Well, we feel like it's a personal loss because these characters come into our homes, often times we're watching these shows with others we care about (some who may also no longer be with us). So there's a level of intimacy, sure.

And in the case of "The Golden Girls," oft times it was kids watching with mothers or grandmothers, so that makes us think of them too. The same thing may happen with kids who enjoyed "Archie Bunker" or Jackie Gleason with their dads..
