  • Fascinating conversation. One of the most interesting points to me was when Elseberg pointed out the language factor that the US military took into account the most what the people who spoke English had to say. I've always theorized that if you learn the language of the people, you learn their real feelings. You also have to change a small part of yourself. Be convinced by their way of life and step away from any goals of showing them a better path.

  • I think Iraq, Afghanistan and Iran ... and the whole Islamic mosque-state worldwide confederation is a different thing from Viet Nam. At least I would have to hear a lot of facts from Ellsberg to prove to me it is the same.

I do think it is folly and possibly suicidal folly that did this on borrowed money, but we did it for a reason that way, and it is to control the American people. Oue behind the scenes leaders and corporations are just as dangerous as Islamic fundamentalism.

  • @str8guerillaz

I think the reason more people don't speak out is because of the bonds formed among the elite ruling class, and the priviliges/prestige/economic benefits that come from staying in elite circles of power rather than speaking out and becoming a pariah...It's certain once you speak out you will never get within those elite circles of power again...Chomsky offers good insights on this...as do "classical liberals" Ayn Rand, Freidman, and Adam Smith. Pure profit motive/selfish desire.

  • I think Matt Hoh is still a little brain washed from his army training. Comparing American to the Russian he says that the Russians fought a brutal, brutal war and the Americans are the most disciplined army in the world. Watch some of the winter soldier stories and you get the sense that the Amercans too are just killers. A disciplined army would check intelligence before dropping a bomb on a village or a wedding, or an ally. Tell me white phosphorus at Fallujah is not brutal, what about DU.

  • The point of the video seems to be that the important issue is to understand the people not understand yourself. That is understand the people, their history and their culture.

  • Went to see his Ellsberg's documentary, as it premièred in my country at my university. Extremely one-sided, but very interesting nonetheless.

  • I would have liked to have the subject of heroin smuggling covered in the video. Why did heroin become more plentiful, cheaper, and stronger when we had boots on the ground in Afghanistan? Look up Pete Brewton here on youtube for his 1992 interview regarding the links to CIA, George H. W. Bush, the looting of banks and why we are now in 2 wars of occupation. -Steven G. Erickson

P.S. there are US victims of the official US drug lords, google my name

  • Hoh talks to much in this video, I would like to hear more from Ellsberg; even in old age, the guy has a towering intellect.

  • 110% agree. Ho should take listen from Ellsberg. We'd all be better for it.

  • Great video.

I've heard talk of encouraging a "reconciliation" betweeen the two factions. That seems to be the only way to go. Let the UN oversee it, and let's get the hell out.

  • Quite simply an Oil Grab... and a pipeline through Afghanistan. Of course it looks good on paper... What they were thinking because we could have bought everyone an electric car by now.

  • Yes, but the money that went to the war went to the private contractors and corporations. And the benefit of the new oil and pipeline goes to corporations. So from their perspective its win-win but for the tax payer its loose-loose.

Tax payers pay for the oil at least twice. Once is money and blood, and second in money and freedom (freedom because every dollar they pay for oil they the corporations have another .10 dollar to buy politicians, laws, etc ).

  • - time to leave Afghanistan, I know the whole Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran puzzle is more complicated than I could ever fully understand - I still think leaving Afghanistan is a better choice than 'doubling down' on the bet my country has already made

  • Wow, I disagree with almost everything that Hoh says.

American prosperity is worth innocent lives and the lives of American troops!? Nonsense!

The US did not prop up dictators around the world for the last 60+ years!? How exactly do you think Saddam got into and kept power, Hoh!? The US government, baby!

This kid has been living under a rock!

That said - we need to get out of Afghanistan.

  • Hoh didn't denied that the US has prop up dictators around the world during the cold war. What he meant was that this was not the reason for winning against the Soviet Union.

  • Ok, I've listened to it again and I stand corrected. But I then have to ask - what is his point in bringing up that aspect? We're not at war with another superpower here. You can't rule out that propping up Karzai will keep the Taliban and Al Quaeda out of Afghanistan by his argument alone.

Thanks for pointing that out though I still fail to see the current relevance of it in either regard actually but we've all seen what happens when we prop up dictators.

We should get the hell out!

  • I think Hoh wanted to point out that propping corrupt leaders like Karzai and to occupy countries where the US troups are not wanted isn't going to help defeting the Al Qaida. He pointed out the example of the Soviet Union which was not defeated by combat troops, but because they had inferior ideals. And if I understood it correctly he is suggesting that the Al Qaida should be too defeated by similar methods.

  • The elite get to make money and reduce the population. It's a win win for them. That's why forever war. Next will be space wars. These dark age throwbacks will always find someone they want dead. Our blood, their money. Always been that way. Time to wake the hell up.

  • great job

  • This interview should be seen by lots of people. It will change some minds, for sure.

  • I know some many people that need to see this

  • It would been be cheaper and more human if we had just packed-up all noncombatants and brought them to America.

  • Keep up the outstanding work!

  • 20:11

that could be a psyop, weapons and their markings are an important aspect of warfare. an afghan of a certain age will recognize a russian helicopter even if it's painted in american colors. the colors of the new occupier, on the weapons of the old, compounds the insult to the afghans.

it could be deliberate, an attempt to dispirit the afghans. that's how psyops work.

  • Matthew Hoh did the right thing, but he's still spouting copious amounts of bullshit. I hope people can parse out the bull from the truth.I wish Ellsberg had been more challenging, but he does get his points across in his soft-spoken style. Thanks BNF and the two for a very interesting interview.

  • Thanks goodness I'm not the only one hearing this!

  • BraveNewFilms Always Putting out the Truth Big ups respect
