This machine never made it into production. It was designed at the behest of Timberjack by Plustech in Finland. When John Deere bought Timberjack the project was scrapped.
@webmastertool It's better than cutting down even more trees to make a road for an bigger machine, and it reduces erosion. But we all appreciate the irony.
Wot a kickass machine ! All u wankers who hve no idea wot it's like to go to work each day hoping u come home alive would appreciate the engineering that's gone into a machine like this

Shut those mills down. No more fuel for those god damned logging machines. No more clear cutting of those beautiful trees and disturbing the natural order of life. uclit, take your machine (with you in it) and drive it over a cliff.
you just don't have a clue do you . im sure you live in a house with wood so don't get all self righteous. and if your worried about fuel stop huffing so much.

You a damned slave for the banks and you know it. They only excuse you got is to hide behind machines. Your a slave. Nothing more. The banks own you and those damned machines. Shut those damned logging mills down!
im sure bugs weigh a good deal less than this, even when scaled right. plus one of the selling points for the machine were that it has minimal soil impact. all that weight through only 2 of its legs and she'd impact plenty...
As with all my youtube comments; at the 1 year mark I will completely disagree with myself. At the two year mark I see my own complete idiocy! Leg movement algorithm? What do I know about algorithms? Or for that matter working with large AWESOME HEXAPODS! It's a damn fine machine, and I had no place criticizing it's sexy gams or grace.
@quietthomas dude.. your honesty is a rare, real and genuine treat!!! especially when it comes to the sausage swinging contest that seems to reign supreme in the youtube comment section... it IS a damn fine machine... it makes me sad when i consider the fact that i grow older, and technology continues to go forth and multiply!!!
the damage done to the forestground by wheeled timber harvesters is enormous. this machine instead does nearly no damage at all, like horses, which are, for the same reasons, sometimes still in use for moving timber today.
Oh, like men will care what the environment looks like during a war? NO way. Wheels provide a more manueverable surface, and faster. But yes, I appreciate the weird tech that was built. I can't wait till they have 2 legged tanks like in th game
The walking configuration is also great for tramsit on steep terrain. Amd I am not a hardcore environmentalist hypocrite who wants to prevent global warming and drives around in a hummer or an SUV.
i saw a documantary about this kinda robotics. some of designers are says "we should copy nature. nature did well and we have to copy it..." and another group says "no. we can design something new and better."
oh well the copy nature idea is interesting. I just still can't believe that machine in the vid exist! It looks so cool. What documentary is that you're talking about?
Good grief, this reminds me of the thunderbird episode where there's a machine very similar in design cutting down trees that falls into a crater, unreal.
Beats having to build a frigging road. Besides it's going downhill on a pretty steep slope in the middle of a forest. No ones gonna be flooring the pedal in anything in that situation.
this shit is fucking slow

@quadarinxxx its in the woods....
AskJoe1 1 year ago
@AskJoe1 i can see that, but can it go any faster?
what is it ment to do. just be a cool robot?
quadarinxxx 1 year ago
@quadarinxxx yeah, sure, John Deere spend millions developping it, just to upload a video in Youtube later....
and it can drive at 400 m/ph. In fact, there will be no cars at Nascar anymore, they will be driving those crickets robots next year.
guizawa 1 year ago
@quadarinxxx It's not like the tree is going to outrun it
JBnotthescotch 8 months ago
It says in description that the machine is to reduce the logging roads, so how many tonnes it´s can carry?
Cause machinery and loggers are able to work with no roads but roads are needed to get timber out from the woods, so how much the cricket can carry?

The leg movement algorithm is fucked. Bugs can have at least 3 legs off the ground and have a base rate of 4 legs moving when traveling somewhere.

Because wheels do more damage to the environment.
