Guys, he's just practicing. That doesn't mean it's going to sound wonderful. If you're just practicing you can fool around with it as much as you want. Who knows, maybe its the video quality that makes it sounds the way it sounds. But you've seen him in concerts, he does an awesome job. I personally like this video, I think he sounds great.

@TheSaintofMocks Nah, that's more of a opinion type thing. It depends...if it's a STROKES song, then you seriously CAN'T use a pic....but if it's a song like FLW then you could use both. I like using a pic for Famous Last Words cause it sounds more powerful

@cameronj279 the music they play doesn't call for it, just because you're not doing bass solos every song doesn't mean you're no good, a good bassman plays to the song and doesn't play to show off, if all you're there for is to show off you need to leave the band because its silly. also i hate mudvayne so it wouldn't be doing you any favors.

@cameronj279 thats because people base a persons skill off the song writing no one cares if you can play fast and technical thats not what its about that kind of stuff is just a "let's see whose penis is bigger" competition that primarily only musicians of that instrument care about, when in reality its the least important thing about music. You can write a good solo for days and people won't care, write a good song or help write it in mikeys case and you're on the right track.

Um... you cover Fieldy. Sloppy-ass shitty tone grooveless Fieldy. If I wanted to show a fellow bassist how to NOT lock in with the drums, I'd show them a live Korn DVD. Sure, Mikey plays mostly running eighth notes, but at least they're consistent in-the-pocket eighth notes. He also does marginally noticeable things on the bass on songs like "Cubicles" and "You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison". And he actually has some midrange in his EQ...
@PJsessionz fieldy cut's all the mid's for a reason, 1. it creates a unique tone 2. if you're in a band with 2 guitarist's playing 7 strings tuned to Astandard, you're gonna need to do something to stand out as a bassist. Fieldy Isn't the best bassist and doesn't claim to be either. A lot of bassist's have to do something to stand out...and wether it is using effects, EQ tweaking or whatever, it's better than having the same tone and pretty much the same bassline as everybody else.
@cameronj279 I'd agree with you if there was something special about Fieldy's playing to begin with. Unfortunately, Mr. Arvizu can't afford trying to sound "unique" or whatever, since he's obviously not mastered the basics - namely, playing in the pocket. But the fact remains that he's far more valuable and functional in a rhythm section.

I never really hear his bass in any MCR songs, but you can tell that he IS playing. And in this video you can also tell that he MUST be pretty good! LOL =D
If you would like to hear the bass in MCR's songs, If you haven't heard them already I suggest listening to House Of Wolves, Kill All Your Friends and Give 'Em Hell, Kid. You can hear the bass pretty good in I'm Not Okay (I Promise) and also MCR's older stuff like Skylines And Turnstiles and Our Lady Of Sorrows.
You can't tell a person is a really good bassist, bass isn't a very present instrument in MCR's songs. Christopher Wolstenholme, from Muse, is an amazing bassist. I know it 'cause some Muse songs has Chris' bass and he plays really well. Sometimes the best musicians in the band are the bassist, but people won't realize it 'cause bass isn't really present in the rock songs. Metal songs maybe, but not in all the rock songs.
Does anyone know what model of bass he's playing on? I know it's a Fender but that's all. I'm looking for a new one see with a better sound than the one I have right now.
@xcatxcrazyx404 He normally plays a P-Bass but in this video it's a Jazz Bass, you can tell cause of the pickups and the way the body looks like it was built on a slant.

It's not that he plays with a pick, nor simple lines. It's the way he plays - amateurish. His left hand technique is horrible, and his right hand is too stiff, no smooth movements at all. He is definitely a bad bass player, as are most today's pop punk bassists.

All basses sound more rolling and bouncy when plugged in.
When Mike Dirnt was playing his unplugged, it sounded the same, yet he has some of THE BEST rolling basslines, like Longview, and Holiday.

I never really hear his bass in any MCR songs, but you can tell that he IS playing. And in this video you can also tell that he MUST be pretty good! LOL =D

If you would like to hear the bass in MCR's songs, If you haven't heard them already I suggest listening to House Of Wolves, Kill All Your Friends and Give 'Em Hell, Kid. You can hear the bass pretty good in I'm Not Okay (I Promise) and also MCR's older stuff like Skylines And Turnstiles and Our Lady Of Sorrows.

You can't tell a person is a really good bassist, bass isn't a very present instrument in MCR's songs. Christopher Wolstenholme, from Muse, is an amazing bassist. I know it 'cause some Muse songs has Chris' bass and he plays really well. Sometimes the best musicians in the band are the bassist, but people won't realize it 'cause bass isn't really present in the rock songs. Metal songs maybe, but not in all the rock songs.

It's not that he plays with a pick, nor simple lines. It's the way he plays - amateurish. His left hand technique is horrible, and his right hand is too stiff, no smooth movements at all. He is definitely a bad bass player, as are most today's pop punk bassists.
