  • beautiful!!!

  • THE HUMAN CREATOR SYSTEM.J.7.55

  • Beautiful song: for my Danish/Swedish father 2011: all the best, and Happy New Year: Du er den bedste far nogensinde!

  • Με εκπλήσει αυτό το τραγούδι!

  • A beautiful and creative song about the Gods that Be: here's a shout out to all my fellow rockers 55+ who have loved Tull since the early days: as our life extends, let's go forth in this New Year and tell the younger folks about all the great music we had in our younger days....

  • i have only just got into tull, didnt like them at school in the 70s, but cant get enough of them now, mr anderson only live down the road from swindon x

  • Til valhall vi gå!

  • @yarekhunt awesomesås bror

  • love this song

  • This is not the original Minstrel version. However, I really like this. What's this one from?

  • OMG, who touched Sasha? Alright, WHO TOUCHED MY SWORD?!

  • They should make another "Heavy Metal" movie--with this song,& others from "Broadswords&Beasties" as themes for one of the stories

  • @scrotius2012 Probably would be better than F.A.K.K.2

  • metal as metal.....................only better

  • 666 likes, hate to be 667th

  • Whoah.

  • Meta bolee fee nadoo soma , sedon fehana labany falsteny qawy gdn !

  • 2:26 = Age of Mythology

  • @frederikomr fantastic game

  • Definitely not the original..I've memorized it by heart and soul..but still a decent version and very close to the original..I miss the strings tho. Wow..Ian Anderson and Martin Barre..how can ya go wrong with THAT combo!

  • awesome version wooha

  • Hail WOTAN !!!

  • Love different versions of songs. Zappa did it all the time...

  • bring out the keggs..awsome..

  • cool music of course

but the sound quality sucks here

  • if any of you listen to bad company, don't you think ian and paul rodgers sound similar

  • I'm old school like many others. I'm in the 55+ group. But I won't let my preference fro for studio versions blind me to what is good and true. I just prefer less distraction from music and lyrics that "live" recordings render.

    Tull fan since 1972.

  • @jcdough awesome just like my dad

  • Comment removed

  • @jcdough Agreed, I usually tend to prefer the studio versions as well.

I really liked some of the pictures used for the video. Thanks so much for uploading

  • @jcdough Me Too!!. Carry on.

  • dude, im sorry, but i will rape the replay link!

  • such a legit song... from the best band of all time!

  • Mjolnir give me ya strenght!!!!

  • And ride with us young bonny lass --- with the angels of the night. Crack wind clatter --- flesh rein bite on an out-size unicorn. Rough-shod winging sky blue flight on a cold wind to Valhalla. And join with us please --- Valkyrie maidens cry above the cold wind to Valhalla. Break fast with the gods. Night angels serve with ice-bound majesty. Frozen flaking fish raw nerve --- in a cup of silver liquid fire. Moon jet brave beam split ceiling swerve and light the old Valhalla.

  • this is so awesome..

  • 8 people do not want to join with us please...the valkyrie maidens cry...above the cold winds of valhalla...

  • greatest

  • One of the two best Jethro Tull songs! And Jethro Tull is one of the three best bands there ever was!

  • great...just great............elfsong...

  • not as good as the album cut.

  • greetings from honeir

  • where the pic @0:51 come from?

  • do i hear well is Ian singing and playing the flute at the same time?

my god he must have cloned himself... brilliand as always!!

  • @greasemonkeypol This is Tull playing live in their Monte Carlo studio for a BBC radio program. For the show (which aired a month after this was recorded), Ian recorded his flute segments over the tape. That's why you hear his flute sometimes over his voice. (No he wasn't cloned for this.)

  • Comment removed

  • Απάντηση σε αυτό το βίντεο... ya i know it was just a pun!

thanks for all the info and the great video!

  • @greasemonkeypol its not live record you idiot

  • @mobyseed you wanna hear me fucking your mother live?

  • @greasemonkeypol Martin Barre (the guitar player) also played the flute in some songs.

  • @broadswordbeast thanks good to know

  • @greasemonkeypol No, he's just a legend.

  • This take is from a set of songs for BBC Radio recorded live in Monte Carlo at the mobile studio used for the album. It's all over the net and is called Minstrils In The Red House and if you're a Tull fan you need this more than any other live recording. Yep, this is live in one take. Killer.

  • true power and spirit. this is real magic to me.

  • Thanks for putting this together, I liked the artwork as much as the song.

  • Jethro Tull there is no band to surpass them!! May this music fly for all time!!!!!!

  • Jethro Tull there is no band to surpass them!!

  • Whatever,; It's that strange, strong ART

  • Thanks for comments. Do you know where can I find the original version in youtube ?

    Regards

  • hey man ... the cold wind to Valhalla leads to immortality ... fight all day ,drink all evening and the best of Odin's daughters all night !!!

  • @rjwintl

  • THIS SONG KICKS SO MUCH ASS THAT IT'S NOT EVEN FUNNY

  • Cold and Pure

  • Great song! Original (yes, original)

  • @finselBR I am sure this is a re-mix or re-recording of this song. I was alive when it was released originally. It has some differences, subtle though they may be.

  • @finselBR Not the original I am sure.

  • jethro ROCKS!

  • no mean to argue but I prefer the original (LP)

  • @walkandlookup well I love the string arrangements in the original, however I also like some of the changes that were made

  • @Aqualung1989 it's not from the minstrel in the gallery, this version comes from the "chateau d'isaster" tape recording if i am not mistaken

  • Shines

  • Cold and Quick.

  • ARGH!!!!

  • 5 people won't go to valhalla

  • stupenda

  • you can feel the spirit of the Viking's infused in this song.. brilliant ian

  • I got to see him, Anderson, a few time, at Madison Square Garden when he debuted "Thick As Brick" in the US. They played the entire thing, non-stop, and then most of Aqualung and a few other songs. One of the best shows I ever saw. I also saw him perform "Passion Play", but the best concert was at Westbury Music Fair before they became well know.

  • way better than any folk metal band could ver do

  • Depth and skill. You have to go back to this to find it.

  • Excellent assemblage, Aqualung1989. Thanks, and thanks again.

  • my father's favorite song(and favorite band)

  • sweeeeeeeeeetttt ;)

  • the beginning sounds pretty much like that live version on 20th years, but that one ends with the acustic part.

  • Nice choice of Valhalla cartoon, that one was my favorite as a kid hahah.

  • is the song from the "ministrel in the gallery" album?? doesnt sound like it

  • @the16Hobitt I think it's a remastered version or something like that, the original is slightly different

  • @Aqualung1989 The first, acoustic portion of this particular version is included in the "20 Years Of" 3-CD set.

  • @Aqualung1989 It is. Only a serious Tull fan would know that so cheers!

  • @Aqualung1989 This is the exact song from that album. 1975.

  • @asparrow

A re-recording, this is not the original recording. I know all of Tull's works[ or most]. Any othe Tull experts want to weigh in?

  • @willicat441 This is certainly not the original LP version if that is what you mean?

This is the Minstrel in the Gallery recording. Which had many changes, and sadly lacks the string arrangement in the original.

And I make no claims to being a tull expert btw, not quite old enough yet.

  • @Aqualung1989 Sounds like it. The vocal is slightly different and this version has no orchestral backing. Some of it is certainly recognisable from the original mix though.

  • @Aqualung1989

It sounds clear an clean. In those times equipment was lo- fi and sound was like in a kant.

  • @Aqualung1989 No. This is an alternate take. Either that, or a re-recording for radio. This is pretty close to how they'd sound live at the time, so I bet it's done for radio (a bit a-al BBC recordings that artists had to do back then...). Great version, though. Very heavy and raw once the entire band comes in. I like that! :-)

  • @the16Hobitt Yes.....3rd song on side 2 (if you have the album).

  • @the16Hobitt This is not from the Minstrel In the Gallery album. This was performed LIVE in BBC studios in May 1975 for the show "Sounds on Sundays". RARE IN DEED

  • {this one's called 'Cold Wind to Valhalla'.}

  • Follow the hoofbeats, join the ghastly horde...

  • Studio song like this one the way it was taken just the best for you from Jethro Tull

you will be taken just for your bravery

    Last take

  • awesome song

  • I freaking love the slide show. It fits the music so well.

  • no shit lol, those are pictures of Valhalla... and Asa gods... wise ass

  • @Kuksoman I wasn't being a wise ass. I was just saying good job with the slide show. We can't start a flame war if you want though...fucker. lol

  • .........Valhalla, I am coming!!!!!

  • I like this song I like Jethro Tull , but I am Slavic and I am sure Odin do not care for it at all, ... but I like ABBA too :))))) that could be problem I guess :)

  • @dragophone69 Im not sure if Oden was supposed to be racist.

  • i am a girman, but it dosent sound difrent to how i said id.......

but ian got the better voice ^^

  • Praise Odin

  • Praise Odin!

  • so are you vankers?

  • I like the pictures!

  • Me, too.

  • I´m a german. And we say and write not Vikings or Valhalla, but we mean the same when we speak Walhalla or Wikings. In Regensburg ( Bavaria) is a Walhalla Hall. For Tourist a point to know a lot of the history about the Germans and the Wikings.

  • Walhalla means a hall where are the fighters lay down, who fallen in wars! That was only happens by wikings. or german fighters in a lot of wars. In Regensburg (Germany) is a Hall only for fighters of this legend. That wrote a german. Translation no problem. But the Angle and the Sachsen, who live now on this island England, have roots inGermany. Thats History. A lot of words up to day are the same.

  • u spell Valhalla and Vikings... wtf is with ur ''w''?!

  • It's just how the German language works. I don't know the specifics, but replace 'Vs' with 'Ws' :)

  • no, its Valhalla... and Vikings...

the Nordic folk had specific V not W in language and pronouncing

  • Germans pronounce Vs in the start of words like "F", and W like V.

  • Who cares how the Germans spell Valhalla and Vikings?

  • you're right, they should listen to the music.

  • Ian Anderson's poetic voice soothes the soul

  • my fav TULL song :)))

  • Good vid Dude - thanks for posting.

  • Walhalla sind Worte die im Deutschen gebraucht wurden und bei einigen Feuerfesten noch gefeiert werde.

  • Wow!! I had heard the name of Jethro Tull before tonight, but had never gotten around to actually checking him out. A lucky search found this wonderful song - the man is pure genius, and a splendid entertainer, singer, song-writer and story teller. Your video rocks, too - thanks a lot!!!

  • The band is named after Jethro Tull, an 18th century inventor. The name of the genius is Ian Anderson. But yea this stuff rocks!!

  • Jethro Tull is not the name of the singer, it is the name of the band.. The singer's name is Ian Anderson. He sings, he writes lyrics, plays flute and guitar

  • @HolyMotherofGrid A true bard, isn't he? :)

  • @HolyMotherofGrid

the band is calles jethro tull the man is ian anderson

  • @HolyMotherofGrid Haha, Jethro Tull is not a "him", besides the 18th century agriculturalist, Ian Andersen is the frontman, its a band with one weird name.

  • @HolyMotherofGrid no offence but Jethro Tull is the bands name, the singer/flautist and principle song writer is Ian Anderson. Enjoy! :)

  • @HolyMotherofGrid The same for me, I've found this song tonight (being showed Minstrel in the Gallery yesterday) and it completely drew me... I'm really into progressive rock from 70. (Focus, King Crimson, and so on) but this guys are absolutely amazing! I've still got my jaw dropped although I've been listening to this song for about half an hour.

  • @HolyMotherofGrid Jethro Tull is the name of the band. The lead singer is singer/flutist Ian Anderson

  • @HolyMotherofGrid You have no idea--keep listening....

  • @HolyMotherofGrid it's the name of the band, the flautist and vocalist is Ian Anderson

  • @HolyMotherofGrid Please be aware that Jethro Tull is the name of the BAND. IMHO, the best band in the world.

Ian Anderson is the genius of Jethro Tull as its front man, song writer and flautist. Jethro Tull did live once, in the 1600s. He was a British agriculturalist who invented the seed drill. It is his name that gives Jethro Tull its English folk flavor, along with the music of the band.

  • @HolyMotherofGrid

Well, actually Jethro Tull is an agronomist from the 17th century, the band just took his name. The genius, singer, song-writer, etc., is Ian Anderson (with help of his great partners, of course, 'cause they're genius too!).

This is just for telling you, not for offending you, because I'm really glad to hear that another person has discovered this wonderful band and appreciates it. WELCOME!

  • @MsPocketMonsters I stand corrected.. and a bit red-faced!! Somehow my education both formal and otherwise, seems to have skipped over Mr. Tull and his important contributions to European agriculture. The band sure is a wonderful contribution to music in general, and i am still completely amazed that although they've sold over 60 million albums, i somehow managed to miss them for 42 years.....

  • @HolyMotherofGrid Its and band! not a person!!! The lead singer is called Ian Anderson. Sorry but it really annoys me when people make that mistake.

  • @MKECBS1 lol.... my bad!!! I have had many people point out this faux-pas, so i am by now quite chastised and much better educated :-=). I've also acquainted myself somewhat better with this awesome group's quite extensive artistic output. They deserve to be as famous as Emerson Lake and Palmer.. but somehow just aren't :P.

  • great song!

  • Grandissimi Jethro Tull!

  • Where did you find the picture at 3:21 - 3:35?

  • nyllebryn, I think I found everything in google images, looking for "valhalla" :P

  • Kk, I Checked google yesterday but I found almost every picture except that one, hehe. But I will look agian. Thanks for a nice upload.

  • @Aqualung1989 Check out "The Raven" by The Stranglers for another Viking themed song. JJ is a God of the Bass !

  • This is the remixed version from the 25th Anniversary box set of Jethro Tull.

Disc 1 - Remixed classic tracks. Lots of other fine remixes as well.

It's available a bit torrent sites for those interested. Or, in store.

  • this track is like a studio version, with a few over dubs missing.

minstrel and to old are the best stuff to get into if you dig jazzy/fuckin hard guitar runs from them.

im just a baker street muse(mews).

    quality.

  • what a neat, midieval looking slideshow

  • Sounds like a different version from the album. But hearing this song on a LP with a decent hi-fi stackup is anyway a different story from hearing it on youtube.

Strangely JT quality of sound fits perfect with my Rega speakers. Maybe there's a connection there...

  • Definitely different from the original album version in the guitar and flute leads. Sounds like the same vocal though...

  • to kulumuli, cree8vision and yz25098uk... I think this is the 25th anniversary box version... the songs there have normally very slight changes compared to the "originals", but in this song the changes are bigger.

  • heehee barbarian guy at 1:10 looks like Ian Anderson

  • It must be Sir Gawayn or Beowulf.

    :-)

  • This is a great song, thanks for sharing.

  • i just got the minsteral in the gallery today, i really like this song. very folk influssenced like tulls earler works. very, very nice. nothing else to say

  • Awesomeness!

  • What dickweed hater is giving my comment thumbs down?! Must be a serious loser!

    I say it again, Awesomness!!!

  • brilliant... what else can you say?

  • Jethro Tull shaped my youth in my teens in 70s, I love Ian's voice, flute and his acoustic guitar style

  • I was born in 1960 and was also a teen in the 70's...I love his voice, flute and acoustic guitar style, too...in my high school yearbook I mentioned J-Tull as one of my favorites - (I was sincere but) I had really only heard very little J-Tull...now 30+ yrs later I have finally got around to exposing myself to more J-Tull (NOTE: I've been a born-again believer since 1983, and I'm careful about lyrical content, etc.)...it's like a J-Tull seed planted in me has finally come to fruition

  • im a spiritual guy myself davss and i mean absolutely no offense by what im about to say and that's: i think the lord smiles down upon the boys of jethro tull. music after all is a God given talent. :)

  • MR. ANDERSON YEPPPPPPPP

  • In the halls of Valhalla where the brave, they live forever...

    Oh yeah! Longlive Tull...

  • Jethro Tull was great because they had that Medieval edge to their music, which was really different and cool. At least, that's why I like them so much. One of the greatest bands ever!

  • Ah, they never disappoint.

  • Hey love this track ,thanks so much man. must admit it sounds like vinyl as it has that bassy boomb to it . Love the other Tull tracks aswell. Saw them in concert twice once at Isle of Wight1970 and in Brighton1996 Ian is still brilliant. He made a joke at the interval about now he is older it takes him 20 mins to finish a pint !

  • This sounds like the rest of the cut of this song as published on "20 Years Of Jethro Tull - The Definitive Collection" - on the album it fades with 'breakfast with the gods..." .... Where did You get it????!!!!

  • I just told my cousin to download "cold wind to valhalla" for me, and this is what he sent me... some months later, I bought the CD, and I realised this is a different version... and I think I prefer this one than the original. What do you think?

  • this is one of my favourite song.

  • This sounds like a live recording. Sort of.

  • All their songs are live recordings, Baker St. Muse anyone?
