we have an outside theater called "The Muny" in Saint Louis and they are doing this musical! This song is even more beautiful in its entirety, its a quartet with Ariel, Eric, Sebastian, and Triton. Beautiful song and great show!

@miulfelle This wasn't in the Broadway show. It was actually part of an early version that was performed at some kind of Broadway convention. Sierra Boggess did originate the role on Broadway, but for this early performance, Kerry Butler sang Ariel.

It's pretty close to what actually ended up in the show (I bought the Official Soundtrack), except for Eric's speaking parts. And several of the lyrics were changed... but it's still so pretty! I'm really glad that Alan Menken came back to do the music for the new songs in the show.

They don't know how to write, becuase paper falls apart under water. They USED to have paper, when it was MAGIC paper created by the sea witch, and when Ariel was little her father taught her to write her name for legal reasons, but then Ursula was banished they didn't have magic paper anymore, and so he never bothered tutoring her in how to write.

This is Kerry Butler, this was done in a workshop to see how the show would run script and music wise, I believe. Sierra took over the role of Ariel once the show was finalized and revisions were made.

personally i think that this version is so much better then the one that is out right now. i find these lyrics so much more enchanting. i think it really shows the emotion in whats going on rather then focus on getting your point across in a story. though, yes, some of the lyrics are the same i just love this version.

It's from the Broadway version, so it should be on that soundtrack, but.. if it's not, then I'm not sure.

Of course, this isn't the final- this is the demo before the play actually hit Broadway, so the soundtrack would have a different version.

I saw it in NYC, its disney they did it perfectly, if you see it you will understand, the music has changed some from this piece. It is the perfect show to take your daughter but my husband also liked it and they didn't go overboard to bring it to the stage. Simple and perfect.. remember broadway is about the story and the music..
