  • OMG, which islands are those shown at 0:02 secs?

  • Bet God borrowed John Lennon's iPod cause this was on it.

  • Can't find lyrics to this anywhere - does anyone have any clue where I might find them?

  • isn't she beautiful... she and her music

  • John is listening and is in awe as all of us people here on earth are

  • Hàllo, a h-uile duine!

I know it's been asked many times, but does anyone have her Gàidhlig lyrics for this?

I'm thinking of getting some of the lyrics as my Gàidhlig tattoo!

It combines my love for the Beatles and Gàidhlig, plus this was the first Gàidhlig song I ever heard.

    Tapadh leibh!

  • This is such a beautiful rendition. Julie places such life into an already timeless and priceless classic. Thanks for sharing this.

  • best cover ive ever heard

  • Tears in my eyes, so beautiful!

  • I'm sure Paul has it.... becuase he wrote it....

  • Beautiful rednition of a beautiful song.

  • Beautiful... If I didn't know the lyrics by heart, I wouldn't understand a word, but I'm working on that, and it doesn't detract from her awesome voice :)

Does anyone know where I can find Scottish Irish language sources? I have the Rosetta Stone software for Irish Gaelic, but I'd rather learn the Scottish dialect, if possible.

  • @talanhawke Hi there, just to let you know that they are in fact two different languages. I'm a fluent Scottish Gaelic speaker, but I'm trying to learn Gaeilge at the moment. Scottish Gaelic came from the Old Irish, but then it changed into it's own language, not just a dialect. However, here are some web addresses to help...

  • Yes, Julie sings it so beautifully. Here's a version I wrote in Irish. Hope you like it. LON DUBH Lon dubh a’ seinm i gciúin na hoích’ Tóg do sciatháin bhriste is éirigh suas Fad do shaoil Tá tú a’ feitheamh leis an uair go mbeifeá saor Lon dubh a’ seinm i gciúin na hoích’ Tóg na súile dubh’ is breathnaigh síos Fad do shaoil Tá tú a’ feitheamh leis an uair go mbeifeá saor Lon dubh scaoil, lon dubh scaoil Isteach i solas dubh na hoích’
  • I hope that John Lennon is hearing this wherever he is..

  • @josephonwhidbey Why John? This song was written by Paul, and as he is still around, he has probably heard it.

  • Not a Beatles fan, but who could possibly dislike this? The two that hit 'dislike' were obviously cracked.

  • I came across Julie Fowlis on a free CD from Uncut Magazine. It was for the white album 40th anniversary tribute with covers of all the songs and this version Of Blackbird sung in gaelic complete blows me away.....its gorgous! Dont understand Gaelic....but simply lovely. TK

  • I dont speak or understand Gaelic, but still absolutely fabulous. Thanks.

  • wow this is really beautiful :)

  • Tha e brèagha, nach eil?

Every so often a person like julie comes by and reminds me that the World isn't just a big ball of shite spinning in space. Who could look at Julie's smile at 0:15 and not feel as if someone just wrapped them in a soft, warm blanket? I think this overflows into her music too. Thanks for sharing this video.

  • @Gurn42

Nicely put. I like that she bookends this with a similar smile at 2:39-40. She's an engaging performer live and on video,.

  • Julie... I never liked this song till I saw this vid. You make this song sound great.

  • A thing of beauty,is beyond compare.

  • she needs to come to Halifax and soon!

  • ar fheabhas!!!

  • lon ag canadh i mhairbh an oiche, tóg na sciathán briste is eirí suas, gach do saol, bhí tú ag fanacht i gcónaí nóméad chun cinn. i think

  • Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly

Into the light of the dark black night.

    Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly

Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night

Take these broken wings and learn to fly

    All your life

You were only waiting for this moment to arise,

You were only waiting for this moment to arise,

You were only waiting for this moment to arise

  • Blackbird singing in the dead of night

Take these broken wings and learn to fly

    All your life

You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Black bird singing in the dead of night

Take these sunken eyes and learn to see

    all your life

you were only waiting for this moment to be free

  • Very beautifull song! It's so pitiful to me that I can't understan the song!

  • I could listen to her voice all day. Flawless.

  • Relaja hasta el alma..

  • totalmente de acuerdo, es la mejor medicina, lo bueno es q te la puedes tomar siempre q quieras.

  • cuidado con una sobredosis :D

  • Beautiful

  • Perhaps the best version of this song ever... agus anns a'Ghaidhlig cuideachd!

    'S toigh leam e!

  • go h-an maith, is maith liom é sin ar fad. go raibh maith agat.

    Mise Barra

  • I think that's the first time I've ever hear Julie Fowlis sing in english.

    Fantastic as always.

    Moran taing, a Julie.

  • Wow! She doesn't sing in English as I heared.

  • Absolutely beautiful. I'm stuck for words.

  • Julie's awesome. Everything she touches turns to gold. :)

This is simply delightful. Thanks for putting it up!

  • A bheil duine ann gu bheil fhios aig air na faclan? Chan eil mo Ghàidhlig mhath gu leor a bhith gan tuigsinn.

Is there anyone who knows the lyrics? My Gaelic is not good enough to understand them.
