Why would you have to start with foil? Our school starts with epee. Hell, we only fence epee, but our maitre used to be a sabreur. What does it matter?

i think because foil can relate most w/ the 2 other kinds of weapon.

Sabre - Right of way and targets (and its hard to use foil and epee point when your only used in using sabre)

Epee - move are very similar to foil

imo, i don't use epee so i'm not sure, but i think foil is best when it comes to tactics and strategy

We gotta find some way of bringing fencing to the knowledge of the american public. for 6 years people asked me if i did a sport, when i tell them fencing, they have no idea what it is. and when they finally get the jist of my explanation, their first thoughts go to zorro and that weird flashy/sloppy method of fighting
