can you tell? can you see? // I don't believe in me anymore // pull me from the wreckage // of a life grown more pathetic // even I can see the message:
time to treat yourself more precious // shine a light into the darkness // put some life into the deadness // where there used to be the ?head nest? // now it's just a fucking mess.
This is tough for me... I love the instrumental aspect of the song, obviously. It's perfect, all of Mansell's instrumentation is perfect. And his voice is great tonally and just fine... but even though the lyrics speak to innocence and simplicity, I would expect things more profound for the ambience of pure sadness that only Clint's capable of creating. Simplicity doesn't equal plain... maybe I've been listening to too much Modest Mouse! ... Redemption's not what I want from Mansell.
I disagree. There is vulnerability in his voice which perfectly matches the tone of the song, Plus here we hear a certain amount of sensitivity in the vocals and lyrics which was never displayed during his time with PWEI.
And I agree with you Calico. This is my favourite version of the song. There's something precious and earnest about the lyrics. I remember hearing this during a very difficult time in my life. It reduced me to tears. As the sun came up at around 5 in the morning, I was in total breakdown mode, tears, sobbing, the works. now, I can hardly even imagine feeling that way again. This song always brings me a great deal of comfort after that. It feels human and raw.
This guy sounds like the lead singer from Pop Will Eat Itself who performed on thier last album.
Clint Mansell was apart of this band, to those who don't know.
Check out one of their tracks: Eich Bein Ien Auslander (Don't think that I spelt it properly, but you shouldn't have too much trouble finding it anyway)
Overall, this sounds great; just seen the movie; great also. Darren Afronosky did a beautiful with his creazy visual techniques.
I plan to see The Wrestler when it's released on DVD.
GReat to hEAR his AMAzing voice Again.

It works in the movie.. it is in Requiem of a Dream, right?
well, I think this type of music loses its power when it is removed from the movie.
I don't like the vocals.. It sounds like a nervous guy at a kareokee-bar.

This would have been great without the singing but is great with it as well.

I disagree. I think the singing adds a poetic value to the song, which fits the entire concept.

Not Clint Mansell's best work, he seemed to be flat the entire time! He's capable of so much more...

It's spelled "Ich bin ein Ausländer"... but it's ok. You don't even have "Umlaute" (an a, o or u with two dots above it) to spell it right ;)
