  • A brilliant movie and history!!!

  • I think the reason why this flopped is that just like the book, this movie is better enjoyed in a comfortable chair in your living room. As a blockbuster movie to excite and entertain with popcorn and a pop it's not that good.

  • That's freakin' awesome, had to be science fiction and had to be Lynch ;)

  • a remake of Dune would instantly Blow away all of Star Wars but Hollywood is cruel indeed for it will either fuck things up or put the worst director to do it (I highly hope they never make Micheal Bay oversee the production as he fucked my childhood favourite Transformers)

  • What a classic Sci - Fi xD

  • Are they making a new DUNE? I already know what this story is about.

I wonder how the FAG, film actors guild I mean WAG (writers actors guild) is going to link it to fit me. If it already isnt. (it is)

  • Meh...I hear planet Zeist is worse.

  • Extended version sucks... Stick with the David Lynch's final cut. Not the extended Alan Smithee version...

  • @dvsxavier i disagree.....the extended version explains a lot of things necessary for the story...have you read the books? my point is that people who haven't read the books will probably feel confused when watching the original.....

  • @majakovskij61 You should know this, but David Lynch disowned the extended cut. Frankly, I agree with him. I still feel his version is better.

Producer's shouldn't direct, that's why they're called producers. It's rare to have box office success like Geroge Lucas. Dune didn't make money much like Blade Runner. (You probably enjoy watching the producer's version of Blade Runner too.)

    You're free to disagree...

Frankly, I prefer the Directors' cut to Dune and Blade Runner.

  • @dvsxavier

yeah, I know....it's "Alan Smithee" who made the extended version....but with dune, the problem is deeper....david lynchs original version was a lot longer than the released version, but the company forced him to cut it, he did...but he also opposed the extended version, I'd die to see his original cut, which will probably never be released..

yeah I think i prefer the "final cut" of blade runner...

  • @majakovskij61 Movies adapted from books rarely hit the mark. It's NEVER a true adaptation. But there are films like the Fight Club, Shawshank Redemption, and even the Watchmen that are superbly directed and enjoyable to watch.

  • @dvsxavier but I don't think that movie adaptions even should be completely true, blade runner is hardly true to do androids dream of electric sheep....

  • Dune is essentially non-fiction. All you have to do is replace "Spice" with "Oil" and you have the 21st Century.

    ...Kinda.

  • @Kemonokami agree....it's a good allegory for both the oilwars and the oppression of arabs....

  • I just read reviews of this, sooo many bad reviews. 1 out 5 everytime. Must be really really bad

  • "spice-girls" hahahaha

  • #noalcierredunar ¡Vamos Cabros!

  • This looks fucking awesome!!!! Why isn't this more famous?? How is the movie? The trailer surley teases for a fantastic old-school sci-fi at its best!!!

  • @vetegrodd in my opinion, despite the somewhat tacky and 80's effects, it's the BEST science fiction movie ever...

it could help if you read the books (at least the first book) before you see it....cos the story is kinda intense and complicated....they released an uncut version which in many peoples opinion were more tedious, but I think it explains the plot a lot better....enjoy!

  • @vetegrodd I think it's not more famous because it was a disastrous flop, by box-office standards, though.....

needless to say, it's a cult hit, getting more and more followers, it may not reach up to blade runner standards, but hopefully close to it...

  • Christopher Nolan is the only person who could make a decent Dune adaptation.

  • this came before star wars.....

  • @annonimuz2 No it didn't. It came out well after Star Wars. This cult classic came out in 1984. Look it up mate.

Did you mean the movie or the book (cause the book was before Star Wars)?

  • This was a long ass movie

  • Thank You ;-) '

  • I haven't read the book or seen the movie but god does trailer make it look weird.

  • oh! the spice!!

  • The initiale lenght of the film was 4 hour long but Lynch was forced to cut it for a 2 hour long film and the result was a great but very confusing movie. And then there the even more misguided extended edition with an awful editing. But now there a fanedit called the Alternative Version which blend the two version for a more coherent and focused experience. And let me tell you, this is how dune should have been released back then.If u can watch the Alternative Version for the real deal.

  • David lynch is idiot he left Star wars for this? GOD

  • It's one of the best/worst, awesome/horrible, inspiring/unintentionally hilarious movies I've ever seen.

  • looks gay but at least it looks better than any of the crappy star wars movies(except the "empire strikes back" of course)!

  • Perhaps the Baron should consider...Proactiv? (Maybe?)

  • its like a nasty star wars

  • I loved the book and read it many times, I am an young fan and had no idea they made a movie of it-now I have to watch it!!

  • @ZoZoStudios if you did not know their is a mini series too. "frank herberts dune" as for how good it is, production wise its pretty good for the story people go back and forth on it. i like it. they also made "children of dune" along side it.

  • Dune is shit !

  • It's a good movie, but only because Patrick Stewart is in it.

  • they say that to enjoy the movie you have to know the novel and even then is really confusing, i wanted to know if that is true because i really want to see it

  • @genesis098123 Not at all: I saw and loved the film years before I got a copy of the book. It's different from the book in many ways, but reading the book made me respect the film more, to have gotten so much of such a complex and layered story into film form. I was never too happy about that little miracle at the end, but aside from that, I thought it was a great film.

By all means give it a try.

  • 1:39 Voldemort?

  • The only movie lynch ever did that he actually considers a failure

  • I read Dune and thought it was mediocre, but I'll see the movie because Lynch directed it.

  • OMG! It's young Orson Hodge!

  • Amazing! Wow, can't wait to see this. I read House Atreides, Harkonnen and I'm reading H. Corrino. For me and many... Mmmanyyy others it's the BEST Book EVER!

  • a remake of this with avatar level special effects would be a huge hit, i just recently read the first book and fell in love with it, cant wait to finish the rest.

  • I want David Lynch to impregnate me, then I'll get an abortion and blend the foetus and drink it slowly and have a little piece of his genius inside of me.

  • @Fredistheocean I think he made a movie about that...

  • @xombimonkey good point.

  • I must confess that I have never read Dune. I saw the movie when it came out and I hated it. It wasn't till years later that I watched it again on VHS and fell in love with it. It's a fabulous disaster. I thinkthe problem is not with the acting ( Freddie Jones is incredible), but the narrative. Once Paul reaches the Fremen, the movie High-tails it to the end.

  • Does the movie incorporate all the books or just the first one?

(the first one is just called Dune)

  • @madcowmenton just the first one

  • Wow, this seems absolutely amazing. I can't believe I had never heard of this before. I love sci-Fi. I also love movies from the 1980's. This, I will watch. As soon as possible.

  • I think we could use a really good and faithful remake of Dune. I'd go see it.

  • @Xazhi theres one in the making

  • @Xazhi

Preferably with HR Giger's original designs. Seriously, that guy deserves so much more than Straight-to-DVD film design.

  • that princess is sexy

  • @TURBODORK2 Virginia Madsen!

  • @odinvonzero i know now. im a fan of candy man

  • @odinvonzero Hell Yeah!!

  • FUCK HOLLYWOOD!

    FUCK HOLLYWOOD!

    FUCK HOLLYWOOD!

    FUCK HOLLYWOOD!

    FUCK HOLLYWOOD!

    FUCK HOLLYWOOD!

    FUCK HOLLYWOOD!

  • I love Stilgar.....

    "Do we have wormsign?"

"WE HAVE WORMSIGN THE LIKES OF WHICH EVEN GOD HAS NEVER SEEN"

  • David Lynch's "Dune" differs from the book. That's why many people criticize it but I don't agree. The whole movie was very well done, visual effects were great for that time and the acting was brilliant. Kyle MacLachlan and Francesca Annis were stunning

  • if they ever try a new version of the book. do in 2 parts , give themselve more time to tell the story and develope the charecters.

  • Dune novel fans bitching + Normal movie fans bitching = Priceless

  • I tried to sit through this shit, to no avail. I was confused after the first ten minutes.

  • I'm never ever going to watch this movie. Just watching the first few minutes and this trailer makes me vomit in my mouth at the fact that it's really nothing like the book. The main plot is similar, but other than that, it's like a totally different universe.

  • I didn't know the game Dune 2000 was based on this or.. Something LOLOLOLOL

  • I really love Dune, is one of my favorite stories of all time, I hope than they make a good remake.

  • I'm reading the book, and gonna watch the movie right after :)

  • @TuxTheWise me too just found it

  • @TuxTheWise I did the same thing, the movie was great, but don't expect a great adaption to the book or you will be disappointed

  • lol, people are still hating on this masterpiece? Learn to appreciate true cinema, assholes.

  • @madbringer me too just picked it up in the library

  • I still prefer this version to John Harrison version on the SyFy Channel. Even though the SyFy version had better effects and fallows the book more closer, David Lynch's movie had better acting, better consume(sing's thong not included) and it was a movie that took it's self seriously. This version just has a better vibe to it and i prefer the pronouncing of "Har-cone-in rather then "Hark-a-in."

  • I don't understand why some people don't like this movie. To me is a Real Masterpiece, but i'm suspect 'cos i love Lynch.

  • @PAULOJMFBZOO didnt lynch forsake this film as a bastard creation of his, due to restrictions on creative freedom?

  • @sullenboy1o3o

Yeah. If you read Lynch's autobio they basically screwed him on this. Part of it was that they spent too much money on set design and about 10 cents on VFX

  • Man I know this film got canned by critics in it's day. But I watched it for the first time about 10 years ago and actually quite liked it. But I don't know maybe I'm weird cause I like old sci-fi films (hate the new shit).

  • i heard that george used so many Dune references in Star Wars that when Dune the movie was being made, Lynch had a hard time making it.

  • The Film was made without cut for 4 hours of duration, but for cinema they cut everywhere so every scene make half sense and linked bad. They cut for fear of the lenght of the film. Bastard production!

  • @Mrspraderadego i know same thing happened with Sergio LEone's masterpieces like The Good The Bad and The Ugly Once Upon A Time In The West and Once Upon A TIme in America. They were long and cut short for the US. i think that is ttal bullshit.

  • @codename617 I think you're right, I re saw the film after a long time i see it for first time, and i see that is a complete shit this film (I see dune extended version, explain something better but doesn't repair the disaster) , i was remembering it in a better way... :) Well the first half part of the film is acceptable even i vote it 8 on 10 in some part, scenarios etc, but the second part is a complete disaster. In the battle seems have to come the power rangers into action... :(

  • looks like the dune remake is not gonna see the light of day for the next 5 yrs..heard that 2 directors already left the project n paramount now looking for another studio to buy the rights for dune movies..thats fucked up..hope hbo or starz get the rights to film a dune t.v series..it can be done, look at hbo rome series n starz spartacus series..they good t.v shows..so why not make dune a t.v show.

  • I've watched Dune(extended) in the cinema last month! It was great!!!!!!

  • This film would've been as great as its trailer if Lynch had made it at least 4 hours (a la Peter Jackson with Lord of the Rings)

  • There was a remake that's been put on hiatus after the rights were granted. Directors and studios have changed, so actual creation of the movie just has to happen. Hopefully it features both great filmography and effects AND blows all it's previous incarnations out into space with not too much liberties added by the director out of context. Something to make Herbert and fans of the original series drop their jaws with excitement

  • I think that it would be awesome if they did a sequel of the whole story, using modern day 3d and special effects technology. The story line along with the special effects would make one very amazing movie in my opinion.

  • The book Dune was astounding. Every book in the series was astounding and breathtaking. But you could smoke every last cubic meter of grass on the planet before watching this movie and it still wouldnt make any sense unless you knew the books backward. Pretty sure it was made only for hard core fans and even then it got really weird.

  • @shkotay Really? I had no problem understanding it. I thought it was a good movie, not perfect, but pretty good.

  • Well... today the best science fiction cinema offers is Avatar.

    ...

    ;_;

  • @13x1x20 Avatar is OVERRATED!!!

  • @BklynBryan

    No shit sherlock?

But actually there is still the movie "Moon"....

  • @BklynBryan Your mom is overrated.

  • @MacJARedd Wow you're so original. You're just another James Cameron FANBOY!!! Go J.O. to Avatar and then to Titanic. You have a man crush on Cameron and Worthington.

  • @BklynBryan What I am saying is that Dune is a great movie, but I guess you are such a Dune fanboy that you need something to pick on. Like Avatar. Wich also is a great movie.

  • @BklynBryan Amen to that

  • @BklynBryan Avatar without 3D is a medicore movie at best.

  • @BklynBryan Everyone puts it down now so its not overrated.

  • I think a lot of the crew from this movie moved on to STNG.

  • The narrator at the beginning looks good. She might be like 40 years old or older by now hehehe!

  • I loved this movie...I would like to watch it again!! Where can I find a DVD?...I could watch it online, but on a big screen TV with DVD quality will be way better!!

  • Dune was the best films made with sci-fi extraordinary... could be a critic of human beings resorces

  • does the movie have better picture than this?

  • what up with the cub belt and the fat guy flying around some smoke thing! i may just have a nightmare about some flying fat guy! lol WTF

  • Dune was one of those movies where I think I understood it the last time I saw it, but for the life of me I can't remember the plot. I know the Emperor was up to something nasty and Luke jr developed these powers and he killed some dude into the ground and the fat guy flew into the mouth of a worm.........I still can't piece that shit together in my head from memory.

  • Arrakis

  • wait... is he saying IRAQis?

  • @maarte2003 its a woman, you idiot. And she's saying "Arakis"

  • spice = technically drug. Moral of the movie, you need drug to survive.

  • Fear is the mindkiller.

  • The director did not want to put his name on it,, but it does grow on you over time. Actually a very well done enactment of the book, in retro, of course is did take some artistic license.

  • The director did not want to put his name on it,, but it does grow on you over time.

  • no where near as good as the stargate franchise

  • hey is it me or does the narrator sound like optimus prime

  • @skidmetal20

    Hahaha, yeah.

I think it's the famous Don LaFontaine though.

  • looks completely lame. not just because im a huge fan of the book. can you say "Star Wars/Trek clone" 5 times?

  • @AlecKronicle BOOOOOOO!! Nothing like Star Wars/Trek. Get your facts right. Just because it is in space and has sand does not make it Star Wars. David Lynch did a great job, and for what it's worth I went into the film industry because of directors like Lynch.

  • Would this make a good remake with like Avatar special effects and Christopher Nolan storytelling?

  • A beginning is a very delicate time. Know then, that is is the year 10191. The known universe is ruled by the Padishah Emperor Shaddam the Fourth, my father. In this time, the most precious substance in the universe is the spice Melange.

  • the sci-fi mini series was a better adaptation. Just wish i could get it on my ipod.

  • There's been plenty of other films that pay tribute to this one such as Stargate, The Matrix, The Fifth Element, Dark City, Avatar, Total Recall and Serenity, who agrees?

  • @Johnlindsey289 explain one for each movie you mentioned, I'd like to know. because im gonna watch dune tonight, cant wait.

  • @Johnlindsey289 Dune pretty much totally inspired Star Wars, too.

  • @Squidza2k6 It's impossible - Star Wars were in the past, Dune will be in the future

  • Not to be confused with "Spice World: The Movie"!

  • The visual FX blew my mind

  • the spice is just lsd but made by worms instead of hippies

  • I always thought that was a rather presumptuous tag line: "A world beyond your imagination." I mean don't tell me what my limits are, you don't know me. Stupid tag line.. I'll kick that tag lines ass, I'm the tag master..

  • @YeeWhoEnterHere you show that damn tag line who's boss!

  • What is the most precious substance now?

  • @leguan1

    Life itself?

  • @Jammed9000 That's what Mentats say.

  • @leguan1

Really? I really need to see this movie....

  • @Jammed9000 Then - don't hurry. 2012 adaptation will be Mind-Blowing.

  • @leguan1

I doubt it will live up to the original. And its being directed by the dude who did "Taken", while its a good film, its nothing compared to masterpiece sci-fi space-opera.

  • @Jammed9000 Cameron did not start with Avatar.

  • @leguan1

I'm sorry, what? What do you mean Cameron did not start with Avatar?

Of course he didn't, but I never said any different.

  • @Jammed9000 New Dune movie will be MUCH better.

  • @leguan1 Nah, just an over bloated CG love fest. Besides, they'll never top the music. This film has one of the most EPIC and greatest scores in movie history!

  • @RetroVGamer this movie is a little boring

  • The spice?

    we have that now... hehe

  • The Spice Must Flow!!!

  • why would spice be so valueble? If anything, i'd expect a special kind of metal, or fuel to be far more valueble.

  • oh, for dear sci fi, PLEASE remake this! except not so weird this time

  • DUNE< DUNE!

  • I mean three.

  • Each tree princess will make I WILL CUT!

  • David Lynch did what he could with a complex story of a enormous world and many complex characters. Flawed perhaps, but overall an impressive film.

  • I really enjoyed this film, I read the book later on and even though they had to trim it down, it really brought it to life. After all, The Lord of the Rings trilogy left out lots of plot elements from the books.

  • He He...she said "Eractus"

  • Re-make better be bitchin....

  • there's a remake? is Lynch directing? why would anyone remake a David Lynch film? its a David Lynch film! HOW THE FUCK DO YOU REMAKE A DAVID LYNCH FILM!!!

  • Remember, yahoo called David Lynch's Dune, a flop. I really felt it was not that of a flop. There could have been some improvements....

  • @Tamaohoi by filming a movie similar to the old one?

  • @Tamaohoi

Don't you read the Dune books? this was an alright adaptation and the new movie will not be a remake.

  • @bhrackley

    hahaha

    i got an eractus

  • At this time in the universe, the most precious substance in the universe is the spice Salt. It extends life for any boring dish...

  • @GasSnake2003 ha!---------and the most sought after thing is money!!!

  • @GasSnake2003 and if too much is taken in, one could replicate the effects of a laxative...

  • @GasSnake2003 Agreed.

    >XD

  • @GasSnake2003 LMAO!!!

  • @GasSnake2003 well actually it shortens life for any boring dish

  • @GasSnake2003 Dude, dont reignite the great Salt-Pepper civil war of 10542

  • I WILL kill him!!!

Oh god that never gets old.

  • It's the dude from desperate housewifes!

  • Agreed.............DUNE is one of those films where its better to let it just wash over you and enjoy it rather than anaylse it too critically. They did their best with what was deemed an unfilmable plot.

  • this is not the movie to judge David Lynch. If u know his work, u will know that.

  • This picture was film in Churubusco - Azteca Studios at México City, this studios are all the Mexican cinema history.

  • What is the name of the song in the background? and that chick is really hot.

  • Virginia Madsen.
