It takes a good tune, lots of rehearsal, and a lot of knocking down doors to get a label to pay attention to your tunes. In the 80's a lot of coked up producers in "expensive" studios would gouge decent groups for $10,000.00 a master and chuck the line that they would get your tunes to an A&R person.

Groups like Outfield had decent agents, who schmoozed the right people, got gigs and set up record label meetings. It also helped to have label promoters to front the FM radio demos to D.J's!!!
