As a gun owner and practitioner of defensive armed shooting, I would have only done one thing differenlty. That is to give out verbal warnings about having a firearm and letting the man know that I was armed and ready to use violent force against him if he continued to enter my home. Actually I probably would have went up to the door and broke it backwards into his face immediately pointing the barrel of my pistol or shotgun at him from a safe distance. She did a good job though. @quidnick Actually not as often as you would think. There's a large failure percentage with the tazers that shoot prods out. The prods don't always penetrate clothing. Also, there are cons to handheld tazers that you have to get up close to people. The con is just that, that you have to literally get into arms distance with a handheld. Firearms you can hit your target effectively from a safe distance and you are assured that your bullets will penetrate clothing.

@aratidwell You don't shoot to scare someone. If the situation is already at a level where deadly force is warranted by the person defending himself, shooting to scare isn't smart. It reduces the amount of ammunution you have. Also, if you pull a gun on someone, it better be because what they're doing is so dangerous that they have to be stopped immediately. Actually shooting the person is the best way to do that. It's the difference between physically and mendally stopping the person.

A family member of an 86-year-old man that mysteriously vanished around April 14, along with the show's host and a cop investigating, took phone calls from people around the country and one person asked if the fellow's father was carrying a gun. The guy said he wasn't but that now ... all of his family "packs."
People are saying it's so hard to take a life, but I feel like if I had a shotgun on a home-intruder, I would have no hesitation and no guilt. I would only be worrying about my own future (because of liberal prosecutors or revenge-seeking relatives of the headless man), and the clean-up I'm going to have to do.

That's got to be possibly the most distressing 911 call I've listened to.The homowner was clearly in turmoil,not wanting to shoot the intruder,but knowing she'd have to protect herself! And why did it take so long for the police to arrive? I mean,hell,was she THAT isolated?! I live in a mid-size city... 10 minutes from central business district in a high socio-economic suburb. In all my years Ive only once called 911. And they took 25 minutes to get to my house. By that time the intruder had left. He ran fast... but he didnt even need to. He could have crawled away and they wouldnt have been there in time. It doesnt have to be rural... a crappy officer is a crappy officer. Like in any government job

I think in her panic she meant to say I havent shot him yet. Then after the second round she completely loses composure. @aratidwell You don't shoot to scare someone. If the situation is already at a level where deadly force is warranted by the person defending himself, shooting to scare isn't smart. It reduces the amount of ammunution you have. Also, if you pull a gun on someone, it better be because what they're doing is so dangerous that they have to be stopped immediately. Actually shooting the person is the best way to do that. It's the difference between physically and mendally stopping the person.

I live in a mid-size city... 10 minutes from central business district in a high socio-economic suburb. In all my years Ive only once called 911. And they took 25 minutes to get to my house. By that time the intruder had left. He ran fast... but he didnt even need to. He could have crawled away and they wouldnt have been there in time. It doesnt have to be rural... a crappy officer is a crappy officer. Like in any government job

I awoke in the middle of the night hearing a door banging in and thought that immediately someone was breaking in. I ran into my friend's room with my Glock, friend called 911. A gun is meant to kill someone, and that's just what she used it for. It sounds like she agonized over the decision but she did exactly as I would have done in the situation.
