Why do people compare Evanescence with WT?

Seriously, I'm a huge Ev fan and I like WT also. I do not see the similarity at all. Maybe the only thing they have in common is the female singer.

I just cant imagine WT feeling great about themselves when their videos are plagued with people saying that another band which has no real similarities is better than theirs. Just shut up and enjoy the music.

Why the fuck are people so bothered about the genres of music. To me there are only two, good and bad, and that varies from person to person, so seriously, you don't judge music by what is writen on paper (whether it is opera rock or symphonic rock), you judge it by the band/artist and the song and nothing else, because nothing else is relavent.

Very true on Epica and Tarja. Nightwish was great before and after Tarja was part of them. Dawn from Fireflight is also good. Sever from Sumo Cyco. There are just too many to list to say who is good while we focus on music (IE scroll back up and listen to music).

The chorus of this song reminds me a lot of the chorus here: watch?v=MJDDxHIaaVk I know its a coincidence, but its funny how that works out sometimes. And they both even have kind of the same meaning behind them (to not give up at a low point in your life). WT sounds similar to Evanescence or Lacuna Coil (and I love all three), but WT in itself is unique music. Listen to the "Mother Earth" album while driving in snow. Its really an experience.

But you can clearly tell the women in this video is fallowing the path set by this mysterious necklace. Evanescence's video was about her dreaming. Again only similarity is the rain. Not to mention the message is the same, in Stand my ground the message is clear standing tall in the face of what is to come. And in Evanescence's video its about waiting for someone to save you

Again I did mention in my comment the "Rain" sequence ergo the background was included in that statement. I did however miss type when I mentioned the imagery behind both videos. One girl falls from the skyscraper (Evanescence) the other doesn't dangle in midair. I'm still very confused on how you can compare both videos, aside from the background. The message from both videos is completely different which is why I am confused.

I couldn't agree more! And what makes the comparisons REALLY stupid is just the fact that the two have a similar LOOK to them, while they are very different in terms of the way they sound. It's just like how people like to compare Slipknot and Mushroomhead, just because both bands wear masks, and yet they don't SOUND anything alike. And not to mention the GWAR and Lordi comparisons, just because of the similaries with their costumes.

You, Sir, are *way* off. They are both lyrically and musically talented bands headed by powerhouse female vocalists, their styles are nearly identical with Within Temptation heading into a slightly more Gothic direction and Evanescence gearing towards an Industrial sound. They're very similar, and both ironically were popularized by headlining songs from two awful movies ("Daredevil" and "Blood and Chocolate").
