  • Thanks for the video.

That being said would have been a much better video without your big hand blocking the view of what the purpose of the video was intended to show.

Kind of like hiring DeNiro and then shooting the back of his head only.

  • I resolved this issue to my satisfaction without even having to open dad's dead dv9817cl. I just threw the laptop under my rear tire and did a nasty burnout on it. Next, every time I'm in a store that sells HP products, I bang the hell out of the keyboards and rack the printhead carriers on the Crapjet printers (ref. Photosmart 2610 Win 7 64 bit driver issue). If they give me any lip, I just ask them if they've ever seen a rental truck full of fertilizer & diesel fuel crash a front door. N/P

  • easier solution ( just not sure how long it might last because just did it this past weekend ). strip the mobo take pics if needed , put it on a foil lined cookie sheet pre heat oven to 400 degrees and bake yes i said bake for 8 minutes , then turn off the oven and let sit over night ( do it at night when ppl are asleep and check to see if yours runs hot or cold ) .mine works fin no problems i also added thermal past and copper to the chip as well and am using cooling doc :D

  • can i use a hair blower lol ?

  • i just bought a new mother board on ebay for like 40 bucks...

  • If it works and lasts then it's not a bad repair ;)

I was going to buy a heatgun but they were charging me $200 so it wasn't worth the repair and I don't know any repair store that does computers.

Anyways I'll be checking online for cheap heatguns and meanwhile do a temporary fix with a regular incandescent lightbulb (any wattage) wich by the way heats almost at the exact temperature I need (according to wikipedia).

  • Don't believe false letdowners: just tried it myself and i am here to attest and ascertain: it works marvelously, as showed. It seems HP really lies to you all, and all those preconizing solely 'professional' job are but DIY killers and social phishers. Many thanks for this video, Mr. Uploader. Much appreciated, and i'm not the only one that is going to say that, for sure.

  • This is an true example of bad repair. :D

  • It worked on mine. It's been 2 months now, no blank screen Yo. :DDD

  • Eu consertei o meu Dv9000 colocando no forno por 20min a 300 graus celsius :D

  • @ZXTVYT

Tambem coloquei o cobrezinho...

  • When reflowing solder on a board you should NOT pick it up or move it! This can cause components to fall of or move causing more problems than you started with.

  • I hope that most of you who stumble upon this video are smart enough to know that this is not a smart idea. It temporarily expands the bga spheres - that's it.

If you don't have an intimate knowledge of BGA rework, then don't pretend to. Leave it to technicians that know what they're doing. There is no way you will

get a quality repair by going over a board with a heat gun or a hair dryer.

Some of you will believe this nonsense posted on youtube, the rest of you are

    smarter than that.

  • @precisiondivisionfla I repair Ps3 and Xbox 360 gpu / cpu's with a hot air reflow station and the repair is long lasting if done correctly.

  • @precisiondivisionfla I have reflowed about 20 HP dv 2000 and 9000 , like 30 xbox's with this method.. none have failed.

make sure to use copper and good thermal compound on the chips after

  • @Sensfan613

I find that very hard to believe. The procedure is crude and uncontrolled. You are not removing the BGA glue - so you obviously are not reflowing the joints. And if you are - you risk bridging them because the chip cannot move freely. This is not a quality repair - this is absolute garbage. I'm not trying to convince you. And the smart people don't need me to tell them this - they already know this isn't how you fix motherboards.

  • lol you are cute.. buddy, this is a decent fix. and it works everytime..

  • võll_geìl_gebt_mâl_beì_gÔÓglê:_geldeasy_éIñ_vÔll_kráss

  • mine is dv2670en no boot also...

  • Regardless of what you may have read, this is what happens when a major fortune 500 company saves 33 cents per momentherboard. All thanks to some asshole pencil neck engineer that makes less than trash man. Dig around for production numbers for the complete DV line. MORE THAN 75% WERE BAD RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX! Then you return laptop to a Mexican repair facility where unskilled laborers put same bad part back in unit, NOT TEST IT and return it to you. Never buy anything HP.

  • Hey guys! if this video didnt help you fix your broken laptop and you are considering cutting you losses you should sell it through REMOTE LISTER! its fast and easy and you will get more money for your broken or unwanted laptop!! click our channel! go to remotelister . com

  • Try a copper shim and lower your gpu temps. Only $5 and includes thermal paste. Search for "dv6000 copper shim" on ebay.

  • i have a DV6426 i was using it fine ... i didn't use it for 2 days . in the morning i went to us it but it wont switch on.. no light no sound NOTHING. the only lights i see is that of the charger, anyone had the same problem pls .. thanks

  • anyone can post a video on how to remove and install nvidia GPU on hP dV series?...

  • GREENBERET88X: Thanks for the tutorial, ¿Do you think could this work even when video chip has been overheated by 3 times by covering it with a towel by 1 or 2 hours, to re-sold it to the Mother Board? My HpTx1000 doesn't show any image from the last re-solding operation.

  • Also works on compaq f700. done one today with a heatgun. For the sake of trying and saving money on either replaceing the board or professional repair, its worth a try.

  • Also works on compaq f700. done one today with a heatgun.

  • Is there a class action suit out there I can join?

  • @Albacorewing Yes, there was a class action at nvidiasettlement (dot) com

  • if HP are fixing laptops with hair dryers they are fucked in the head.

  • This is the kind of video that makes everybody look bad.

Hair dryers, cigarette lighters, loose change and black magic will not fix your motherboard.

This silly trick temporarily expands the bga spheres - restoring contact - until you use the computer and it heats up and dies again.

Very poorly made, very misleading video.

There's a very good Q & A at PrecisionDivision . com that explains this issue in detail.

If you're a shop - and you're doing work like this - you should stop.

  • Great video, works a charm. Repaired a few laptops with the Nvida chip problem using this video. If you live in Manchester UK and you have the Nvida chip problem get a quote from me.

  • im going to try this tonight,!!!!

whats the name of the song?

  • Install a copper shim to lower your gpu temps 15%. Only $5 and comes with thermal paste free. Search for "DV2000 Copper Shim" on ebay.

  • Don't try!

    Your board will be die.

if you stand board chip will be disconnect. electic part hate heat.

Ask uploader video guy. Are you still working?

    I found different soultion.

  • lol...I took off the ram cover..that is where the chip is located in the dv6000! used a hair dyer for 1min press on the chip.....Worked perfect!

bought this dv6000 dead for 50 bucks! fixed it in 2mins!

  • Works!

tried it with my dv2000 and the screen is back! I just have few spare screws left :P

Be careful with temperature, not to melt the plastic components.

  • HP stinks. I don´t understand how can they stay in market. I bought a Toshiba Satelllte instead, and is really good (I miss my old IBM)

  • Hy

I have a bad news about it!This solution do not work(just about 30days until)

The issue is on the VGA chip. The definitive solution is the VGA chip change!!!

(Geforce 6000-7000-8000 series and if have the northbridge then it too…northbridge is a shared memory VGA )

This video is a scam because the reflow is not solution!!!

  • @albi19710707 Yes, I can't say this enough. No reball or reflow will fix this. NEW chip is the only solution! All Nvidia chips are junk, 5, 6, 7, 8 and even some 9000 series too :(

  • this video sucks

How bout one on how to watch paint dry

  • Rotz, das ist sinnlose Arbeit

  • DV2500 , aka DV2000 AKA DV2845SE

An extended warranty was put is place for some models , although my DV2500 was not on the very limited list . , it is the same issue . HP are trying to cop out . there are thousands of users that are unhappy as all have the same issue , bad design .

    my serial number is 2ce8124453

    DV2845se .

    no boot no post .

any ideas , hp support bouncers said your not on the list .

  • I also have a DV2845se with the Black screen / No Boot problem. Time to dig out the tiny screw drivers!

  • Looks like that heat gun is dancing in a nite club with that music. HP suck and I for one will steal another Lap Top to replace my faulty one. HP stole my money, an eye for an eye...

  • here is what i did to my HP dv2000 se (had Multiple screens and was beeping on start-up it was stuffed) .. I wraped it up in a towel with it turned on to try any get it to catch fire, because HP would have to take it back if it caught fire and burnt my leg....... anyway it never did catch fire it just got insanely hot..... after i gave up trying to burn the fucker I disconnected the power and left it a couple of hours to cool.... I then turned it on And ITS BEEN PERFECT EVER SINCE.............

  • NOT THE WHOLE BOARD!

  • mattbrad2 is right - what the 7ell are ya' doing? It's ONE chip! LOL nyte_shade!

  • HP SHOULD RECALL ALL DV200O SERIES AND REPLACE IT TO A BETTER MODEL WORLD WIDE WITHOUT ANY CONDITION. IT IS VERY UNFAIR TO US AS A CUSTOMER TO HAVE THIS KIND OF PROBLEM. HP MUST REALIZED THAT IF WE WILL NO LONGER SUPPORT THEM, HP COMPANY WILL GO DOWN. " THEY MUST DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM". WE MUST FORCE HP TO DO THIS!

  • I recommand professional reflow, we has correct tempreture control with infrared reflow station. You may damage the motherboard if you over heat it. We also has a custom made oversize heatsink which run cooler and consume less power. Just receive some refurbish TX2 and TX2500. Welcome to

    contact me for any questions.

  • to dukefaws been doing this for a year and i own a computer buss and no one costumer has came back with same problem it will last more then weeks like you said because one of my costumers didnt want to do it left his computer in my shop as a gift i tried and then well im actually on you tube on that laptop rite now lol dont hate

  • I never heard about this idea, but bearing in mind the fact that the motherboard/pcb is made of several layers, heating will serve to spread the heat around the entire board. This will result in a smaller temeprature gradient (change) which cause damage to the pcb. Imagine 7 pcb layers with a differnt change in temperature.

  • my channel is all about this problem

  • Why on Earth are you heating ALL over the board?! There is a problem with one chip.. ONE chip. Heat that for Gods sake man. Your waving that thing around like your blow drying your hair or something. My God people and their youtube videos.

  • i hade this problem and fixed it with a $1 bic lighter. got the gpu top real hot then the bottom of the board where gpu was and after a few mins pushed the cpu down on the board it works. for now!

  • i have a dv2000, and i will try this out. failing is accetable cos this laptop is really crap.

  • Fucking boring

  • I had the same issue with my DV2007, but luckily I was in Singapore at the time. The local HP Service replaced the motherboard with a similar Compaq item and it has worked like a charm for about 7 months now. So buy a new MB from Asia!!!

Using a heat gun is a bit primitive. Some people have successfully repaired their DV2000/6000 motherboards by carefully stripping off all the ancillaries (GPU, batteries etc.) and placing them in a typical household oven for 10 minutes in 200 degrees Celsius.

  • This method of repair is savagely crude. I doesn't even melt the solder, it just forms temporary connection.

For proper repair flux and hot air gun for electronics is needed. It helps if the motherboard is heated form below. Infrared gun is better than hot air.

The process of repairing is done when solder under the chip is melted and chip is pushed by operator by fraction of the millimeter and left to cool down.

  • guys never..never buy laptops from hp. if u do u r equivalent to an idiot.

  • On Nvidia chips this will only work for a few days/weeks! The bumps under the silicon die are the problem, not the balls connecting it to the motherboard. No reballing or reflowing will fix a dead chip in the long run only replace with new.

Please read why these chips fail here: theinquirer(dot)net/inquirer/news/1004378/why-nvidia-chips-defective

This is happening to all Nvidia GPUs 2004 to mid 2008 and even some Ati stuff (X series mainly).

  • hey duke, very nice link you gave there, amazing how we have been scammed by these companies with these bad GPUs. anyone knows where to get good Nvidia GPU chips?

  • @juanoporras

People are being scammed by companies that offer reflow service to fix this! Only good solution is to replace the chip. Most chips produced after 0827 are good. I source my chips directly from China, but there is lots of junk on the market. Never buy reball/refurbished and try to get new chips that are produced after 0827.

  • yes man, I completely agree with you.

also by "companies" I would also like to include nvidia and HP for not standing behind their products as they should (I used to be nvidia fan so you know).

In other hand, if I change the GPU with a good one will it also fix the wireless (orange light) problem? or that problem is casued by something different.

thanks a lot man for the Input.

  • @juanoporras

Yes the WiFi issue is also caused by the G6150. Get a new G6150 with the 09+ date code from Ebay about $40.

  • @juanoporras , wifi issues typically aren't caused by a gpu issue idk who the hell told you that but their dead wrong. If they were any IT person, they would tell you that HP offered a recall on many series in the DV lineup...specifically the DV6000 series. The wifi issues is 90% of the time a bad motherboard, I have yet to see HP actually just replaced the WIFI card itself.

  • @bigduey69 WiFi issue is caused by the GPU. G6150 is a Northbridge and does more than just the graphics.

  • @DukeFawks , Ah I see. That wouldn't definitely tie the 2 together, I really didnt think of that at first. Thats true.

  • @bigduey69 My dv9000 lost its wireless and the next day lost its video. Heat gunned the GPU and wireless and video came right back. Doesnt really make sense to me either.

  • @DukeFawks the bumps under the silicone are not the problem, it's happens due to lead free solder used, reballing using leaded solder and the problem will never come or att least take years, i reballed my sony fz21m 9 months ago still good. the unleaded solder under heat stress cracks altough you can reflow a number of times in the flux dries in the paste and hence the chip will die

  • @jamshad187 If you say so ;) I'm doing dozens of Nvidias each week and the ones I was reballing all came back after a few months (Sony FZ is G86-750). New chips are the only good solution. Read the story I linked to in my first comment!

To know if the chip is bad, heat it up for 20 seconds. If it works again the chip is bad(90%), else you can reball.

  • @DukeFawks Not entirely accurate. Reballing these chips with a lead based solder is certainly a better solution and in many cases seem to be lasting more than a year. Of course the end all solution would be to replace the chip with a newer revision and not use lead-free solder. The problem with this is of course.. availability. There isn't a US supplier of these chips so people are stuck doing the next best thing and thats reflowing "properly". The video here is a perfect exmaple of how NOT to

  • @DukeFawks After my DV2405tx failed after 14 month of use, i implyed copper mod and fixed my computer with 230c reflow for 40s,and my computer lasted till now(21 Month). idel-cpu/42c-gpu/51c Mload-cpu/54c-gpu/72c (Before copper mod idel-cpu/38c-gpu/83c Mload-cpu/50c-gpu/114c),when fixing the computer, you start from the root.

All BGA fails eventurely, this problem is not caused by Nvidia, but a desigh defect by hp, they let the thermal band drop too quickly and cause excessive thermal expansion

  • @DukeFawks Yes but not all Nvidia ?GPUs just Nvidia parts no 65nm and 55nm processes are fucked

  • @DukeFawks I thought that problem not in Nvidia... I have dv6741er (with nvidia 8400M GS) and there was same problem caused by bad coolnig. So I reflow not video chip but chipset and it works fine =). Btw in this models is highly recomended to replace standart cooling stick between intel chipset and heat pipe with copper plate ;) Why does everyone think that problem is in video chip? Yes in many cases there is black screen or beeps "video error". But its cause of chipset, not video chip.

  • On Nvidia chips this will only work for a few days/weeks! The bumps under the silicon die are the problem, not the balls connecting it to the motherboard. No reballing or reflowing will fix a dead chip in the long run only replace with new.

  • @mansoorppv

The die itself is rarely at fault. A repair like this is short lived for many reasons. You not get a good wetting. You run the risk of blistering or delaminating the chip and the board. Reballing and Reflowing will work - but only - and I mean ONLY - if done correctly. Youtube is for music video - not do it yourself motherboard repair. Many will shrug this fact off and try it anyway, only to find out the hard way.

Read the Q & A at PrecisionDivision . com - it discusses this issue

  • @DukeFawks I have had this fix work for over 1 year on about 20 dv2000's dv9000's ..

i do this for 80$ and works great...

You have to take the extra step and add copper shims and good thermal paste after to keep heat down

  • this works

  • foxxxyn was - black screen of death your confused with the red ring of death you fucking retard!

  • this fixed my HP DV9535nr. I was totally skeptical but it worked!!!!

  • good information --- fixed mine dv2000 like this.. :)

was - black screen of death -- no video, but pc working.

heated using heatgun (carefully) - both nvidia chips - and voila!! ;)

  • hi guys,

    i have dv2799ee with C2D - 2.50GHz - T9300-6mb Level2- nVidia 8400

For the last few days it was getting over heat and display started fading like broken characters or like winds shading on display. Now its black but all lights are still working. Important thing that no Beeps at all. Just CPU fan and all keyboard lights. hdd light shows its working. screen is black. pls what i am supposed to do...

  • how do i turn the internal fans on in unending mode? i have a dv2416us and just changed its mobo

  • I used the heat gun on a dv2000 and dv6000 it worked. But I didn't use it as long of time as in this video. at that heat for such a long time your bound to burnout the chips. You just need the solder to melt and that only takes around 15sec at 750 deg. Personally this video shows you how to fry your motherboard.

  • @JaredWoodsTheReal1 plus from experience when doing this on an xbox 360 you don't want to have the motherboard sideways when you use the heat gun because you run the risk of one of the small chips desodering and falling of the motherboard.

  • i just had mine changing the motherboard, just today, any precautions? pls tell how to take care of it.

  • I wonder if this would cure the multiple screen image problem on these machines. That's when you turn it on instead of getting one large screen displays you get 6 small screen displays, i.e 6 boot screens, 6 mouse pointers, 6 Vista start up screens etc - anyone know why this happens on these infernal machines

  • Take your time to earn money and get a new laptop or go out with your girl friends. with some kind of usage, new computer is not as expensive as you think.

And i can tell you that one mates working for HP care, he s not also sur that repaired one can stand still for 6 months after.

  • nice video shows how HP or some others computer marks are suk.

But friends, i guess, u wont do that tuto at home bcause except for experience:

    1. u kill your wallet in paying electrical notes.

    2. although your lovely Dv2000 or IBM T40 ... can re-work again, but trust me, 1, 2 months after, or you do 2 benchmark with 3D mark 2003, it will be sh**t again.

    3. U lose ur time to do open, close, re-open, re-close ur laptop without resullt.

    4. U will end up with sale it on ebay and pay ebay fee.

  • The issue with the DV2000, DV6000, DV9000, and TX1000 laptops happens to be both your fan, video memory, and video card.

If you update your BIOS that will help with the overheating, and update your video card drivers directly from Nvidia for the GO6150 series.

If you do not update these files, you will need to have a BGA reflow service to fix your chipsets to restore your wireless and video.

Check doubleclickittofixit com for tips to fix them

  • After 3 months, it happened again! Closed the lid on Pavillion DV6200. which I assume went to sleep as it should have, but on lifting the lid there was nothing on the screen, just blue lights on the pwr panel.

Restarted, but still get a black screen. & laptop restarts on iits own.

I reheaated the MOBO (over did it this time) and now I´m waiting for it to cool down then test.

  • I'm going to try it with a blow dryer, if it works I'll post a video response.

  • well did it work?

  • can we use hair dryer instead of heat gun?

  • You are a fuckin star m8... ive worked in comps for years and not tried this... did it today with a hair dryer (Lowest speed Highest Heat) and bugger me it worked. I am chufed m8 and this message is being posted on the lappy i just fixed.

You my friend are a star...

  • dude, You MUST use a heat gun. A hair dryer is detrimental to electronic components because of the electrostatic produced inside of it. Also a hair dryer does not get hot enough, you my friend are lucky.

  • Crap - a heat gun produces as much electrostatic as any hairdryer, although its true a hair dryer won't get hot enough. there is so much Bullshit spoken on here, the mind boggles. Besides the electrostatic wont hurt it most chips are and have been "buffered" on their outputs since the 1980's - the used to be marked "BE" to denote this prior CMOS chips were marked "UBE" for "unbuffered" don't see them now though - CMOS = "Complimentary Metal Oxide Silicon"

  • @bilal12e - No, a typical hairdryer does not produce enough heat.

Try melting a small piece of solder with a hairdryer and you'll see that it won't reach the melting temperature of typical 60/40 tin/lead solder - about 360 degrees Fahrenheit, lead-free solder needs at least 420 degrees Fahrenheit or more depending on the composition.

I use an inexpensive heat gun ($29.95) from Harbor Freight Tools that has adjustable temperature control, it works really well for reflowing SMD's.

    Good luck!

  • This video is causing people to ruin their systems. A "heat gun" is a crude, uncontrolled method - and is being used by people who know nothing about motherboard repair. Heat guns cause damage. There are places that can fix these units very well - by reflow or reball. One shop - Precision Division in Clearwater, Fl - modifies the fan so that it runs on high. They offer a 120 warranty and repair these units for about a hundred. Cheaper than buying a new board - plus you get the modifications.

  • it will fix my wireless issue caused by nvidia?

  • I'll be damned!. disassmbled the DV6000, removed the motherboard, put foils around all plastic parts of the motherboard PCB and applied heat directly on the GPU. noticed 1 thing. The GPU cooling system sucks. made up of a copper core, covered by 1" sq square plastic sheet. I say not good enough. I will replace the plastic with copper, and then add thermal compound to the GPU. Hope that helps. system now posts and echoes "No Operating System Found" No problem. that is the easiest part.

  • Reflowed my HP pavillion DV 9540 last week, worked like a charm. Luckily I had a thermal camera for around 6000 Euro at work. So I sure did have the right equipment.

  • I have an HP DV6000. The system board turns on when power switch is pressed with the AC adapter plugged. There is no posting. No video. But the cpu fan runs for 30 seconds and then the system shuts itself down. My suspicion is that it is video card issue. Not CPU. I wonder if the video solution proposed will work on my system. Can anyone explain the purpose of heating the motherboard? What does it do the PCB other than heat-expand and then shrink it? What does that translate to?

  • Make sure its GPU first! GPU failure is usually followed by 2 short and 1 long beep. If you sure its GPU, then do what the guy on the video does. Just don't heat entire motherboard, its unnecessary. Check author's *.doc, it showes very clearly how to do it.

  • thanks ESStonian. Actually, I do not get any beep error. The screen is pitch black and quiet. Just the noise of a fan, which dies after 30 seconds when the power shuts down. Familiar. That happens when you have cpu, or gpu overheating. with cpu overheating, typically u would have some video when u turn on the system, then cpu overheats and shuts down. here, I suspect it is a video card problem, probably fried, or problem with seating of gup on PCB due to overheating, or.. running out of ideas.

  • Try my copper shim rather then a penny or stock thermal pad. It is a perfect fit and keeps temps way down. Comes with thermal paste! Only $6! Search for "dv2000 copper shim" on ebay.

  • Thanks so much i have a dv9000 as well and it had black screen, your idea helped me alot noe my laptop is working fine thanks so much

  • Thx for the *.doc support file. I didn't have the thermometer so I put tin near the GPU, and was measuring heat by the tin. Tin melts at 231C; you advised to heat up to 230; so tin can be a good measurement, if you don't have thermometer.

  • I did it today, it worked; however, GPU heats up to 70 C, when I turn my PC off to avoid reflowing it again. I will try to put something between GPU and heatsink; hopefull this will fix the problem. Also my CPU heats up to 75C with 1% of usage. Thus, something is wrong with cooling system I guess.

Any advise on what can we use inbetween GPU and heatsink?

  • Copper?

  • Check out the thermal compound between the cpu and heat sink. If it looks cakced and chipped, I would scrape it thoroughly, clean it with cloth until you get to the core copper roof of the heat sink. Then I would use Arctic Silver thermal compound. It is the best. Lately I used theramic on my DV8000 when I replced the Turion CPU. It was overheating and shutting system down. I removed the compound and replaced it with Arctic Silver. My laptop is working well now. Good luck.

  • Done. Cleaned it, applied thermal compound. CPU runs 45-50C idle, GPU - 47-55C idle. Seems alright, though I expected better results. There was no thermal compound between GPU and heatsink; what a design?!

  • Esstonian, suggestion for GPU fix: 1) remove any piece between GPU and copper base of heat sink. get urself a copper flat sheet about 1/8" thick. Cut it to size of heat sink. Apply Arctic Silver on GPU. Mount CPU & GPU cooling assembly. Tighten screws. Drill a few holes in a circle fromation, 1/8 inch diameter on the base of the laptop directly beneath the GPU to improve air flow. HP lies, cheats and sucks big time. You have to improvise and improve their poor design on the DV series. Cheers

  • sorry, forgot to add, after putting Arctic Silver thermal compound on GPU, put copper strip on top, press it until it sticks, then put the GPU & CPU heat sink assimbly. Tighten screws of the GPU. Ensure copper strip is secure now. Tighten the rest fo the screws in the CPU heat sink. If this modified cooling does not work, u got serios issues with the GPU. Dont forget to drill holes on the base plastic shell beneath the GPU. Drill a few holes in circle shape. make them flush to improve airflow.

  • muito obrigado consegui ressucitar meu note

  • The motherboard is easy to remove, i just tried this tonight, and to my disbelief it actually worked. Only fr fifteen minutes, but it worked lol. And i didnt have a heat gun i just used a hair dryer, so that maybe my problem. im going to just order a new mobo and mod the gpu heatsink and call it good.

  • does anyone have a link to schematics or vids to show you how to remove the mobo...I am coming up blank...msg me or post comment.

    btw...this is great video.

  • I found a few ...Here is one of them:

HP Pavilion DV2000 Tear Down Guide

    good luck

  • It's very easy. I disassemble in 5 minues, and assemble in 15.

  • you rock! i just repaired my hp pavilion dv6103 using a heat gun. its wireless and speakers were not working, now perfect. keep the good job

  • its working!! i did it on my dv-6000 3 weeks ago and it still runs... i followed the intructions in the doc, just without a thermometer, but it worked like charm anyway. Today i'll try it on my dv-2000... i'm the lucky owner of 2 HP with the same problem....

  • @CBP64 Why Shouldnt it run? If you do it properly ,then you have got a working lappy. Modify the cooler,ad some aluminium/copper under the heatsink +thermal paste. And its more more stable! If you do it right, then you have no worries. Make sure you do it with flux. Cause without it ,its like cooking eggs without oil!

  • I'm not sure what you're supposed to cover with aluminum foil. Somebody please tell me !! :) If you could provide detail so I know exactly what you're saying thatd be great thanks !

  • @xxlilskaterboy You cover the plastic pieces with aluminum foil to keep from melting them with high heat.

  • Try my copper shims instead of a penny. It is a perfect fit and keeps your temps way down! Only $9 and includes thermal paste. Search for "dv2000 copper shim" on ebay.

  • wtf man

  • I was a fool watching this video ... lol. thanks, you made me lose miserably time hehehehehe

  • its working i did it on my HP pavilion 9000,envidia geforce 7600 go.thx

  • you must be a complete asshole trying to fix a laptop in that way, don't waste your money buying heat gun, there are too much theory involved in this process and with this kind of misinformation peple is trying to solve problems risking health and money. There is no logical way to mantain one laptop working with this process. You must use BGA flux, this is like frying eggs without oil, after a few seconds the anti-ignite protection start burning, this can cause pantreatitis, blood poisoning, etc

  • jesus, you could have made the vid a bit better quality? :S

  • I just did it on my DV6000 and it`s now running for 20 minutes so far! :)

  • are you serious dude does it really works??!!!

  • @ozgmsi Yes, it really works. I did it again, and notebook works. Only difference is, that I exposed graphic chip only. I packed whole board with Al foil and cut off small view at this chip only on both sides.

I'm looking for new board now, but with better graphic chip than this.

  • @ozgmsi worked for a while, but then it died. I repeated it 3 times! :D and every time it worked for a week! The man whom I sold the computer to, told me that I had to fix the body so it can cool better.

  • Oh I forgot to mention I repair laptops and you should not be using a heat gun on this model laptop but use a 12 guage shot gun instead:0)

  • @valdi9165 ROFL you made my day!!!

  • thanx bro, the amd chipsets are the problomatic types on these labtops. now I not saying that the intel chipset version are that much better becose it has a whole slew of other problems. this laptop is a fluke just like the brand new amc pacer wos when it come out and left u stranded on the road at night. this laptop i dread working on as many others will tell u same.

  • @valdi9165 what da hack is a guage shot gun?

  • This method is very temporary and if your lucky and get it to work put it all back together and sell it asap? But this is not good for the unwarry buyer and I dont suggest this but it happens daily on ebay. Best thingto do is not to buy this engineered piece of crap that is so fucked up indesign. Hp took the cake on this laptop model. So many problems with the dv2000.

  • it wil only work a little while, like 2 weeks, i bought a repaired motherboard, it almost lasted 2 weeks, the last week it was very unstable, and now when i try to boot it tup the card reader led lights up and the power led, and power butn led is light in and no picture on the screen, and it just does thast when i turn it on and it just restars after about a minute

  • see my video searchme by betosoft199

  • Can you tell me what is the hot air temperature ?

  • I've done it and it works....for now.Can the author tell us if it will "broke" again the video card??

  • FAIL: Well despite measurements with an IR thermometer and slow ramp up, I failed. My HP DV2500 now doesn't even try to boot up. I don't blame the author of this video, but I thought I would just add my experience to the list for people to consider.

  • i am about to try this. i knew about this method for some time, but never heed this kind of problem before with my laptops(all of them are hp). also as an electronic engineer i know it is important to heat-up motherboard simultaneously everywhere, because it may crack more of joints as you about to fix due material diffraction from heat. it's nice to see it on video though) anyway... i'll probably fry it up (: ... but its dead anyway

  • Wow it worked. Okay, I fried the board to melting point and still have 20 screws left over when i put it back together. Oh yes and I snapped a ribbon cable and now have to use a mouse but what the hell. Its was good for nothing other than a door stop. I've backed up my data on to and external HD so I don't care if it bursts in to flames. One thing is for sure. HP will never see any more money from me. I hope more people become aware and blacklist them

  • that's funny i'm trying to do this shit tomorrow and hope it'll still be working :)

  • Good, but its helped me for 1 mo.

    Mine is Pavilion dv9335nr.

  • that is, by far, the dumbest, most despicable act i have ever seen in my life

  • im a pc tech by tradeand it works

  • mine is a paper weight! bought a dell 1440 today
