  • wow!

  • it seems heavy on the head

  • Very nice! This was very helpful! The makeup is very pretty!

  • I used this method to do my hair for a costume party, but instead of that bag of hair or whatever they use to create the huge volume, i used a shower loofa. Yes, a shower loofa, and it worked extremely well. I would recommend using one, it was cheap and easy!

  • I'm trying it this week end... Hope it works !

  • wow!!!! i did it and it took me like 3 hours!!!! with of course assistance, and prior the making of the the rat took more time!!! but in all it was worth it!!! great video!!!!! id imagine in the 18th century how long they would be like dressing up..... and the hair and makeup omgggggg.....

  • hey i have a show comeing soon and i need some ideas of spanish hairstyles

    thank you =]

  • love the french songs!!!

  • DADABallerina..if what you mean by "rat" or "ratting" it is the same as to tease your hair with a brush or comb. aka to frizz it up :)

  • i loved it lol !

  • how pretty! megan really looked like marie antoinette(at least my image of her). <3

  • Hey lady pls do my hair for halloween! :D

  • amaaazing! i love the pearl and hairpin idea. =)

  • Megan is a beautiful woman and she's a gorgeous Marie Antoinette. The hair, make-up, the dress and the attitude is just gorgeous! If Kirsten Dunst saw this tutorial, she would be proud of Megan.

  • Lurve dis set up esp. d hairdo. Uniq!

  • what is the first music? please add for me the song name...

    thx

  • The songs are listed in the description text to the right of the video. Click on the more button.

  • @hairdresser86 Françoise Hardy -> comment te dire Adieu

  • that was nice

  • Interesting.

Would love to see a Dusty Springfield hair technique... or was it just hairpieces? and wigs

  • I didnt get it.. whats thar "rat" or whatever you call it? Where can I buy them? Can make them myself?

  • See Johnny Lavoy's Amy Winehouse video. He talks about how to make the rat.

  • Oh my god,

    This is crazy.

    I♥it.

  • do you pay ur models?

    haha thanks for the vid

i adore marie antoinette and her versailles style

cant wait till the next costume party or masquerade...wonder if i can handle it with a friend haha

  • No I can't!

They're very kind and patient friends!!! Hahahhaa

  • aw that's wonderful

i really wanna be Marie Antointette for halloween

or have a marie antoinette party or something..

either way ima definitely use this video =]

  • I don't know a word of French but I loved the music you used. And the look is really great and pretty! 5 stars!

  • You rule girl...!!! :o) I wish I could have make-up done by you :o))) I love how much effort you put in the videos - the outfit, the accessories, even the wallpaper is cute... :o)Not talking about your outstanding job on the hair and makeup itself. Thanks for that!

  • THIS IS MARVELOUS!

    i truly am amazed.

    you work wonders.

  • That was the best informative video!!! I have my Marie A. costume made already but was planning on buying a wig, now I won't have to! A million thanks! This is just wonderful, very detailed and brilliant!! A+!!

  • I'm brazilian and I don't speak so good englis but I love this video!

  • I love this song, isn't this Grace Kelly's daughter?

  • how long did this take????

    wow I love it! xx

  • The hair took less than an hour with us goofing around in front of the camera and eating chips and dip! I was also making it up as I was going along! I think if I knew what i was doing, I'd have done it in just over a half hour.

  • Just wanted to let you know, I LOVE THIS!!! It's so outrageous. I also love that you used a Lavoy video and took the hair to the next level. Your model Megan is beautiful and you're right, a very good sport! I used the Lavoy video and spent about 45 minutes doing my own hair a la Amy Winehouse. (I'm 54, so the hairdo reminded me of a childhood friend's mother) I was amazed at how easy it was to cover the ratt. Her makeup is exquisite too. What a perfect Marie Antoinette. Se magnifique!

  • Thank you very much!!!

  • ah looks great! and good music too.

  • I can hardly wait until halloween so that I can do this!

  • I love this video! Excellent! Could you please specify which blush and lip colors that you used? Thank you so much!

  • It's all listed in the description text box to the right of the video. You might need to click on the more info button.

I list the makeup there, including base products for every single video.

  • I wonder what they used back then instead of hairspray.

  • i absolutely LOVE (love-love-love) this...!!! you're amazingly talented! i swear, i'm going to fly out to australia just so you can do my make-up!!

  • i seen the movie so good

  • wow

    incredible

im am so going to try it

    thx

  • I love the hair and makeup. How hard would it be for a person with short curly hair to do this look?

  • Could you make a video about hair and make-up from Jane austen's time (beginning of the 19's century)? You know, just like Keira Knightley in "Pride and prejudice"! Thank you!

But the problem is that I have curly hair...

  • Yeah, the hairstyle from jane austin would be great! I like how they did the ones in Emma, with Gwenyth Paltrow.

  • thanks honey you are very profesional

  • how long does your hair have to be to do this?

    thanks for the video!

  • I think down to your shoulder blades, maybe half way between your shoulder blades.

  • this video is so much fun! I want to try this out on someone :3

  • This is great! Thanks for sharing!

  • That rocks! I wish I had super long hair like that. D: I love big hair.

  • beautiful =**

  • is there a way to do it without the hair rat/wrap thingy?

    :]

  • I was initially going to do it wiht a piece of foam/sponge from the craft store, then I saw Johnny Lavoy's video!

  • where can you get the fake hair peices? and how can you secure them really well...it would be embrassing if it just fell out haha...thanks!

  • Hahhahahaha.... it would be hilarious if it just fell out... and embarassing! This was very secure. There were a million bobby pins in her head though!

  • oh my god that is how they do it

    she absolutly suits that style

    and i love that music

  • This is wonderful! I always thought you'd need much more fake hair than you actually use here. Maybe I'm not cutting my hair just yet... :D

  • i think its really clever how you do this but i dont like how theres a flat bit n top of her head before it goes up. can this be avoided or is it because you have to put pins there?

  • I would have done a lot more elaborate tight curls if I had some hair pieces.

For this look, I was actually inspired by a photo I saw of Kirsten Dunst on set for the Marie Antoinette movie, and the curls just hung loose like this. It helped solve my problem of not having a hair peice!

  • So I am almost certainly going to do this for prom, but my hair is much longer than hers - from the video, maybe about two and a half times longer. Do you have any suggestions?

  • Wooahhhh... you must have very long hair!!! Megs hair is half way down her back. She's got quite long hair!

You could definitely play up curling the hair more. Sort of more like how a marie antoinette wig looks.

    I'd love to see pics!

  • Oh, then I definitely misjudged how long her hair is! I can sit on mine, but just barely. Thanks for the advice!

  • I tried this look on my friend for a ball. She wouldn't let me put the beauty mark, oh well, maybe next time. I love your videos, they are excellent, very professional, keep up the great work!!!!

  • you are amazing! its not many people i know that can do hair and makeup so well!

  • FANTASTIC!!!

  • just asking how many bobby pins did u use#

  • Hahahhaa.... Ummm.... it definitely wasn't a complete packet, but it was a lot!

  • thats a lot of work but she looked like a real Marie Antoinette! love this video.

  • I just saw that video from FordModels before I watched this. lol It's a great shortcut, huh?! Very clever. And I think it's pretty rad your grandmother made the outfit! I loved the video. :] Great job!

  • So that hair ball is called a "rat"? I never knew there was a cheat part of this type of hair style! Cool. She looked great. I would be concerned that it would fall before the night was through-- is this a look that requires you to be a walllflower or is it pretty secure?

  • It was surprisingly secure. I mean, it's not the kind of hairstyle you could go doing aerobcis in, but it was definitely secure.

  • He must of felt like he was gone back in time for a second there(your boyfriend) lol

  • Bravo..wow..BRAVO>>(clapping!) that was something else..i cant believe i havent seen this video yet.WOW magnificiant Amy what a fabulous job.did i mention that was beuatiful.yah you are both beautiful women.Megan had so much patience during this long long journey of becomong marie-antoinette.she could of definelty passed for marie-antionette.you shoudl work in hair in makeup for theatre or something.or other thigs because you have so much skills you could do anything in life.

  • It actually didn't take as long as it might have appeared! Probably less than an hour (and that's with me fiddling about with the camera, and dodging cables, etc).

This was a particularly fun day. I had both Summer and Megs over and we just laughed all day. I think we filmed this, the Mermaid vid and the pinup girl vid on the same day. Summer was sitting around in the mermaid makeup and megs with her hair like this when my boyfriend came home from work. He was a little surprised!

  • wow! that must have taken forever!

  • you are amazing!!!

  • That make-up is Gorgeous!

I love it, especially the blush :] i love pink blush.

  • Me encanta.

    I like it.

  • whats the song that u used in the begining?

  • All the music is listed in the description text to the right of the video.

  • yeah i noticed only after posting the comment.

LMAO GOOD WORK! i think i'm gonna do my hair like this!

  • you're my hero!!

  • You applied makeup on her like a expert ! :D

How do you apply the mascara on eyelashes to prevent them from clumping together ? Please send me a reply through msg , so i can keep note of it . MUCH THANKS ! :D

  • Oooh I love it! You actually inspired me to be Marie Antoinette for 2008. I am already working on sewing my costume..

I was wondering I have very curly hair, how will the hair you did in this video work with hair like that and how could I adapt it for my hair?

    Thanks, Ariel

  • This would look so cute with curly hair! I'd have some strands hanging down. Very rough romantic (that's what I loved about the styling in the Marie Antoinette movie).

I'd still tease it, but tease the hair so teh teased parts will always be concealed.

  • thanks for your answer! Maybe I'm going to try it next year, because we don't celebrate Halloween like that in Germany. We dress only scary (if we dress at all) and go for some sweets. That's all.

Our costume festival is the carnival of cologne, and that was last week...now i have to wait.

  • Awesome!!!

But - doesn't it ruin your hair?

  • I didn't tightly tease her hair. You basically tease it so you get volume. I didn't make it too dense. A lot of the work is done by the rat.

Her hair brushed out easily. I sat and brushed her hair while we ate dinner! On the same day I filmed something else on her.... I can't remember which video now! And was fine.

  • OMG. this is absolutely AMAAZING,,..I really love all your video's and you do such a great job , are you a certified makeup artist? ehehe, did you take a course? Also why did we have to make her face pale with pure white pigment?

  • In those days, women would pale their faces with powder. The paler you were, the more wealthy you appeared. In those times, they viewed people with tanned skin as being common, and working class (working out in the sun).

I used pure white pigment because Megan is pale already, and she's 2 shades up from the lightest Mac shade. So to significantly lighten her face, I use white pigment.

You could just go for a light foundation or powder.

  • that was freakin awesome!!! i never would have guessed the hair was done that way...you make that look so easy! and i kno it's anything but....it must suck to have to take the hair out

  • I was worried too, but it honestly didn't take long to brush it out. Just brushed from the end, working our way to the top. Took about 15 mins, no more than that!

  • How long is the models hair? I'd love to try this with my friend, and my hair is about a little longer than shoulder length.

  • Megan's hair goes down her back, past her shoulder blades, but not down to her waist. Maybe just try a smaller sized rat. You see also that Megan has a lot of hair "left over" that it can hang down. You could just have it all up.

  • Awesome!! I want to do my hair like that, but I don't know where I would wear it to. Maybe for Halloween this year.

  • Or get a bunch of girlfriends together, do yourselves up and have a photo day! You'll have photos you'll treasure forever, and it will be fun doing it!

I've done that a few times with friends where we have photo day, purposely going out and taking interesting photos of eachother in weird and interesting places or situations!

  • Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. Great work, dear! Thank you kindly for sharing. So inspirational.

  • hi amy thanks so much for this look. i dunno how to adapt the eye makeup, because i'm asian & do not have a crease on my eyelids. could u pls advise? thnx a lot!

  • That is absolutely amazing. And the look is sooo cute! I love it. Thanks for putting this up. Nice music too <3

  • very very cool! I think i'll try it sometime :) thanks for the info!

  • i love it and the music

thankyou for all your help and keep adding videos

  • The only brand that I have, that is difficult to get in the UK is Napoleon Cosmetics.

I don't know whether he ships his stuff internationally from his website. You could contact the company via email.

  • thanks for your help :) i love all your vid

  • is ie a lot of money if you don't mind me asking

  • About the same price as mac, a little bit cheaper.

  • what song is this?

  • All the songs are listed in the description text to the right of the video. Click on the "more" button. There's about 4 songs in this vid.

  • i have to be cinderella's stepsister in "into the woods", but they are very beautiful unlike the "ugly stepsisters" in other movies. ( aka shrek lol ). so we have to have huge dresses, marie antoinette hair ( me im wearing a wig, sry but i have "audrey hepburn" type short hair, lol. so yes, thank you for this! its a wonderful help!

  • Oh my that is the most spectacular job I've ever seen! I was thinking of being Marie Antoinette for next Halloween so thank you so much! By the way what is te name of that song? my sister and I were dancing to it!

  • Hahaha.... that's great!

The songs are listed in the description text to the right of the video. Click on the "more info" button. it's all there!

  • Oh wow, this is wonderful, thank you <3 !

I'm a Lolita (the Japanese fashion, has nothing to do with the literal definition of that word) and I usually wear my make-up somewhat like that but once I get that Marie Antoinette print One-Piece dress I'm lusting after I'll definitely try this hairdo!

    ~

  • That's so badass! I'm doing that next Halloween!

One question though--that poufy hair thing, I think you referred to as a "rat" or "wrap" (correct me if I'm wrong...) what exactly is it and where can you get one?

  • It's a "rat". Check out Johnny Lavoy's video... it shows up as the second video here, in the related videos to the left. He talks about making one.

  • really good, i have to be marie antionette for school

  • aww that is cool

  • beautiful!

  • thank you so much for uploading this!!

i have been trying to get this hairstyle for a while

now i just have to wait for my hair t grow in order to do it!

i love all your videos too!

  • oh my god thank you so much for posting this..im doing a play in a few weeks and we have to have that hair style and make up!!!

  • i like it its so nice

  • Wow!

  • the song in the beginning..WHAT IS THAT/???? i love it

  • Music used in this video:

    * Comment Te Dire Adieu- Francoise Hardy

    * C'est Pas D'Ma Faute- Brigitte Fontaine

    * Samba Saravah- Pierre Baruoh

    * Cartes Postales- Yves Montand

  • wtf I never posted that hmmm

  • That's strange! Maybe you were still logged on. YouTube remembers the last person logged on.

  • Maybe like a bro or sis posted it

  • This makeover is very good, well done. Honey x

  • what kind of curl iron did you use on her hair? It made it soo siny! xx

  • Ummm.... I think it's a Vidal Sassoon curling iron.

  • that must have been heavy on her head..no?

  • It was awkward, but surprisingly not uncomfortable. At first Megan remarked it felt strange, but then after some time, it was ok.

  • Your really good at what you do.

  • gorgeous!!! if you don't mind i'd want you to make smoky eyes for a night party. Your makeups are great! regards

  • Take a look at my smokey eyes video (I've done 2 of them because the quality is bad in the first one). That's how I wear my smokey eyes out in the evening. Also you could do the 1920s flapper look, minus the crazy eyebrows and red lips.

  • wow that is sooo nice

  • gorgeous!!!

  • Absolutely amazing! 5 stars! Love how you did her majeup!

  • You should come to London to do makeup, I style for some BBC shows like Dancing on Ice where they have very extravagant makeup! It's lots of fun ;)

  • I love it! Thank you for the demo!
