I know people from Canada, and cousins's husband is French. They do not favor a socialist system, if we take the wealth possibilities out of a job that is highly stressful, bloody, and filled with difficulty, no one will want to practice. People aspiring to be doctors should not be discouraged. I say, with all of the countries out there doing the socialized care thing, why not move all of our socialists there. They can send us their freedom lovers, and we'll call it a day.
We need to bring back the "poll tax" only this time not to stop black people. In order to stop the parasites and the frauds, and to regain freedom, we need only people paying federal taxes the ability to vote, or just start smoking all the parasites, one or the other...This is always what happens when the poor majority are led by a shifty leftist/ populist, class warfare, and vast powerful federal government bent on making everyone poor so that noone gets ahead...can't make everyone rich...
well I guess I'll just respond by saying you are a foul human being, and unless you have something more to say than swearing and obscenity, I am going to put you in the not worth considering pile, just like everyone that just read your foul post! Back to the Acorn/SEIU office with you....
Your just another brainwashed fool who listens to the likes of beck and hannity, actually accept it as gospel. Wake up your not part of club, the gop uses people like you. They cant win on a single issue and they know it, so they resort to smear and fear. They are masters at it, it is a rich man's party and you my good sir are not invited to the club, they just want you to think that by wrapping the american flag around their discontent. Dont be a fool learn what side your bread is buttered on.
My bread is buttered by me, I make choices and live up to the consequences. My hard work and the fruits of it do not belong to anyone but me, and when you think about the democrats, I hope that you remember that for YEARS they dragged around the black community by offering handouts, offered the ponzi schemes of the century in medicare soc sec, medicaid, welfare, etc, and have kept people unmotivated and desperate! They have destroyed people for their own political ends. They suck worse!
Look I understand what you are saying believe me I do. The black community as a whole has a big problem with being lazy and breeding like flies. I just feel unfortunately they are here and are not going anywhere. Years ago the white man did not want to educate them, and look what we have. I feel they best way for society to not crumble any further is to try educate as many as possible. Now if they were all like Obama who happens to be very intelligent we would not be having this discussion.
The people you mentioned Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh, Levin, are not newcomers to the circus. They are a part of what I believe, I started listening back in 1992, I thought I was being a good American, paying my taxes, and trying to help people like the poor inner city types, just like my dad. But the cycle of poverty has not stopped, it's gotten worse, the more money we throw in, the more disappears, and with negative results. I believe it's time to stop, we are running short on time and money
As long as we continue to get rid of our industry in the guise of free trade it will get worse. Look at any 3rd world country and well, that is were we are headed. But right wing pundits dont really care because they will just live in their gated communities and hide from society. There are no easy answers but creating more division between the people are only going to make it worse indeed.
I don't think the labor unions are willing to go away any time soon, so we really can't compete any more in the open market, so I guess I will start looking for a house in a gated community, and stocking up more ammo....lol
Chris...the question you need to ask yourself is why have those manufacturing jobs disappeared? During the 30's we were a country of 1/3 consumption and 2/3 production. That 2/3 production is what got us out of the Great Depression. Today, we are 1/3 production and 2/3 consumption. Until we start making more of the things that people want or need, all this government spending is for nothing. And by need I mean something other than solar panels or wind mills.
Those jobs disappeared because the government pulled the rug out from under the workers in this country with their changes in trade policy. Free trade policies were crafted so that no (minimal) standards applied to labor or environmental policies of the country of production. This made it unfairly cheap to produce goods in other countries, thus jobs left this country.
Chris, I could not agree with you more. You basically have just said that government caused the problem. Yet as stated in your other comments for some reason you believe that government can now FIX the problem. Government is not the solution to the problem, government is the problem.
The gov created the problem by changing laws in favor of multinational corporations. The government can fix the problem by changing the laws to be in favor of labor and the environment. Gov in the right hands can be a major solution. Though I don't expect that sort of change from Obama.
Chris, just wondering if you've ever taken the time to read on the founding fathers. Having lived the life they did, they were well aware of how power eventually corrupts government. It's up to the people to be responsible. Thus we have our republic. Here's a bit from Jefferson.
Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.
First we have to accept that the founding fathers lived in a world that is completely different than the one we live in today.
Back then, government was the main power, but nowdays we have other powerstructures that I would argue are actually more powerful than government: corporations.
Gov needs to be held more accountable to the people than it is currently, but at least the gov is accountable to the people where as major corporations are not.
First off, you sound more and more like an early 20th century progressive with each post. I hope you don't also believe in eugenics like they did. Secondly, I'm guessing you believe the constitution is a living document and is not to be taken literally. That's a fundamental difference between people like you and me. Any more I get tired of hearing progressive garbage. Maybe we should let progressives have total control for 15-20 years and see the kind of shitbox we turn into.
The constitution is an out of date document. It was created for a world which no longer exists. It has many good and great ideas, but it falls short of the modern world.
Well, we have had pro-corporate globalists running the world for the past 25 or so years, and look at what has happened to this country. Wages are down, costs of living is up, people are working longer hours and not seeing the benefit of it.
Dan is increasingly right on the money when it comes to these issues. Really worked through rhetoric with strong integrity. Perhaps he should get into politics?
If I were rich, Id be buying myself citizenship on a tropical island in the Caribbean. Probably one of the same ones our generous congressmen use to shelter their wealth from the IRS.
The wall street journal has a interesting new campaign slogan for republicans this morning in opinion (The 0% Tax Rate Solution) or basically the poorest 60% pay nothing and the richest 40% pay 15% flat tax.
Why is it that right wingers never seem to care about government spending when it is going to kill people in countries sitting on top of massive oil reserves, but when the money is going to help americans they have a problem?
socialized health care, higher funding of education, funding of daycare programs, job creation programs; you know, stuff that meets the basic needs of people rather than stuff that just kills people.
Government funding particularly of the sciences in higher education will train the human captial needed to create new technologies. It is through these new technologies that sustainable jobs will be created. The government can also subsidize sectors like clean renewable energy to help spur r&d in those areas. Ultimately it is a race; we need to develop the technologies before other countries if we are going to profit off of them.
If those are viable economic avenues, what makes you think they wouldn't be explored without government aid? We are already importing our scientists from other countries despite the massive subsidies on higher education. Why is that? Could it be that government is incompetent, that it wastes money, and that in doing so it discourages Americans from being as productive as they could be?
Many avenues of research do not promise profits in the near enough future for any company to invest. If the government funds research in these areas so that they can get off the ground, then the private sector may beable to see the future profits and thus invest.
What is there inherent in government that is wasteful? There are issues with gov spending, but with careful oversight, those issues can be eliminated.
Most advancements in science are interpolations of previous advancements. These interpolations are mostly finding applications for the new discoveries and unlocking even further advancements. Because of this, most advancements pay off relatively quickly. Yes, there is a lot of research that does not pay off so quickly. These are either of the kind that are life long statistical analysis or testing "new phenomena". Very few of these projects are ever successfully useful. Ergo the lack of funds.
I did not watch the 20/20 vid: too long for me to be interested right now, though in the future i may watch it. The other one I did watch and disagree with large parts of it, but I need to do some research before making a good response to it.
Seeing that the cost of both education and health care are rising sharply while the average wage adjusted for inflation in this country is dropping, it shouldn't be a surprise that people are having a hard time paying for this stuff.
A couple of decades ago, people could skip school and make a decent living in factories, but now those jobs have disappeared. What choice is left?
How is the government going to provide these services? By what right does it attempt to do so? Why would it be more efficient for government, which produces nothing, to take command of the economy? Do you believe that goods and services are materialized because of whim? Do you not see how competition and the desire to make money is what drives people to create goods and services that are cheap and high quality?
Healthcare would be more efficient under gov control because you wouldn't have a corporate bureaucracy digging into people's history in order to find pre-existing conditions. Also people would be able to get treatment for small problems instead of waiting for them to develop into big problems.
Education (particularly in the sciences) does not benefit the individual as much as it benefits society: externality. The gov should boost funding to overcome that externality.
government is only a powerful tool for the masses to pull capital from the actual earners of wealth. People who want to see the wealthy "punished" under some bullshit new tax system must not really like freedom, government is aiming to drag everyone down, thus killing the American Dream for us and our posterity, America was a better place before the leftists got ahold of it! Now, thanks to lazy hippies, indigent immigrants, and pro communist unions, we are about to implode...what a shame.
Ya, we're about to implode like that damn socialist europe. Gee, free health care, 6 week paid vacations, highly subsidized education: it must be hell.
Interesting vid (bout half way through right now). I may make a response video regarding school vouchers. I support them as long as they have certain standards such as the voucher counts as all or nothing. That way schools aren't going to price people out of their schools.
No you would have government bureaucracy. I actually grew up with American government run health care. Not only does it run exactly the same as the HMOs, but after too many cost overruns, outsourced the plan to a private HMO. (I'm a military brat if you are wondering). And yes they DENY care and LIMIT care. Yes, you can have long wait times which totally goes against your point of catching problems when they are small. I had to wait a year between dentists, when I moved, with braces on.

I agree that it's inconsistent to decry massive domestic spending while at the same time supporting an overseas empire, but:
1 - If the host had asked Dan Mitchell to comment about the empire, I think he would have criticized that, too;
2 - Even if a person is inconsistent in this way, that doesn't mean that massive domestic spending is wise or justified.
