  • after so many years people continues watching this version of pride and prejudice, I love colin firth ,he is the best mr darcy ever.

  • Gawd this dialogue is so fake and staged.

  • @landgabriel Exactly my point. It has the feeling of "acting on stage" right?

  • Just magic. This is the best ever pride and prejudice.

  • reading the book- I don't think the 2005 film was quite accurate about Mr. Darcy's pride and character, but putting that inside I still truly enjoy the film even if it wasn't and I don't think theres anything wrong with that, If I like both

  • My grandad and nana love pride and predjudice

  • Now that was love. Jane Austen is a legend.

  • My God! KISS already!

  • I love 1:34, when they brush arms...

  • What a treat to find Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth on Youtube. Regrettably the playlist is jumbled and out of order!

  • "I believe I must date it from when I first saw his beautiful grounds at Pemberley"...damn Elizabeth what a golddigger lol

  • @clutteredmind9 maybe because she is not a GIRL but a WOMAN

  • @Leeleeleighly girl, woman, female, no need for technicalities.

  • Just the thing for a blustery November afternoon...I think I'll watch it from the very beginning now!

  • I've always been conflicted about this series. Jennifer Ehle had it in her to be the finest Elizabeth Bennet ever, only the direction of the film as a whole went astray more often than not. But Colin Firth is absolutely atrocious. Such wooden and self-conscious acting! He's certainly no Olivier. And horrid chemistry between the two of them, which I lay entirely to the charge of Firth.

  • @AladdinSE i was under the impression that self-consciousness was one of the personality traits of mr. darcy. at least, that was the first impression i got when i watched his body language. is he not supposed to be self conscious?

  • So ironic.. the first version that I watch was that one on 2005 but when I heard Mr Darcy I was thinking in Colin Firth, he's tottally a mr Darcy.. but I like both versions :)

  • The look in Colin Firth's eyes makes me melt every time.

  • i think i just melted from mr. darcys hottnesss <3

  • OMGAWD he didn't even ask to take her out on a first date. just bam marriage. and SHE ACCEPTED. hussy.

  • i just love to see how man in the past respect woman. the way they propose, confess their love and truly care, admit their faults and learn from it. what a gentleman. it's difficult to find man similar to that nowadays. same goes to how woman respect man too. =)

  • I am starting to think that Colin Firth is so lovable in all the roles that he plays

  • @blisswest He was kinda creepy in Girl with a Pearl Earring though...

  • ooh Mr Darcy <3 My dream

  • ohhh colin *swoons*

  • I think Keira and Matthew are a better Lizzie and Darcy and I like that movie better, though I must say I like this version too because they sticked better to the book.

  • colin firth is the ONLY mr. darcy.

  • Colin...YOU ARE MR DARCY!!!!!!

  • I would just met if he told me "My affections and wishes are unchanged" <3

  • I love the movie with Matthew mcfaynum and Kira knightly wayyyyyyy better!!!! sorry mr frith your just not my mr Darcy :/

  • @jemdog666 Thank you! my comment, got so many negative votes for saying that.

  • Colin Firth is THE only Mr. Darcy for me.

  • I'm 11 and this is my favorite movie of all time!! Thumbs up for Colin firth!

  • I love this version, it´s the best

  • When I heard about the BBC version of Pride AND Prejudice I went straight to find it and watch it myself. Damn. I wish I was Lizzy every time she's next to Mr. Darcy!!!!

  • I have this movie. And I love it. Love it. And I´m ten. And this is my favorite movie! And book..

Thank you Jane Austen and BBC!

  • Love love love love this BBC version!

  • Are all writers based on a true story ?,or that should be just imagination ,but anyway this was great arghhhhh :'(

  • i Prefer the 2005 vesion

  • she's no where near pretty enough for him...

  • How in the world are there 29 dislikes???

  • Become a fan of PERIOD ROMANCE MOVIES on facebook! :)

  • Um... is it me or is Colin Firth FREAKING HOT?????

  • When I saw the film I hated it and still aren't that fond but Kiera was okay as Elizabeth. But Jen and Colin are AMAZING!!! I've watched this series since i was six and now I'm fifteen-I make a point of watching it every year....or twice!

  • How I long that Mr. Dracy was real!!

  • My dearest, loveliest Elizabeth !

  • Amo esta versión de la BBC, y no me canso de verla... Y cada vez me enamoro un poco más del hombre perfecto: Mr. Darcy ♥

  • This one is ok...love the 2005 version!!!!

  • this is the only pride and predjudice! colin firth is mr darcy, he cannot be replaced!!

  • @MissSamiexx Uhh..I beg to differ. His acting was a tad too theatrical and was leaning towards being a tad dry. Would've been perfect if it were done on stage rather than on television. The realism that I was looking for was somehow lost in the series. It had that aura of "practicing" rather than acting. Don't get me wrong, Colin Firth is a great actor, his interpretation of Mr. Darcy was just a tad lacking for me.

  • I like the other one better 2005 version

  • so much better than the new pride and prejudice movie.. Jennifer Ehle is much better than Keira for this role... :)

  • @HogwartsCastle nothing obviously, just felt like saying smth abt your username when i saw it

  • @HogwartsCastle also just saw now u actually hate HP haha disappointing

  • @HogwartsCastle really? oh god bleah, no idea she was in kings speech, pretty easy to ignore. love your username btw

  • Colin Firth - perfect

"Actress" playing Elizabeth - jesusfuckingchrist she's soooo irritating

  • @curlyyyyyyyy Hey! Watch your language!! That's my LORD and Saviour Whose name you are disparaging!

  • @alwayscurious20 ?! she's your lord and saviour?...

  • i have to say i like the newer version better

  • I love P & P so much: I watch it at least twice a week.

Colin Firth is just so very perfect in this role.

  • OMG LOVE THIS PART!!!! LOVE YOU COLIN!!!

  • I like that scene more in the other movie

  • Well then ofcourse you are not a fan of Austen, I am not either, yet I am a fan of ACCURACY, and there for like this version. Hollywood just screws everything up nowadays, they just give you the same thing all the time, all they want to do is sell, like Mcdonalds, they will give you something that you know is not good for you. Damn all those adulterated products!

  • Bleh. I am not a fan of jane austin's stuff. But I *prefer* the one with Keira knightly, I like the mr darcy in that one.

  • Bridget jones you intolerable woman!

  • I enjoy the 1980's version.

  • I don't know why everyone must choose to either like the bbc version or the movie. I like them both! I mean, of course in the series everything is much larger and you get to know the characters better. But I think the movie is also very good, and I have to say that I prefer matthew as mr. darcy but that is just my taste. But anyway both of the versions are able to make me feel butterflies in my stomach.

  • To everyone who thinks there's no emotion or chemistry in this (the BEST) version: You're wrong. Kissing, hugging, and touching aren't the only ways to show love. There's body language, and it speaks volumes here. Look at his eyes when she declares her feelings...if that's not a man in love I don't know what is. Darcy and Elizabeth barely touch through the series, but the looks they give each other could melt steel. Now that's some fine acting, and no other version even comes close.

  • @TheGypsyette I really like your comment. There is emotion and chemistry. The touching isn't actually that necessary here. Anyway when were men and women allowed to touch each other in public? At balls and little more, I guess, so it won't match the time in which the story is set to do otherwise. But this fact makes any slight touch feel so electric, like the way they look at each other. you realise the protagonists are fine actors.

  • @TheGypsyette I could not agree more!

  • I was never much a fan of Pride & Prejudice but the last shot where they kiss made me cry. I love Elizabeth and Mr Darcy so much and this scene is also very amazing especially when she's like... they are quite the opposite, I was really awe struck. Just started reading the book.

  • I pictured him everytime I read Pride and Prejudice

  • 28 people have no taste :-)

  • gosh! i loove colin firth!!!!! he's sooo handsome, and he's mr perfect, lol, you know; the one you only read in books.

  • I love you Mr. Darcy!!!!!!! :D

  • tell me people! have you ever known a man who showed his feelings for you in this way? i think a Mr. Darcy could never exist...

  • Colin Firth IS THE Mr. Darcy. Anyone who reads the book can see that. Not to put down anyone else who plays him, but they are simply playing a role that really can't be touched.

  • Gah Colin Firth is so delicious XD What a great Mr. Darcy <3

  • 2005 version is better. Chemistry is much more profound than in this version. They don't look in love at all.

  • @giannafcb56 That's interesting cause they actually were dating in real life. But 2005 was good too.

  • Someone should make the book 'Presumption' into a movie, it's just too bad they might not be able to get the same actors. If you don't know what 'Presumption' is, it is the sequal to 'Pride and Prejudice' from the point of view of Mr. Darcy's sister Georgiana. It is not written by the same author, but I enjoyed it alot.

  • @Milkmouse1966 There are several 'Pride and Prejudice' sequels, I've read at least three and not come across 'Presumption'. So it would be incredibly hard to make a sequel, as no body agrees on what the plot should be.

  • @Elriaen Really? I never knew that. I should look for them sometime. The only reason I know about 'Presumption' is because my mom showed it to me.

  • @Milkmouse1966 Uh-huh I've read;

'Mr Darcy Takes a Wife: Pride and Prejudice continued' by Linda Berdoll (you might not like that one, it has a few X rated scenes) and its sequel 'Darcy and Elizabeth: Days and Nights at Pemberly' by the same author.

'Mr Darcy's obession' by Abigail Reynolds (That one is more of an alternate plot)

and 'Mr Darcy's Little Sister' by C. Allyn Pierson, which is a sequel from Georgiana's eyes.

    I'll look out for 'Presumption'!

  • @Elriaen I looked up'Presumption Pride and Prjudice' on Google (you can get it on amazon too) and it is written by a woman named Julia Barrett (who, a couple pages ino the book, is revealed to be two authors of two different names).

So there you go, you should read it sometime. :-)

  • i must admit, its super annoying how everyone is like " o my gosh, no emotion, hugs, holding hands or anything" thats just not what they did back then. You may notice Jane and Mr. Bingley didn't do that, they didn't say i love you and hold hands. I guess that's just not what they did, they didn't show loves of feeling or emotions. P.S. This is my favorite scene in the whole movie! I love Colin Firth.

  • wow, the actress playing Lizzy reminds me of a raven haired Meryl Streep.

  • @kendahke actually, Jennifer Ehle (Lizzy) is in fact blonde and has blue eyes. She just dyed her hair and put lenses for this series.

  • i found this version to be very boring and not romantic enough and he is a horrible Mr Darcy the book kept me up all night and this put me to sleep in like 10 min the movie version is much better

  • both versions are great. and colin firth is amazing, but i love the intensity between elizabeth and darcy in the 2005 version

  • this version of pride and prejudice is so much better than the new keira knightly version

  • Lizzy looks so old ... but very sweet

  • I LOVE Colin Firth he = the perfect Mr Darcy

  • oh this movie and the book ... all jane austen's classics make me smile , laugh , cry , expess all kinds of feelings ... Ehle and Firth are so wonderful in this scene !

  • Congrats for your Oscar, Colin Firth!

  • Oh, Colin... Colin... Such a good Mr Darcy...

  • @Katkaista i utterly agree!! there couldn't have been a better darcy!!!

  • @Katkaista The best mr. Darcy ever!!

  • I love the 6hr BBC version! I own it and it just gives me a smile to watch it.

  • @thatpecinalgirl where did u get it i really want to see it

  • @riyamalik94 I bought it on ebay!

  • @thatpecinalgirl my friends and I do a P&P marathon every year :-)

  • @cwv710 Aww now I wanna watch it! With the cold front we're getting in Houston and some hot chocolate, I think i'll be set for a 6hr marathon! lol

  • When she said grounds, something tells she wasn't necessarily talking about the gardens...;)

  • love it! i love darcy. tho he was a jerk but lizzy and him make a great couple. their personality are a great mix! i love this movie!

  • Elizabeth's flawed anyway, and what authority did she have on affairs of the heart? Only herself.

Even in Becoming Jane it highlights that she married darcy for his big house and wealth.

  • this Elizabeth seems to me as a weak character. I like Kiera Knightley because she's more bold in speech and actions like the book character.

  • @ysmn68 To each his own, but I think you're quite mistaken. This one seems far more true to the book than Kiera Knightley's portrayal. Much as I love Kiera and her portrayal as well, her characterization was clearly "modernized" a fair bit.

  • sorry i clicked twice

  • This movie is the single most amazing adaptation I have ever encountered. Its language is true to the novel while adding its own something extra. This quality is difficult to describe, but constantly present. I love the onscreen chemistry between Jennifer Ehle and Collin Firth.

And may I say - Collin Firth in this movie is the biggest hunk I have ever seen in a period drama. Sensuality rolls off his back. no actor, whether a hunk in real life or not has his presence.

  • "Dearest, loveliest Elizabeth... Oh swoon...

  • am i completely mad to close my eyes and pretend that he is saying this to me? ugh my overpowering infatuation with colin firth is definitely borderline psychotic.

  • @annabanana09876 Me too, friend. Me too.

  • I haven't seen this version of Pride and Prejudice, but from this clip it seems a lot more realistic, compared to the book, than the 2005 one... however, I can't help but cringe at the stiffness of the dialogue, which sounded much better on paper than on screen...

  • @Marievska I can understand your aversion to the "old English" here, however if you watch the movie\miniseries from the beginning, the language grows much more beautiful than just looking at a clip. Just as the book is difficult to read at the beginning if you're reading it for the first time, watching a clip does not give a true sense of how beautifully portrayed this version is, especially the dialogue and delievery. Though a bit long, if you loved the book, you must give this version a try!

  • @serendipity375 It's not exactly the language that I have a problem with, but more the manners... from a viewer living in the 21st century, they're acting so stiffly! Where is the passion? Then again, if I really want passion I souldn't be looking for it in Auten's work :P Anyway, I might try watching the whole thing someday, so that I really have something valid to say about it...

  • Concerning manners and P and P... as a male... I love the story also... for myself it has to do in part with the period... I would not call "Had you behaved in a more gentleman like manner," "old English," it is perfectly recognizable to any person who actually can speak the language and has read it in literature. The contrast to our... truly vulgar lowest comment denominator lazy ugliness and the manners in this period is sadly, stark. I love the bow in polite company signifying respect.

  • Matthew's curling pubic-like chest hair and KK's eyebrows makes for very hilarious viewing in the 2005 movie. I prefer this version.

  • the movie was so much better -_-

  • I adore this scene

  • Go on and propose to her again, colin, PROPOSE!!!

  • I think this version had a little bit more depth. Loved it:)

  • "Dearest, loveliest Elizabeth"

  • @alysha813 I always melt when he says thoes words <3<3<3

  • COLIN FIRTH BABY! omg

  • I've loved this ever since I saw it when I was 9 years old. And to this day I believe it to be the adaptation that is the closest to the book, both in actor/character representation, and script, and is the most historically accurate. I will forever be grateful for being exposed to this at so young an age, for I can trace my interest in literature to this movie. I applaud all who worked on it, they made it magical for me.

  • I feel like Jennifer Ehle forgot her lines here for some reason. Right around "Quite the opposite." I love this version but that part always bugs me.

  • (description): find out next on...failed soap operas!!!!

  • i was just watching this yesterday!! i love this one :)

  • I haven't seen the series but I love the movie, Pride & Prejudice is one of my favorite books, however this scene feel a little stiff to me, there not much emotion. I like the actors in the movie better.

  • @JenHaydenC i get wat ur saying :) i actually like both the movie and this. Well this truly sticks to the book n the movie i just cant help but like!

  • OOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH MISTER BENNITTTT

  • Colin Fairth is the best. I only watched that movie because of him in it.

  • mmm...esta version no la he visto, la del 2005 si y me gusto muchisimo habra q darle una oportunidad...

  • I think Matthew MacFadyen and Kiera Knightly were just as good as Lizzy and Darcy - don't blame them for a butchered script. They are only actors under the control of someone who thought they could rewrite Jane Austen (???) and a director who made everyone look kind of messy.

  • This one is my favorite one love it,the Knightly one was ok,but i thought Keira knightly played elizabeth mean I felt like she was always mad,

  • @xoxSnUgGLeBuNNiExox exactly my thoughts.. Keira looked a bit distorted most of the time. And the movie was all greyish and it always rains..

  • @xoxSnUgGLeBuNNiExox exactly my thoughts.. Keira looked a bit distorted most of the time. And the movie is all greyish and it always rains..

  • I feel a swoon coming on!!!!!!!! : )

  • no hand holding, no kissing. nothing.

  • @hwolovely1203 ye i know BORING!!!!!!!!

  • @hwolovely1203 yea but the chemistry is hot as fire.

  • Hm, I haven't watched this version yet, only the 2005 one. I loved the 2005 one, just because Matthew McFadyen is more my kind of guy than Colin Firth. I've never thought Colin Firth was attractive, regardless of what role he's playing. But maybe I'll go find the DVD of this one and give it a shot. He definitely won't win out over Matthew for being hot in my eyes, though :D

  • No, the Knightly/Macfadyen version was just... weird. Too contemporary and almost New Age-y. However, Keira was a prettier Elizabeth; this woman looks 35-yrs-old and as if she's wearing waaaaay too much makeup.

  • when he says "dearest, loveliest Elizabeth" my heart goes all warm and fuzzy...

  • The description is leading us on! Jane and Bingley are ALREADY ENGAGED HERE! D8

  • I can relate to both sides, I have seen the 6 hour version and Colin Firth plays a perfect book to book cover of Darcy. McFayden plays a perfect 1 1/2 version of Darcy. This world is big enough for two men to play the same character, and it is also big enough for the true Jane Austin fan and the new one who loves a shorter version. It completely just depends on what mood you are in. There is no right or wrong here.

  • @TreeandJR I totally agree. I LOVE the book and I can enjoy both version of the movie or I guess I should say screen version. The BBC version is truer to the book but it had more time to work with. I think I like the movie better, though, but that may only be because I saw it first so my opinion was swayed.

  • @TreeandJR im so glad someone said this, i enjoy both versions and cant really decide which ones better. i love both mr darcys and it really depends on how much time i have as to which one i watch. everyone immediately puts down the movie but i like it and im glad im not the only one.

  • @TreeandJR exactly my feelings. Well said. And then there are the days you watch one then have to watch the other to fill in the spaces.

  • @TreeandJR I love it that you said that! Most people get into nasty debates about both movies. I am a true Austen fan. I've read the book soooo many times I've lost count and I've watched both versions too. I love both and it truly depends on what mood you're in :D THANK YOU!

  • @TreeandJR you relativist dolt. Firth is right...you are wrong.
