  • @123doomdoom I live in surrey too!

  • heh interesting ed i wonder if my dad still has my PS3 receipt

  • nice STRIDER!!!.

  • Dude...I live In Surrey Vancouver. BC has some of the best game reviewers, like you and HCG.

  • use to be a store called Compucentre, that store was really expensive bought the game for 80 or 90 bucks (SMB2)

  • what an asshole!

  • console said wrong 2:38

he says it like council is this because hes canadian???

  • Your mom must have been loaded.

  • Compucenter!

For some reason I was HOOKED on Half-Life 16 months before its release, and went to Compucenter EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND until its November '98 release. Collected and saved every single scrap of info on it.

Little did I know how big it would turn out. Used to e-mail Gabe Newell as well; nice guy, replied to EVERY SINGLE ONE of my e-mails each week 'til '99.

  • I'm hooked!

  • I thought the $60 for Snow Bros on the NES and $70 for Street Fighter II on SNES was a crazy amount to pay for entertainment as a kid, but $95 for a SNES cart is insane! I hope you still own the box and everything.

  • @MPK112233 depends if they had battery back-up in them. thats why genesis games were cheaper than snes games because genesis games did not have battery back-up

  • Are you sure the Game Boy receipt was from the US? That was a Zellers receipt, and I don't think we have them here in the US. $50.00 brand new though? Geez, I guess the lowest price really IS the law at Zellers!

  • Oh and I hate how many of the newer receipts (1998 and on) are printed on thermal paper. I was shocked to see most of them are not just blank pieces of paper. I guess I should start scanning those!

  • Cool video man. And I thought I was the only one who saved stuff like this. :P

I put all of my game receipts in a binder. It's crazy how much the old stuff cost. So many people complain about today's prices, but they are actually cheaper now if you think about it. Zaxxon for the Colecovision $69.99, Shadows of the Empire (N64) $89.99! I'm not even going to mention what I paid for my Neo-Geo carts... Ahh the good old days. :P

  • OMG, I was thinking strangely about showcasing my video game sale receipts dated from 1987 to the present day ( some are also missing ). But you actually did it - lol I have them all in rubberbands and tucked away. Its kinda a nostalgia thing for us ^_^ I'll have to do a clip for all to see sometime.

  • Heh, my birthday is dec. 21...i was 7 when she bought that....hadn't even heard of TG16 at that age, i was still enjoying my NES and waiting on the SNES to come out

  • Games were expensive back then!!!

  • It is absolutly astonishing what they charged for video games back in the day. $80 for a Turbo Graphix 16 game!? Wow... I also rememner when games for the SNES first came out like Street Fighter 2 and they were between $89-99 for a single game!!

And hey, we're from BC as well!

  • i payed 130 for sega genesis games like 1990ish

    phantasy star 3

  • How old are you man? You look young for a guy who was teen in the early 90's late 80's.

  • this is the first video of yours ive ever watched. its pretty good/interesting lol

  • cool arm tatoo man

  • I hope she changed her credit card number since then cause now we all have it along with her last name.....odds are its been changed though.....

  • The only orginal gam i've ever had was rented.... what a shame

  • cool!! Go Eds mum! :)

  • My aunt back in the day, purchased a lot of NES games because they went on sale back in the early 90's.

  • How much was the SEGA Genesis?

  • aw man, retro that was awesome! video game nostalgia is never bad. i still have some of the Toys R Us Big Toy Book ad catalogs. can you believe SNES games used to be like 50 and 60 bucks back in the day?! and PSX used to be like $399.99?! man...this vid makes me recall one of the last new SNES games i got at R' Us. I think I paid (well rents) like 60 bucks for Super Mario RPG. Can't believe NES games were even more expensive even before that. Wonder how much my NES Mario 2 was?

  • Dude that's awesome that you still have these receipts. It interesting to see how much things were back in the day. Cool vid Ed. If you consider games today are around the same price as they were back in the day it's pretty cool.

  • Very interesting I haven't seen another video like this anywhere. Brings back some memories of how much stuff cost back in the day. You were pretty smart to get the super nes in Oregon you didn't have to pay sales tax.

  • Wow, your mum seems like the kind of person that never throws away anything.Kinda like mine.

Maybe she gave you all that to hint that she wants you to pay her back now lol...

Findlay...hmm kinda like the wrestler Finlay.

  • Hmm. James got owned. Keep up the good work Retrogamer3, funny as hell haha.

  • Damn man. Us poor folks only had one system growing up :)

  • Do you know a Craig Findlay ?

  • so your name is Edward Findlay?

  • this was awesome i wish i had all my receipts AND the game boxes or instruction manual(or both) :D

  • that was awesome!!

  • My mom BURN all my receipts (crying now)......

  • AHH THE MEMORIES

  • nice great vieo man :D

  • your mom sure love you

  • Damn i wish my mum kept all the receipts =O

  • wow, cool stuff. I forgot how expensive those games were. I wish my parents would have kept the receipts for all the crap I used to have.

  • awesome!

  • You got some kickass stuff back in the day, didn't you? Good video man, your mum must be awesome.

  • WOW! Very cool! :-D

  • Hehe, I remember my receipt for my very first bottle of Ovaltine. :)

  • great vid!

  • why are all the receipts so big??

  • lol i remember most the games i got but sold most of them >_> wish i still had the receipts

  • that was from famcom games remember those Ed?

  • LOL I had to come back and watch this again it kicked sooo much ass! 7th Saga for 108 buck sounds right eh? I remember my GF at the time called me from the mall to tell me she saw this game 7th Saga and did I want it. lol yes!

  • My friend found a credit card in a 711 parking lot. We went shoping the next day down in Nanaimo and with it he bought 2 Super Nintendo sets, one for me and one for him, the deluxe one with 2 controlers and super mario world. Nothing beats free! He never got busted either. They loked at him a little weird when he slaped 2 Snes on the counter.

  • holy crap...you had a really nice childhood

  • LOL I loved this vid man. Keep up the good work

  • I bought a TON of consoles/games back in the 80/90s. I am probably slightly older than you are, as I am the one who bought most of the stuff (your parents are indeed generous). I am glad I didn't keep all the receipts. I would probably be crying right now :)

  • wow u musta been a rich lil kid...i never got any thing cuz our family was poor

  • SEGA!

  • damn ure rich lol

  • I loved this video. It's crazy how these things add up... but totally worth it!

  • what a great idea for a video! I could only imagine the pile of receipts I would have if all of them were kept til this day....that would be so much fun to look back on!

  • what a great review i loved it

  • Dude, you have a cool mom!

  • nice bionic commando rearmed music

  • u paid? u mean ur mom paid it =)

  • Haha, holy shit dude, that's awesome that you have those receipts. Also, your mom kicks ass for supporting your show!

  • So much money spend on videogames for a kid in only four years? You must have been pretty spoiled as a kid... Your mom seems pretty cool, for saving those receipts!.

  • are these going in the display? i think at least one would look good in the background

  • haha I loved this episode! Strider WOW! LOL

  • lol wow splatterhouse at 79.99!

  • Awesome video! I hope that credit card isn't still being used :P.

  • God, those games back then were soooo expensive! Even more than today. I never thought about keeping receipts, but after watching this, i think I will from now on :)

  • That's really cool, I had a sealed NES action set sealed in the baggies along with the original receipt, it's in one of my videos.

  • This is such an awesome video. Thank you! I can't believe anyone paid that much for carts back then! The most my mom ever spent (or let me spend) was $50. That is why I didn't like the SNES, the stuff was so overpriced.

  • Wow thats crazy that she kept them. Love it!

  • nice :P just like james

  • Haha that's pretty cool. I didn't realize the games alone were that much new.

  • Your mom probably did that to show you that no matter how expensive you got, you were worth it to her. There's no love greater than a mother's love.

  • Awesome vid dude. Those are keepers. Brought back so many memories. 5 stars.

  • I found Mortal Kombat II in an old box the other day, and when I opened the case it stillh ad handwritten notes from my dad inside, detailing characters movesets. I thought it was kinda interesting

  • haha the first seeing the video:P

  • imagine what they would say if you tried to return it lol

  • yea

  • Wow that is very interesting! I bet that brought back some great ol memories :D Very funny how things have changed in price :)
