@pengdadeng He had a pair of aces, the other guy had a pair of jacks. Poker hands are ranked in order of card importance. Ace being the best card; Kings, Queens, Jacks , 10's , 9's etc.. decrease in value

@pengdadeng in texas hold em you get to choose 5 cards out of the seven on the board plus what you are dealt to make the best hand, so hellmuths hand was AAKJ8 and Ashby's was JJK86. hope that helps :)

I thought once before I made that comment and Phil is NOT a good player in comparison to most top pros nowadays. He tilts far too much, he ALWAYS wants to make that big hero call and he is dominated against this more "kooky" style of poker which is becoming more and more commonplace every day.

PLUS he won the majority of those bracelets before the big 2004 poker boom when poker play stepped up significantly, sorry about "de-idolising" this man for you.

I never said he was sooooooo bad at playing you fucking fool. He's obviously a good player in the "world of poker" but his game is becoming weaker and weaker as poker evolves. He's got a very old school style of play which is dominated by these online wacky players such as Tom Dwan, Isildor. That style of play is the future of poker and Phil is gonna find it very difficult to play against. I don't give a fuck if you agree or not, but that's my opinion.

Calling preflop against a lineup of passive players that are likely to limp behind is bad. you dont want a 6-way flop when you have aces. Not 3-betting the flop is debatable, but not terrible. Checking behind the turn on such a drawy board, is terrible, you're going to miss a ton of value from draws, and also from worse made hands if the draw does hit on the river. (KJ for example will always call a turnbet but will never call a riverbet if the river comes like the 7h).

Moreover, there is value to be made from draws here (also called protection), and from scared J's who want to pot control.
