pete carroll's goal every year is to win the pac 10 and make the rose bowl because of the 2003 season. they were number 1 and should have played the ship but went to 3 and didn't, therefore had to split being national champions.

oklahoma was number 1 but they lost the big 12 ship to kansas st. 35-7. that put usc at #1 at the end of the season. but because oklahoma had a much tougher schedule than lsu and usc, they stayed number in bcs rankings and since lsu's was slightly better than usc's, the ship was between ou and lsu. however, lsu beat ou and usc beat michigan in the rose bowl and usc got the ap national title. look it up if you're still confused.
