I'd take that Mazdaspeed3 look as a compliment... Those cars look better than even the older Impreza Sedan platforms IMO. If the Mazdaspeed 3 came with Symetrical AWD and 300hp, I'd pick that over an older STi sedan... Looks are subjective...

Last year's post was more about how I like the Mazdaspeed 3's hatchback styling compared to the sedan GD Impreza. I never mentioned liking the MS3's quality/performance. I was merely saying that IF the MS3 had the engine/drivetrain of the STi, I'd pick it over the older sedan Impreza because I like the hatchback look. Fortunately for me, there's the new STi.

If you "luv scoobs soo much" you'd know that Subaru's own Petter Solberg complained about the old sedan platform not being able to hang with the Hatchbacks of Ford/Citroen. He URGED Subaru to make it into a Hatch. The GC/GD sedan was good while it lasted, but 06-07 season was MISERABLE for SWRT. It wasn't competetive anymore. I guess you could say it was "broken" so they fixed it by joining the bandwagon. A 2nd place podium finish in Acropolis on its 1st outing is an improvement. Read up on it.

The new wrx is for adults who drive fast. They want to grow out of just teens who buy it. The wrx keeps the performance while changing the body style so it won't look so agressive. Adults just don't look right driving the old wrx. This car is just right because you can drive it to places not having to worry about what people might think about you while still owning the streets. Also if you goto your girlfriend's house driving the old wrx, what do u think her parents will think?

This is beside the fact that Subaru re-designed the car to have a shorter front/rear overhang and a wider stance for a lower polar moment of inertia, which is integral in WRC.
I was expecting new designs to look more like Lmaborghini Reventón, with many sharp margins and angles. Not what Subaru has in mind. Like many others I do not like this shape; But I like the performance and some of the features.
Just wait until you start seeing them flying around in your neighbourhood. Bet everyone will dream of owning one. In time, critics of the new body style will surely warm up to the new aggressive/sporty look.

If you watch World Rally Racing, the reason why the produce the WRX STi, the wagons are proving to be the best cars. Ford races the Escort, Citroen races the C4 and they are proving to be better. So i wouldnt be surprised to see evo looking like that in the future so the can get back into the WRC. Evo's are losing badly in rallying.
But the EVO X stomps the new STi in every performance test except braking.
What happens on the rally course has nothing to do with what happens on the street. The rally cars are as close to these two as a NASCAR Ford Fusion is to a street Ford Fusion.

I just saw the 08 STI for the first time in person yesterday. It just looked mean sitting there begging me to play with it. On the other hand I also saw my first EVO X in person and the car sorta said to me "back off and just look... I'm too pretty to drive."

I saw an 2008 STi in person last week and I must say it looks very nice. Pictures don't do this car justice, you just got to check it out in person. I still like my 2004 STi though. Probably b/c its a Stage 2 STi with meth making 340whp and 400wtq! lol

Americans don't take kindly to change and advancements which is why they lag behind the rest of the countries in terms of state of the art technology and design. I like the new Impreza STi. It has an updated design for true mature gear heads. 2 Thumbs up for Subaru.
Everyone who complains about the "hatchback" does not care about performance. The top rally cars in the world, lately superceding the Subaru, are the Citroen C4 and the Ford WRC, both with an aerodynamic profile almost identical to this car. The Mitsu Evo is fading from view in the rearview mirror. Only aeipee13 understands -- look at the old Lancias and Audis. You Americans interested only in cool think back to classic "fastback" long before "hatchback." Performance is all that matters.
Its slower due to extra weight, that is all that truly matters. They can stick to their guns on the issue all they want but the o-60 time they bragged about in the video is actually less than the 06 and 07.
It gains about 45+ pounds depending on where you check your specs, everywhere I look they are different including the subaru site itself. I suppose its less wt gained than the last major body change though right
For all you four door hatch haters, look up the best rally car ever, Lancia Delta integrale. Best rally car platform there is. i sold my GC8 because of all the T.A.Ds (totally awesome dudes)driving subarus. now that they made a four door hatch sti i may be coming back to subaru.

In fact the only reason a sedan version of the new impreza even EXISTS is because Subaru knows the hatch won't sell well here! So there goes your "suburban american" theory. Actually the hatch is preferred in the rest of the world, not the US.
Also it allows SWRT to enter a hatchback in the WRC where hatches are historically more successful. The 2006 and 2007 Subaru WRC car was considered a failure.

OK, I don't know what you guys are smoking, but looks don't do a SHITFUCKDAMN for performance. You might be right, I might be a fan, but I like the way it looks and I like the reason for why subaru changed it. If you can't find out why, I'll tell you. 5-doors have a longer wheel base relative to their length, shorter fore and aft overhangs, which reduces the car's polar moment of inertia, which results in crisper handling.

It does look a LITTLE bit better in person...
But it still doesn't look really exciting or aggressive. It doesn't look mean, like the old Sti's did. It looks kind of puffy and friendly.
However, the interior is really nice.
It's nice to sit in. Not so nice to look at.
Not worth $40K, that's for sure.

Everyone who complains about the "hatchback" does not care about performance. The top rally cars in the world, lately superceding the Subaru, are the Citroen C4 and the Ford WRC, both with an aerodynamic profile almost identical to this car. The Mitsu Evo is fading from view in the rearview mirror. Only aeipee13 understands -- look at the old Lancias and Audis. You Americans interested only in cool think back to classic "fastback" long before "hatchback." Performance is all that matters.

Its slower due to extra weight, that is all that truly matters. They can stick to their guns on the issue all they want but the o-60 time they bragged about in the video is actually less than the 06 and 07.

For all you four door hatch haters, look up the best rally car ever, Lancia Delta integrale. Best rally car platform there is. i sold my GC8 because of all the T.A.Ds (totally awesome dudes)driving subarus. now that they made a four door hatch sti i may be coming back to subaru.

That's funny! It's a known fact that americans don't like hatchbacks and wagons! In fact the only reason a sedan version of the new impreza even EXISTS is because Subaru knows the hatch won't sell well here! So there goes your "suburban american" theory. Actually the hatch is preferred in the rest of the world, not the US.

Also it allows SWRT to enter a hatchback in the WRC where hatches are historically more successful. The 2006 and 2007 Subaru WRC car was considered a failure.

OK, I don't know what you guys are smoking, but looks don't do a SHITFUCKDAMN for performance. You might be right, I might be a fan, but I like the way it looks and I like the reason for why subaru changed it. If you can't find out why, I'll tell you. 5-doors have a longer wheel base relative to their length, shorter fore and aft overhangs, which reduces the car's polar moment of inertia, which results in crisper handling.
