I am not a fan AT ALL of instrumental guitar playing. That being said, I love Joe Satriani. I find he is the only one with any taste. None of the others can touch his taste, style, and dynamics. you can also find a modesty in his playing, that I love.

@tonewall1 I don't claim to be as good as or better than this drummer. I should not have been so harsh.  When you listen to this fresh, it sounds fine. The bassist and the drummer's groove patterns are weaving in and out of sync and the drummer may not be at fault. I was studying some heavy groove stuff really in depth before playing this and all of those little problems stuck out. It just goes to show how the mind works and how relative everything else. Great Drummer, really!

This drummer is making me mad! It's bad when the drummer has the worst groove in the band. Cool #9 is only cool because of the groove. Cool #9 ain't cool when the groove ain't happenin'. There I said it! Manu was great on the CD and I'm imagining Steve Jordan playing this now. Feeling better already. Bass playing was up to snuff and Joe's playing is near perfect as usual.

@loislombardo This drummer is a fine player... very good. That's what frustrates me. To be close to perfection and to screw it up making the classic drummer newbie mistake, lack of focus on groove. The groove is ultra shaky in the beginning with the hi-hat 5-stroke rolls trumping timing. If I were producing this, I would have thrown a shoe at the hi-hat in rehearsal. The bass player, in contrast to the drummer, is demonstrating a serious commitment to the groove. Great drummer, unfocused.

@jmclen7 I respectfully disagree, ,the drummer is ultimately THE timekeeper-especially when he's the only one with the click track in his mix. Groove is an elusive group concept that only happens between certain beats and frankly I think i'd say Joe was the culprit in this instance. Maybe his guitar was too loud in his mix. or perhaps he just was hearing "1" differently than the other guys. It happens, even to the best.

with a big amp, a low gain distortion and a very diffrent guitar. if you ever played with a ibanez js you'd know that it's only for this purpose.

they forget that the more powerfull, less they need the support of the wood, and that changes completely the sound of the guitar! and that's great, for who wants to play heavy metal!

if you want to sound like JS, buy a medium output pickups, pick a low tune kind of wood, more like basswood or mohogany, a low gain pedal like boss ds-1, and some efects!
