With government competition they will be forced to reduce their premiums or lose customers. It' that simple. This will place money back into American pockets.

I disagree. During his 2nd term Reagan had a 10% unemployment and a huge deficit/national debt. He and Bush should have been throw in prison for the Iran Contra Affair. His entire cabinet was either fired, put in prison or forced to resign. Also he started the trickle down theory which hurt the middle-class, as always, and also placed the economy in chaos. Republicans can create colossal messes but they don't know how to clean them up!

I lived through that era SEMPfilms, and he actually LOWERED taxes. By the time they all took effect in about 1988 the unemployment rate went down. Still, Reagan isn't in power, Obama is, and his philosophy is the exact opposite of Reagan's! kseadam8907 is right. Obama may or may not have good intentions, but that isn't enough on it's own. Also polls in June '09 found that most Americans would be willing to pay higher taxes so everyone could have health insurance and that they said the government could do a better job of holding down health-care costs than the private sector. It' a myth that Carter wrecked the economy & Reagan's bold tax cuts saved it. Economic growth indices GDP, jobs, revenues were all positive when Carter left office. All plunged after Reagan policies took effect. The main economic problem during the Carter years was his Federal Reserve Chairman Volcker raised interest rates. I didn't say it wasn't Hellsadvocate. I am only suggesting that Congress must pass it before he can sign it! Therefore they are just as responsible for it!

Well, here's the thing. I didn't agree with bailing them out, either. Though I did agree it was neccessary to not dip into an even FURTHER reccession than we had at the time.
Bailing out the companies stopped a domino effect reccession. Yes, people are still having troubles, but it could've been much, much worse.

So you agree AND disagree with it? You don't understand how basic economics works Hellsadvocate. If those companies had gone into bankruptcy, they would not have been closed. They would have been put under the charge of a judge who would have forced the companies to make changes in order to survive. Such could have been done without even one dime of tax payer's money. The economy could have come back on it's own. Instead we are paying the bill for the massive debt created!

Stop watching propagandic youtube videos that tell you if someone was made to make 'proper' decisions about the companies that everything would've magically fallen back in to place.
Changes in order to survive? Good one. Well, I guess you could say that, since you seem to like Reagan. The first two years of the Reagan years were full of unemployment and a bad economy, yet his whole presidency isn't judged like you do so toward Obama's.

Hellsadvocate where do you get the idea that allowing them to go into bankruptcy court was a BAD idea? Doesn't it make sense to make them fix thier own problems without forcing the tax payer to hold them up? You know as well as I do that we will never see that money! As to Reagan. The reason we judge Obama the way we do is that understand his philosophy. He is the exact opposite of Reagan. Reagan believed in the ability of the American people to bring the economy back, so be wanted tax cuts....

He believes that gov is the only entity that can create a strong economy. There are nations that live under that kind of belief, and the people that live in those nations suffer for it. ...experience. How can they run what they have no experience in? If you were on an operating table and saw a bureaucrat holding the knife and promising you'd be ok, would that comfort you? If works the same way in an economy. They don't know what they are doing! In contrast, Reagan did what few politicians would ever think to do. He allowed people with that experience (the private sector) to run the economy by letting them keep thier hard earned money! Let me illustrate this for you more....

...rejects this in favor of a system of higher taxes, and gov regulation. Such didn't work when tried during the Great Depression. In fact, no country is ever prosperous under that king of system. Look at gov control over the economy of Venesuela as an example. Even Obama has to admit that his policies are not really helping the economy. He promised if they passed the stimulus that unemployment wouldn't rise above 8%. They were wrong, and that's just ONE policy. Can't you see the truth now?

@USSJ3 As IF Bush had any experience or Reagan, an actor! Palin' credentials is being a mother of 5? I wonder how in the hell these people ever get in office! It takes intelligence and great advisers, as well as a Congress willing to keep their promise to look out for the people. We have that finally!
