What's wrong with calling movies films? That's the proper terminology...I actually think the word "movie" sounds stupid. You can call movies films and not be a pretentious Starbucks-lurking hipster. SHEESH!
@kelthanius Film is the media that the moving picture, or "movie" is recorded on. The movie itself is what you're actually watching unless you're sitting in the projection room watching the film loop through.
@Cowboy144 Don't be prejorative, film and movie means the same thing, unless you are talking about film stock. In which case you would still call it film stock. You record a movie onto film? That makes no sense.
I hate mcdonalds. The majority of the workers there are convicts that are on work release. They skeeve me out. Tatts, missing or rotted teeth, dirty uniforms. Once, a cook came out of the bathroom wearing his rubber gloves. He went right back to cooking. I watched and walked out!!!
@saveusrecycle Yeah, you are in for a surprise when you go to a fancy restaurant and think they don't do the same thing. I worked at a 4 star Hilton where the chef's teeth were rotted out from too much crack cocaine.
And you are an ignorant person to stereotype... If anything, Mcdonald's employees work infront of you; ever wonder what people at applebees do back there? I don't guess, I know... and you don't want to.
Hmmm, a McDonald's commercial parodying artificiality? That's rich. Well hey, if Big Oil companies can sell themselves being 'green', why the heck not McDonald's promoting their authenticity. Hooray for styrofoam and mass-produced double-salt sandwiches!
haha... death to stupid snobby cappuccino-drinking hipsters.
MaddieKittie, the problem with people who go to starbucks half the time is they're trying to create the image of being intelligent by studying there with a cup of strong tasting overly-priced coffee. These fake people hardly shower, have goatees, wear turtlenecks with courdoroy pants, scarves, and listen to indie music. They also love to ride bikes and talk about how much they want to suck al gore's dick.
I'd like to point out that Starbucks is never once mentioned in this commercial. And believe it or not... There is more Coffee shops out there than starbucks. I work a little mom and pop type Coffee Shop that has been in business years before Starbucks even posted up in our City.
All this commercial does is to take coffee from being something "trendy" to something everyone can enjoy
McDonald's Coffee is the best available at any fast food restaurant. I just think they sell more of it so it's usually fresh during the day. Dunkin Donuts is acceptable as well. If you really want to sample some great coffee, find yourself a cup of fresh-brewed New Orleans-style coffee (with Chicory). Luzianne is good.
These commercials are ridiculous. First, who said you have to be highly educated and have intelligent discussions to drink Starbucks coffee? Second, what is wrong with being highly educated or having intelligent discussions or reading books? Did I miss that memo?
@cosmolilly Yeah, and- get this- I'm Italian, and I once ordered a "macchiato" at this trendy little independent coffee shop polluted with snooty hipsters. I told the little hipster I want a "macchiato" (pronouncing it properly, in Italian). She looks at me a second too long, and then finds an excuse to use "macchiato" in a sentence, pronouncing it with an American accent (as if to correct me!). I'm standing there thinking, I think I know Italian just a LITTLE better than you do, my lady.
These ads appeal to the lowest common denominator. They put down jazz, culture and being different and praise sitting on the couch watching football, reality TV and hip hop.
Inside a Starbucks smells like coffee while McDonalds smells like grease and rotten dead animals.
Actually, this ad is out to appeal to those who despise pretentious dicks with their heads up their ass. People who buy Starbucks tend to fit that description. I think this is a great commercial. Sure, the food at McDonalds is not the healthiest, but no cappucino or latte is.
I don't get that at all. You're saying someone who likes jazz is a pretentious dick and someone who likes hip hop and reality TV is somehow better?
I don't see Starbucks putting anyone down in their ads while McDonalds and Dunkin Donuts are obssesed with Starbucks.
I think it's fine to like either Starbucks or McDonalds or both but for them to put down people who like jazz over hip hop is more pretentious than any Starbucks ad.
Where in my comment did I mention Jazz, Hip-Hop or reality TV? Besides, it is not as if people flock to Starbucks for Jazz anyway. They go so that they can purchase over-priced drinks and walk around with the label intentionally facing outward so that everyone can see that they went to Starbucks. I have no problem with Starbucks -- only people who go to Starbucks (most of them anyway).
One of McD's ads a girl said she was listening to jazz and watching science/ nature shows but since she switched to McD's she back to hip hop and reality TV. Is that something to be proud of? Sounds more like the dumbing down of America.
I see the same working class slobs like myself in Starbucks as anywhere else. I like the music, the smell and the coffee. I couldn't care less who sees me and I don't know anyone else who does either, it's an urban legend.
Just to summarize everything I said in a concise manner... By saying that you're somehow superior to those snobs who go to Starbuck's you're being a snob yourself.
Frankly, you developing such strong feelings towards people who simply prefer to get their coffee products from Starbuck's over other places screams of a major inferiority complex.
Some people prefer spending their time in college studying, some getting wasted at frat parties. It's just a matter of personal preference. Let it be.
So when I called MOST starbucks customers ostentatious dicks I was attacking THOSE ostentatious dicks -- and not intellects. Just the same, enjoying football (or hanging around average Joes) does not automatically make you a cerebral lightweight.
I not once suggested that people with intellect are pretentious assholes. I made that statement concerning people who buy over-priced and over-hyped coffee and then annoyingly carry themselves with an air of arrogance. An intellectual means exactly the same to me as it does to you. That being said, simply walking into a Starbucks is not inevitably indicative of intellect.
I agree with Randino and spillaspella. You sound like you have some kind of insecurity to assume most people in Starbucks are ostentatious assholes and you have a problem with people who go there. I go there once a week or so and I just see people getting a coffee on the way to work or school, I don't feel any of that stuff you are going on and on about.
Who ever said walking into Starbuck's means you are more intellegent? The only one hinting at that is McDonalds.
And what is overpriced? Large coffee at Starbucks in Boston is $2.05 while a large at Dunkin Donuts is $2.15. What is it at McDonalds, maybe $1.49? You do get what you pay for.
Convenience store and gas station coffee often sits for hours not to mention drinking coffee made by someone handling gasoline isn't always worth saving half a buck.
Palin was a an absolute farce and an embarassment (so please keep from attempting to draw any comparisons between me and her). She took all working-class men and women and caricatured them into idiots who are completely incapable of thinking for themselves. Of course, I will concede that many of her supporters were, in fact, just that. But enough with that digression, I was not one of them.
If you go back and read my comments I never lumped ALL Starbucks customers into one group (because not all of them are complete asshats). However, many of them are. Inferiority Complex? Really? It cannot be that I just am just truly and genuinely annoyed with most Starbucks customers? You made the assumption that I am an average Joe [the Plumber kind of dumbass]simply because I thought the commercial made a great point.
I much prefer to buy my coffee at the gas station or make it at home; does mean I bear mundane stupidity? I relate to the guys more at the end of the commercial than at the beginning? Does that mean that I possess not even a modicum of intellect? Will people like me really lead to America's downfall?
I never put down Starbucks ads. Starbucks runs great ads (getting people out to vote and to volunteer) but many of their latte drinkers are pricks who think their shit smells like roses. McDonalds never puts Starbucks down in their ad -- at least not blatantly. They simply allow everyone else to make the assumption that Starbucks is filled ostentatious assholes ... and everyone does so easily -- which says a lot about people at Starbucks (and it has nothing at all to do with Jazz or Hip-Hop).
McD's ads put down jazz and educational tv, as if you are a pompous ass if you enjoy that. Great message to send to kids.
I recently went to Starbucks and heard some very deep cuts from James Brown and Elvis, does that make one a snob to enjoy that?
If they want to stereotype, people who go to McD's tend to be more obese than average yet they don't have fat people in their ads which is hypocrisy. Their food has enough grease and salt to clog the Holland tunnel.
Also, ironically enough you think that because you're an average Joe you're somehow better than all those "assholes" who go to Starbuck's which happens to be the definition of being a pretentious dick.
It's very much like Sarah Palin exulting the virtues of being a small town American and how that's somehow better than being from an urban center. Simply by doing this she was promoting herself as superior, something that she supposedly saw as a negative in people from the big cities.
I think these ads are funny, but they certainly do have a message that somehow being an average Joe the Plumber kind of a dumbass is better than being an intellectual. The latter word to me means an intelligent, educated person while you perceive it as a pretentious dick / ostentatious asshole. Such perception (mundane stupidity viewed as a positive) is the downfall of this country and the reason it's falling further and further behind.
I like watching football, sitting on the couch and watching football... sitting on the couch and eating a bag of disgusting greasy food and watching football... Jazz is bad, reailty TV is good...
Does anyone know the name of the guy with the green shirt in the commercial...the one who says "I like sitting and watching football." He's soooooo hot! Would love to find out his name to see if he's done other TV commercials.
Go f**k yourself twolves! I'm only complementing the guy on his looks. I'm not looking to track him down and stalk him. Moron! Get a f**kin' life, dumbass!
Let me tell you something, 90% of everything is CRAP. Beyond a certain point, you don't need to buy into useless marketing gimmicks designed to part you with your money. They now actually have a $14 bottle of water called "Cloud Juice" (another STUPID marketing gimmick) they claim is "pure" rainwater (whooohooo!). I'm sick and tired of having to work longer hours so I can buy JUNK to make someone else money. I am a pure pragmatist now, and can afford to work part time.
What exactly is a handcrafted cappuccino? And why is that a selling point? So some poor minimum wage teenager "handcrafted" my cappuccino... yeah, that's enticing.
It pretty much says if you eat at McDonald's your a typical uncultured, obese, stupid American who spends their time watching reality shows and reading gossip magazines and eating unhealthy/processed food.
What most worries me is that people see this as funny and nothing else.
That's not what it's saying at all. It's saying "you can have the same stuff you can have at the other place without the bloody pretense". Pretension/arrogance/and snobbery is not the equivalent of intellect, contrary to popular belief. Shedding the facade does not equal "obese, stupid American". I think it is you who pretty much says these things, not the commercial.
Oh, I wasn't aware I had to be arrogant and snobby in order to get into a starbucks. I guess the handfull of times Ive been there the bouncer was on break.
Mcdonalds now has a commercial where two women contemplate whether Paraguay is a country or not. Really?!
Now you seem like a smart guy dummy, but your not gonna sit there and tell me you don't see whats going on.
I love starbucks, but they're sayign that it's a rip off, and it's true. and also, I always see people coming in like they're fashionable or a party. and it's a coffee shop
Yeah! YEAH! How DARE I be a multi-faceted individual?!
I wanna throw myself neatly into a typical "dumb male" stereotype and never come out! My Neanderthal brain can't handle "films" and sports simultaneously, and I'm so glad McDonald's is telling me to choose.

What exactly is a handcrafted cappuccino? And why is that a selling point? So some poor minimum wage teenager "handcrafted" my cappuccino... yeah, that's enticing.

These new commercial are dumb.
It pretty much says if you eat at McDonald's your a typical uncultured, obese, stupid American who spends their time watching reality shows and reading gossip magazines and eating unhealthy/processed food.
What most worries me is that people see this as funny and nothing else.

i mean you could say mcdonalds is part of the american culture haha not that i eat it but kind of true
jester0773 3 years ago

Really?!
Now you seem like a smart guy dummy, but your not gonna sit there and tell me you don't see whats going on.
jiggy410 3 years ago
oh stop worrying.
I love starbucks, but they're sayign that it's a rip off, and it's true. and also, I always see people coming in like they're fashionable or a party. and it's a coffee shop

ya gotta be kidding man, i think its funny because it makes fun of the stereotype that is called the "upstuck artsy person"
because they dress and act apart from american culture (like mcdonalds) does not make them intelligent

Yeah! YEAH! How DARE I be a multi-faceted individual?!
I wanna throw myself neatly into a typical "dumb male" stereotype and never come out! My Neanderthal brain can't handle "films" and sports simultaneously, and I'm so glad McDonald's is telling me to choose.
Now let's watch some FOOBAW!

None of the stuff they mentioned has anything to do with intelligence, so chill out.
