  • try to put a nokia 3310

  • @chalogin

That would be entertaining. Test them with knives, hammers, fire, explosives, bullets...

"1 month ago", wow the Nokia memes have hung around longer than I anticipated.

  • 1:46

how dare he fucking mess up that line

  • love this show.

  • well. if a coin can stop a bullet then nothing to say about swords, blades.

  • Again, why the fuck are they clumsely trying everything on their own, when a sword expert might have easely penetrated the book.

  • That book on the chest reminds me of Ned Flanders and his bible. xD

  • cool!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've never seen any school or style or ryu of swordsmanship that encompasses an overhand "icepick" type stab. If they were going to do it, they should have used a real Tsuki or European fencing style stab.

  • 2:10 "problem is the body is soft.." - points to boob and asian guy stares like a pro

  • antique coins are softer due to the silver in the coins.

  • she' cute.

  • maybe im wrong but you dont use a sword of that type like that you will swing it to make cuts in the ennemie not trying to touch it with the edge of the sword because saber like this sword were mainly use by cavalry

  • Id rather put my small dictionary than to use coins to take to bus in chest pocket :)

  • il put a bt phone book in my pocket just to be on the safe side lol

  • time to have an ancient book in my pocket all the time

  • "This sword is worth about 10,000 dollars."

"What are we doing with it?"

    LOL

  • lol 0:25 squeesy squeesy

  • My 4th grade teacher's relitive was shot in the chest in war, but he had a bunch of pennies in his pocket, so the bullted hit the penny, bounced down and hit his fott, instead of heart. So lucky.

When he died, they put the penny with the dent on his grave.

    ~Imawesome734

  • @imawesome734 thats bullshit pennys are zinc coated copper, they wouldnt stop a high powered bb gun even

  • @CaveJohnsonAperture 1st: Learn some grammer.

2nd: A penny isn't enough, but many pennies are.

  • @imawesome734 sigh... Still it would take hundreds of them and im sorry but you say "shot in war" any bullet shot during a war would go through any amount of pennies in a pocket, plus soldiers dont go around with pockets of pennys... they dont go into combat with lose change

  • Awesome! :)

  • listen at 15-16 in the beginning that guy and grant says duff

  • I own a civl war sword that is just like that.

  • For the record civil war swords were slashing not stabbing weapons

  • Damn, was hoping for some sword stoppage ninja style.

  • "do! there is no try" XDD lol, i love how Grant remembers all the famous Star wars quotes!

  • yeah it could save you from 1 hit but what if the atacker is stabbing you again again elsewere :-j

  • press 7 for frog noise lol!!

  • the why the tell you to read lol ahahahah

  • 0:26 Grant has a perv moment

  • oh noo, He stabbed the ham :O

  • omg press 8 repeatedly and grant will perve

  • @TheSupergabi9 nothing happens when i press 8

  • Skip Ad 0:00

  • 0.36 bj doll:P

  • the penis ; mightier than sword

  • Well, they could try using the sword right and slashing. The grip they're using I don't even.

  • now try it with a presthly sharpened blade cause we all know the mythbusters just have to overdo the end and feed us out entertainment *cough* *cough* when all fail blow it the fuck up

  • Another proof that books save your life while money kills you!

  • Watch My Full Episode Of MythBusters

    /watch?v=WIPTxWc96gk

  • paper and.. i think leather is stronger than metal vs a sword o_o..wasn't expecting that honestly..but then the book was pretty thick...

  • That myth is crap because he didn't thrust like a civil soldier would and I'm sure that they used bayonets as a stabbing weapon rather than a sword. A sword is inconvenient because of the gun... unless someone can correct me that bayonets weren't created until later?.. I forget. x_x

  • @Kibikayuki bayonets existed a that time

  • Twilight, it wouldn't save you.

  • How much did they spend to do this experiment??

  • They should have used a katana. would stabbed straight through that book

  • @xanatosw Not necessarily. The civil war sword is thinner and has a more acute tip and is more likely to stab it deeper than a katana. The only thing a katana has going for it is that it is more stiff; meaning if it didn't stab all of the way through it, the katana would most likely bend out of shape.

  • @ChrisRiley93 a katana is flexible but it wont mean that it would permanently bend after one stab at a coin :P

  • @xanatosw At a coin, probably not. But your first comment said book.

  • @ChrisRiley93 oh haha my bad XP

  • @xanatosw a katana is not a thrusting weapon

  • @torgy91766 true. it was designed to be a slashing weapon but it still is a decent thrusting weapon

  • @torgy91766 Good they're not using a katana then.

  • @torgy91766 Erm yeah, sorry. Didn't get that this was an answer to someone else. Stupid me.

  • I always believed books were my friends- they risked themselves for the soldiers.

  • if you had slashed like the sword was intended to do the coins woulda stopped it.

  • who gives a shit, who's gonna stab my chest pocket with a katana? who asked for this myth to be busted? why dont you see what stops a bullet? T. Roosevelt had an assassin's bullet go through his glasses case, then his folded speech, then enter his chest, but it did not pierce his lung.

  • @terminamator

About 12 Pizza boxes can stop a bullet if I remember correctly. Well, the boxes with pizza in them, and inside the pack Pizza men/women carry to keep them warm. ^_^

  • 1st the pocket was already broken before the stab. 2nd male chests are not soft, we dont have breasts!!!

  • @fermixx some guys doo they are called "Man Boobs" xD

im luckly not to have em lol =D

  • from this day on ill always wear old book

  • what an idiotic show ... the con might not slip

  • @xxSookaxx Its coins, not convicts they put in that pocket..

And mythbusters is not a stupid show.

  • @Ugleskjegg i meant coin

  • wait thats a cavalry sword. why not just use it the way it was intended to be used as a hacking tool. i mean seriously, the way that sword was designed was not for thrusting. it was made for hacking. your on a horse driving down ward with the strike. to see it in action might as well watch the movie glory. its used there or the duelist.

  • @pullingfabio And yet it is not curved enough to be perfect for slashing, which makes me think it was intended for both uses. Of course, they had no idea how to use a sword and their technique sucked which could be a factor. Aaaand don't watch movies for accurate sword uses :)

  • @pullingfabio Sometimes it was best to use it similar to a lance, if you had better reach than your opponent you could shish-kabab him on your way past rather than trying to slash at someone who's trying to do the same to you. That said, it is a 'sometimes' suggestion, lancing somebody usually means having to go back and fetch your sword, theirs too if you plan on specialising in such an action.

  • @pullingfabio A stab would impart more force than a hack

  • @mrturtlebobington

Yes, but a Civil War sword was used for hacking and slashing. Stabbing not so much, but I'm sure it happened.

  • @pullingfabio stab has a lot more piercing power than slash so if stab didnt get through slash wouldnt have a chance at all

  • @jeppikah LOL i know what u mean

  • i wouldv laughed my ass off if Grant tried doing some asian battle cry thing XD!!

  • they should try it with bullets

  • @MegaFreak4you i forgot where, but they did try the bullets on the book and it didnt go through the book completely either.

  • You could use more coins. Maybe?

  • why use the antique $10k sword for test? and their stabbing technique sucked

  • 1st of all the sword isnt made for stabbing its made for slicing. you want a dagger or a roamn gladius for stabbing. Any straight solid blade with a solid central core. not anything like what you see here

  • @anthonyww713 That sword is very much made for both stabbing and slashing.

  • Hey kari I did not see that demonstration properly why don't you take of your shirt and do it :)

  • @Ellrox77 yeah I KNOW WHAT TO USE INSTEAD OF THE SWORD..........HAHAHA

  • @xXFadeAwayNade lol they could cover her in that balistic gel, that would be nice.

  • Who stabs like that?

  • This, kids, is why we read.

  • Grant: yh slide away. Mmmm boob

  • man why wouldn't they just use thin pieces of wood. You can't stab through wood easily.

  • I feel bad for that dummy...

  • im gonna start carrying one of my harry potter books in my pocket.. those shits could block a bullet, fuck a sword.

  • I guess books ARE good for you.

  • Venom t-shirt?? YEAH! The chick is metalist! YEAH!

  • Look at 2:16 is just priceless xD.

Anyway this test has one big flaw.

This sword is used for slashing not stabbing. So the book is not going to help you a lot when somebody slashes your arm off...

  • @MadeinHell2

So? Fill your sleeves with books.

Just become a walking library and you'll be fine.

  • @Vire70 I'm pretty sure that stuffing every inch of my clothing with books would make the "walking" part kinda impossible xD

  • @ 2:16 Grants thinking: "your gonna have to take your shirt off and show me" LOL

  • 2:16 looking at the boobs hahahahahahahah OLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO!!!!!!XD!!!!!!!!

  • scheiß werbung

    man

  • HUH?? o.....k

  • Yes... too much give in the breasts, she is right.

  • coin can deflect a musketball

  • When Carrie starts explaining why the coin slipped on herself...

    ...Grant watches.

  • @ProtonFilms

hahahaha i saw that too lol

  • *blink* *blink* STARE

  • @ProtonFilms haha

  • much better then mythbusters3000's video

  • LOL grant is totally perving at 2:16

  • @jeppikah HAHA that made me laugh harder than it should've thanks for pointing that out.

  • whos grant?

  • @jeppikah lol didn't know perv was a verb

  • @jeppikah lol. u r right. i tracked his line of sight, went right down there. Sneaky sneaky

  • @jeppikah

Well, she did point to her tit and then touch it. i think he had a right to glance for a second or two.

  • GIVE ME BOOK ARMOR!

  • I'm just glad I was the owner of that sword!

  • iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

  • #1 - That's not a Katana you dumb ass motherfuckers, they mention that at the very beginning. And I think the person who valued that sword must have had some qualifications and experience with antiques...

#2 - There is no spoon.

  • I gotta cringe every time I see them testing swords....especially this one.

  • i'll make you cry. they broke this sword while they were chopping the ham latter on.

they broke a $10,000 while cutting some pig

  • Is a katana a Civil War sword? This is a Civil War myth.

  • A katana was invented before the Civil War

  • Then it really doesn't apply to the myth. I think they actually need a sword like they used mainly in the war and was maybe designed during the war. :\

  • @DeltaPhi79 You mean like the sword they're using....?

  • it depends, if your looking at the Japan Shogun civil wars, yes, they would of used it on each other. But more or less it was mostly used throught time as a regular weapon

  • Comment removed

  • Not only that, the myth is about an AMERICAN Civil War sword, and not a Japanese sword lol. People just don't get it.

  • katana? what katana? that was a U.S. Civil war cavalry saber, and its a slashing weapon not rly a piercing one like they where using it. so even if it didnt go through the book, your entire side would still have been sliced open

  • the book would be useful against a bayonet though. they should have used that.

  • yes not whool a knife would go right throught whool

  • @MaltaMetal if it cant get through point first a slash has no chance, so long as it hits

  • since when did the civil war have katana dumb shit why not listen b4 making a dumbass comment

  • @Vockie619 dumbass

  • They should do one on modern weopons like guns and knives i wonder how it would turn out

  • i would think a bayonet on the end of a musket would be more of a civil war type stap myth,

the sword look slike a cavalry sabre, which is a slash weapon, myth fail

  • i LOVE it how kary demonstrates on 2:12 ^^

  • VENOM T-SHIR! FUCKING HOT!

  • Your spelling of inaccuracy is inaccurate ;)

    But yeah, I agree.

  • she is fn hooooooot

  • not that much

  • why don't make an armors of antique books? lol

  • armor*

  • yeah, kari is soo hot!

  • @rocknrolldude3280 you aren't kidding.

  • Why stabbing with a saber? And from such an angle...

Most destructive strike is a deep cut, so was said by old european masters. The second one is a thrust.

Both don't require much skill to execute, but both has things to master. Thrust greatly exposes you, cut is easily stopped by armor, it's a science(you don't need a very good curved sword to cut effectively, in fact, a good swordsman can cut a tree branch with a straight wooden sword)

Read more. And start collecting coins.

  • why are people voting this down

sabers are slashing and cutting weapons, just look at the blade... look where the weight is

  • Ya need an Epee. Those are heavier for the tip and built for thrusting.

  • fuck me kari is hot

  • Never thought a book could safe a live... ah well :O

  • well in war as funny as it seems stabing motions are extremly rare because not only its easier to avoid it but it also decreases deffence of the stabber at a ridiculous amount ;)

  • Except that the bayonet was nothing BUT stab...

  • I wonder where you got that notion? Stabbing is much, much more effective as a killing method, since it aims for deep wounds that affect the organs, rather than incapacitating the enemy from pain, shock and bloodloss. It takes less ammount of power to stab, than to slash. To kill an enemy by slashing, you first need good skills, a VERY good curving sword, lots of power and lots of space. to kill by stabbing, you need less space, less power, a pointy object and not so much skills.

  • A stabbing/piercing weapon is very effective if it hits any vital organs, but it does take some skill to know how to thrust and where to aim. Also, just because it requires less space, doesn't mean it requires less power. Avoiding a single thrust isn't as hard as avoiding a wide strike, therefore the power is used to makes your thrust faster.

Slashing weapons don't aim to kill from small cuts, but rather from severing body parts.

  • Since Kari Byron has a Venom shirt on I wonder if she's a metal head?

  • and then theres always the fact that they would have to hit the book/coins. the chances of an attacker just happening to decide to attack where the book/coins are is pretty slim

  • they place them in key places, that mostley need protection, not to protect there hple body

  • What are you talking about!? Every soldier swathed himself in a layer of books, then a layer of coins taped to all his skin. It's history, duh!

  • and did that wok out to we, itwouldnt be vey good for combat, they wouldjust make letetr an steel aumour for that.

  • Coins were used to protect from a slashing motion, not stabbing.

  • this is a civil war sword, it's worth about ten thousand dollars so...

what are we doing with it. lol

  • I'd use both, just incase ^-^

  • ha, yea

  • nothing wrong in destroying a bible, though i got to admit it might not be thick enough.

  • How is there nothing wrong with Destroying the Bible?

  • bible usually has leather covers, though its pages seem to be a bit too thin to procted the dummys chest. dunno, must be the paper.

  • because... it is just a book, nothing more
