting to see the FPSRussia test...

  • Parh a Tank loaded with one of those at Wall Street and dare them to Camp...

  • i like how in the first shot a ball came right at the camera

  • so these balls look about half an inch across... tungsten? flying at about 3000+ fps? if that even knicks a guy he's fracked, torso hit? what torso?

  • hmm, grape shot was musket balls loaded into a muzzle loaded cannon loose... antipersonel weapon favoured by the navies back when ships sailed with real sails.

  • just stay down haji... it aint worth it. also my brother was tanker and saw some these tested. he told me that on one of the shots the can ruptured in the tube and the balls destroyed the gun barrel... shit happens with guns, cars and chicks it seems.

  • They used rounds like this in Vietnam called flechette or beehive rounds for the 105mm howitzers. It like canister but with flechettes which are like small darts. They used it in Nam to pretect fire bases from NVA attacks and in tanks to clear the jungle.

  • @AUG351 The Aussies used cannister in their Centurion tanks to clear the jungle and flechette in recoil-less rifles on fire support base perimeters.

In the book: The Battle of Coral by Lex McAulay it details the use of both. My father in law is mates with a signaller based at FSB Coral.

My Dad was a M60 gunner and fought alongside the Centurions in a couple of bunker clearing contacts.

  • @greg313662 Yeah, also the M60 Patton was armed with 105mm and could fire flechette and used the 105mm howitzers from fire bases and like you said the recoiless-less rifles to fire flechette if being attacked. I've read that after they fired the flechette into the attacking NVA troops they were riddled with so many flechettes they could drag the bodies away by the rifle buts nailed to their hands.

  • it did ! XD and i am pretty shocked this really excists ! what the hell ?! :D

  • Thumbs up if BF3 brought you here.

  • HE FRAG is better and cheaper

  • just the thing for unruly anarchists and occutards

  • What would this to a human being?

  • @Elderunlimited9

I find it interesting to read the description of this video and the following phrase that the 120mm cannister round was " honored as being one of the top 10 Army inventions of 2004."

From an Australian point of view and our involvement in Vietnam, they were using cannister rounds with the Centurion tanks to clear jungle coverage of bunkers so that they were easily spotted and henceforth dealt with via AP or HE rounds.

    As "Elderunlimited9" asked...my answer is...SPLOOSH!!!!!

  • @greg313662 Canister Shot has been around since the Great War, and before that it was called grape shot.

  • @wikieditspam Ah yes, of course. Right you are. I have indeed read of grape shot. I swear that as I read a book one falls out of my memory. So many war and weaponry related books, so little time!

  • @wikieditspam Actually grape shot is different than canister, it is canister with larger shot used for bigger cannons. They used it with cannons like the Columbiads in the Civil War used in battles like the attacks on fort fisher and fort wagner. Canister is for field guns with smaller shot but still bigger than musket balls.

  • @AUG351 This article needs additional citations for verification. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. (April 2011) did you use wiki to correct me? I am not firearms expert nor a historian, but I don't know if you are. I'm working from what I've heard.

Grapeshot is considered a historical term, colloquially referring to metal shot fired from naval guns, sometimes held to gather with a simple frame.

  • @wikieditspam I know those facts because I have a few books about Civil War artillery and they contain info about different ammunition like grapeshop, canister, solid shot. One is called Cannons by Dean S. Thomas. So are you asking to contribute to the wiki page for grapshot?

  • @AUG351 no but it looks like it could use some love.

  • @greg313662 well they weren't useing THIS round... the canister being used back then was likely filled with steel balls and there were also flechette rounds, called 'nails' (one of my favorite colloquial descriptors)... i imagine they would still ruin ones day. sploosh... i like that...

  • @cwross1976 Yes, you're right, they didn't use this particular round. They had a 84mm gun but I'm not sure of the metal used for the shot. Aussie Centurions didn't use Flechette to the best of my knowledge although our infantry in Fire Support bases "Coral" and "Balmoral used flechette in their recoil-less rifles to decimate massed human wave attacks by the Vietnamese.

I'm hazy on the details but one crew set their rounds for 1/4 second delay against a set of waves of infantry to no effect.....

  • @cwross1976 Then the recoil-less crew set their rounds to muzzle blast to devastating effect which annihalated the Vietnamese and brought the attacks to a halt.

When the infantry did a clearing patrol in the morning it was found that the 1/4 second delay flechette were in fact exploding in the Vietnamese forming up area for the wave attacks.

This was detailed in the book: The Battle of Coral by Lex McAulay. My Father in law is mates with a signaller involved in the battle.

  • aka human butcher

  • Tanks have had canister rounds since at least World War 2, if not earlier. Still badass

  • i just unlocked this in battlefield 3

  • @Fire17y fuck yeah :D

  • Just imagine all the collateral damage and friendly fire this shell may cause... it's somewhat a step back in weapon's technology. Reminds me of late 19th century cannon rounds.

  • @IamtheAlienator 19th century warfare... now THAT was pure carnage! o.O

  • that looks Evil

  • youd look like edam cheese if that hit ya

  • aha so it does exist...

  • QUAD KILL WITH ONE OF THESE

  • In before a thousand comments about Battlefield 3.

  • battlefield 3 will have these

  • 1150 balls and one unlucky bastard that gets hit with that wad that held them!

  • During veotnam they fired rounds similar to this but loaded with flechettes and they called it the beehive. There are reports from the firing of beehive tank rounds that VC fighters were found with their hands naioled to the wooden parts of their ak-47s so forcibly the whole body could be dragged off by the ak barrelle. But this will just shred rend tear and maim like tghe old anti infantry 18 pounders of ww1

  • GET SOME ! ! !

  • HOLEY SHIT THATS OP!

  • for the first 1:20 min I was like "meh"... then I was like "GEEEEEEZZZZ"

  • Waits for them to hit something, nothing happens. Well, fuck.

  • the video won't load :(

  • Used during the second world war to give the tank crews something to 'answer' with when they saw their colleagues tanks being overrun with infantry, u can fire this thing directly at your buddies tank swarming with infantry and do no damage to the tank but you can imagine what damage this would do to the infantry not to mention the 100's of ricochest that would cause you wouldn't want o be within 50yds i bet

  • Tank shotgun. Those zombies are f*cked now.

  • @crazy4sian too bad they only carry about 3 canister shots, the rest are either HEAT or sabot

  • @Umimugo That's one zombie horde down in one shot; three zombie hordes down in three shots. I like my chances a little better when it's more than one zombie per shot.

  • @crazy4sian thats only if hits the head, even if it is tungsten it'll only go through a few bodies so, no it won't cut a horde down in a single blast and all the metal could've been used to make thousands of rounds for rifles. The best way to take on a horde is with the british Infantry lines. 1 row shoots til empty, reloads, the other row shoots while the 1st is reloading. Constant and accurate fire.

  • @Umimugo Still more than one zombie down per shot.

  • @crazy4sian using this round in Urban area would be reckless and against every regulations a IED would cause far less damage to locals

    .

Would be like criticizing terrorist for killing civilians and then start shooting this rounds in city's ?

    .

this weapons would make terrorists look like good guys as it causes far more destruction & suffering than any IED or suicide bomb is capable of

  • this makes a 10 gauge look like a 22. ratshot

  • i pity the man who gets that big chunk in his face....

  • id like to see 1 of theses tanks back when the civil war was on. it would be like army charge, rahhhhhh.... boom tank wins

  • @mattymatt2323 I'm pretty sure that they used to do exactly this with cannons back then. Fill them with ballberings, nails ect and fire them when the infantry got close

  • Lotta good that everything did ya.

  • Well. Fuck Me. That's AWESOME.

  • i have found my next shot cannon not shotgun

  • The shrapnel shell evolved.

  • Ok, not sure if this has already been said...but Chuck Norris duck hunts with this round.

  • use flechete rounds =D

  • Humanity. Cure for cancer? NO. Shotgun tank shell? YES.

  • @radix9523 stupidity, thinking things through? no. spewing idealistic drivel? yes

  • 1 rpg round can penetrate the armor in the back of an m1a2

  • @IWANAROCKYEEEAAAA That's why tanks face towards enemy positions and engage from long range... The main gun on the Abrams has an effective range of over three kilometres, the RPG7 has a range of 150 - 200m

  • @soildmoose yea, but im talking abouth ambushes as an example the t-90 armor cant be penetrated by rpg rounds

and all tanks can be damaged or destroyed by mines and home-made mines

  • @IWANAROCKYEEEAAAA Oh, it can. It all depends on the RPG, and where it hits. If it hit the back of it and it had additional armor then yes, it would be safe, and not all that hit the abrams go through. The only that that is pretty much indestructable is the Challenger two....It's just 10mph then the abrams, but both have the same armor, except for the brits tougher hide. I wanna see the leclerc in combat...Just puting that out there. We need some FRENCH SUPPORT. One for the...Frenchies

  • @MegaBuster777 the t-90 armor(the last t-90 model not the old one with the t-72m chazis)has been tested against a 120mm cannon at 200m with shells that have the same penetration of the ones used in the m1a2 and it holded 6 shots then it moved to the ovservation plataform.

so i do not think that a rpg-7 with tandem ammo can make seriuos damage to the t-90 exept in the tracks but thats the defect of all tanks.

  • @IWANAROCKYEEEAAAA Yes, yes I do. The T-90 I do not find supperior, no offense to the russians, but yeah. the gun on the abrams, and all the NATO contries, I find superior. It's still got the issues with the ammo in the front. It's possible, because no modern tank isn't just taken out with one shot, and if it is, then it was most likely a lucky break. You make it weaker before you break through. The T-90 hasn't currently services the Tungsten armor yet, which may turn things around.

  • @MegaBuster777 yea. you are right

olso the t-90 is still in modernisation and tests because of the new rearment project of the russian army

  • @MegaBuster777 are you on freakin drugs?

  • @MrColdmasta No, if you have any arguement about russian tanks being superior, YOU'RE on drugs.... I'm not crazy thinking a death trap can kill it's crewman.

  • @MegaBuster777 first of all...how old are you really...and what makes u think they are death traps anyways...i was a gunner on a leopard 2 tank for a year and we have alot of info about other tanks and such...so yeah i have alot of arguments about russian tanks being superior in some ways

  • @MrColdmasta So...you're most likely german, and even though I'm not a gunner in a leopard 2, which I will give you props for. Mostly because you've shot one of the best tank guns in the world, on one of the best tanks, if not the best tank in the world. Sadly though, I don't find russian tanks that superior. That is my opinion and I'm gonna stick to that. They do have good perks, like low profile, and great mobility, but nothing that I can find that make it amasing....

  • @MegaBuster777 nah, im from Norwat...but dont underestimate ur enemy as they say ;P the newest russian tanks like the t90 or even the new t-95 or also called the black eagle have extremely good armor to

to be honest...i dont think any modern tank now would be able to knock each other out if they shoot at each others front armor...tests done by the germans when they fire at a leo2 a6...they fired 6 shells. 4 bounce off and 2 were still standing in the armor

  • @MegaBuster777 Norway :P not norwat

  • @MrColdmasta I said Norwat?

  • @MegaBuster777 nah, i said norwat for some reason, but meant norway

  • chill moment

  • I like the fleschette darts more (i don't know that I spelled that correctly)

  • Beautiful yet deadly

  • Beautiful shock wave at 0:26!

  • oh cool my view count is a palindrome. 669,966

  • A single tank company vs 100 000 onrushing idiots = a lot of bird food.

  • that is enough to make any living creature to a pink mist

  • @Tracer2k It could turn the pink mist itself into more pink mist!

  • Awsome shock wave ahead of the spray!

  • ...because when someone is going to shoot an anti tank rocket at you, they will wait long enoug for you to load one of these, turn to aim at them, and fire it....

  • Allah, Hamburger for the US!

  • OMG, did you guyz see the last part ?!!

Can you see how this thing really spreads ? this shell would kill a battalion from the Napoleonic wars haha

  • @masterco93 They had canister shells back then, you know.

  • @SAsgarters

yea, but I don't think it was that effective.

  • So, what's 120mm in shotgun gauge?

  • Maybe we could adapt this for an anti-aircraft gun

  • i was imperessed by the camera before i read your comment!!!!

  • for when buck shot is infective.:)

  • any one else thinking "zombie gun" when watching this? XD

  • thumbs up for high quality video!

  • 0:09 is freaking sweet

  • Just curious, why does the 'plug' looking thing fire at the same speed as the shot? Why isnt it slowed down by aerodynamic drag?

  • @zeroangelmk1it simply keeps going, it has about the same drag as the balls

  • Saw a round like this used on a mud brick building concealing 5 Hadjis in Iraq. All that was left was a pile of goo, with bits of bone in it. Impressive fuckin' round!

  • sweet. I can actually see the sonic boom. This weapon is for the future invaders of the US (Who knows who it could be this time)

  • For extreme hunting. You shoot once, and all the birds in the sky fall dead as shit. Seriously though, dangerous shit.

  • Canister is actually old tech. Its been around since the wooden sailing ships era.

  • OMG! Like a bloody claymore mine or ADM!

  • That's horrifying

  • Did the camera just get hit at the beginning?

    @rescuenyc2003

You should see the video of a railgun test. They manage to track the projectile while playing the video back at 30 fps.

  • I'd stick with the minigun, just a little bit easier to carry.

  • I thought the Geneva convention didn't allow use of canister shots like this?

  • @Gunslinger145 screw the geneva convention!

  • I thought many tanks now use fuse-proximity rounds instead of beehive rounds, such as for anti-air purposes.

  • @cybermonkey81 fuse-proximity doesn't work well against infantry.

  • @fresnel149

    Then what about Killer Junior?

  • rofl ur just in the wood smoking some weed, then some motherfcker sneaks up from behind and fires a fcking cannon ball while hes recording it at ur motherfckin anus

  • my favorite part 1:19

  • That big black thing you see flying, is that a wad? Or a slug maybe, like in Buck and Ball? -Nax

  • @NaxTactical It's the wad.

  • this is bad thing

  • 0:15 at first there was the BIG BANG

  • boom headshot

    boom headshot

    boom gib

    boom headshot

    boom headshot

    gib

    headshot

    headshot

    gib.

  • how many sand apes could a sandape killer kill if a sandape killer could kill sand apes.......... a shit load whith that round

  • Bullet hell in real life. Sweet.

  • hate to say it behive is not as new of a rouns as they say in this article

the first use in cobat was 1966 on the old m48 and m60 series tanks

infact the first generation of the m1 that had the 105mm rifeld bore fired beehive also

  • @jmkjr72 And some howitzers had the same thing, not to mention that the "shotgun" method for artillery has been used in deadly efficiency at Pickets Charge and the Caribbean pirates used it on many ships, they called it grape shot.

  • you should have the caliber/diameter of the balls in the description, it's 3/8th of an inch or .375 caliber.

  • Comment removed

  • What calibur are the tungsten balls???

  • @TheMohawkNinja 3/8th of an inch or .375 caliber, I sent you the link in PM since they don't allow links on comments or replies.

  • This is a great visual example of the big bang. Space traveling along time.

  • ouch

  • owch

  • mother of all shotguns. good for hunting ducks as well as velociraptors

  • Zombies won't stand a chance.

  • @villagepunk

Have you seen The Walking Dead? When I saw the tank at the end of the premiere, I immediately thought of this video and wished that they would use the round.

  • @nocturnusx7 lol yea, that would have solved all of their problems. I was hoping for some A1 Abrams action but was sadly disappointed.

  • now show the vid of it shooting down a crowded street in slow motion.

  • Time for duck huntin' :)

  • oh god, has anyone thought how messed up is the barrel now ??? god, this shit will never be able to shoot straight again...

    oh, lol, MURICANS ^^

sorry... cancel the "again"... never happened...

  • @kushtaker89

how would it mess up the barrel? its already a smoothbore cannon

  • that is a fuck load of ball bearings

  • 1 gauge shotgun :D

  • A tank will carry ONE of these out with it. It's allowed only one because of how destructive the shot is. I had a friend in Fellujah who got to fire one at a sniper. He said he fired it through a building and when the the Marines went to confirm the kill, they found a pile of raw hamburger.

  • @Spierred yeah, using these often can't be good when it comes to civilian and friendly casualties.

  • u can see the shock wave

  • i was wondering the other day if they used shit like this in modern cannons, kinda crazy its pretty new

  • "AA-12 World's deadliest shotgun!" I see that in the related videos tab... I'm pretty sure this is more deadly. Thats nearly 1,100, 3/8" diameter tungsten balls flying at amazing speeds, at long range...

  • 0:09 = Oh crap, that one is headed right at the camera!

Also: Holy crap. I'm officially impressed.

  • WOW!!

  • All fine and well! But who in there right mind is going to charge a tank???? Canister! Brill, but when the attacking enemy is that close things are looking bad.

  • All fine and well! But who in there right mind is going to charge a tank????

  • fuck i missed

  • ......mother of god

  • It's a Shotgun....for tanks.

  • That would leave nothing but red goo against infantry

  • tank fletchette shells are more effective.

  • anybody else impressed by the cameras ability to track a high speed target so accurately?

  • @rescuenyc2003 it uses a mirror

  • @rescuenyc2003

Yeah they measure the muzzle velocity of the round and then calculate where the round will be. So the camera is not "tracking" the shot its just pans really fast in a pre-calculated way in relation to the velocity of the round being fired. Sounds complicated but in theory it's pretty simple and looks amazing :D

  • @rescuenyc2003 hey bro, this is a high def cam filming a big angle far away, you only see a part of it, scaled to big picture.

  • @rescuenyc2003 They have many cameras set up in a line.

  • @rescuenyc2003 Pretty sure they just rotate a mirror rather than the whole camera, but it's still awesome.

  • @lx45803 - even doing something like that would require insane precision. I dont know how they do it, but it seems it would be easy to take a hd camera, with wide angle lens, or far away to take the footage, slow down the footage on the computer, and then track the shot using editing effects.

  • @rescuenyc2003 It's done with radar a mirror and a high speed camera (ofc)

  • @rescuenyc2003 they use rotating mirrors
