I think it's hilarious that a very public figute like Kubrick was considered a virtual hermit by some, so much so that there was that one guy who went around stealing Kubrick's identity in London. That was pre-internet, but still...sheesh.

Amazing to hear how many projects fell through, how many times he tried and got nothing for his efforts, before he finally made it. The 8 films he made after Spartacus, with almost total control over them, are 8 of the best feature films ever made. Only 8, sure, but with years involved in the planning and shooting of each one, it's a huge achievement, when they are all so good and in a few cases, unbeatable masterpieces.

I think Kubrick did that because Bernstein was eventually going to put together an article using bits of the interview transcript and print it in some magazine. That was probably just to guard against potential misspellings in the article.
