hey i really need help. i Found this baby sparrow similar to yours in my local beach, and rescued it while it has no feathers. but now is fully feathered and im still feeding it by hand it can fly and drink water on its own but has no interest in bird seed. whats wrong with it?
I don't think that there's anything wrong with it. Seeds may not be its thing...Try giving it insects (little Grasshoppers, mosquitos, flies) . Normally, they are really like to eat these. They like berries as well. Pi-Chi liked the meal worms that I bought at the pet shop. Good luck!
And, by the way, to all those who have been following my adventures with Pi-Chi (thank you for your warm comments over the last year), you will be happy (and perhaps a little sad too...) to know that Pi-Chi finally decided to leave the house two months ago. In May, mating season for sparrows in Japan.
I deleted someone's comment/question by mistake. I am really sorry about this. That person had a question about Pi-Chi being a sparrow because of his feathers being black. Because of that, I initially thought that Pi-Chi was a swallow. In the end, his feathers turned brown. And I realized that he was a common house sparrow.
Thank you for your nice comment. I really appreciate it.
Frankly, I have never thought of the legality of keeping one.
I think that, because I had him since he was a baby (before his eyes opened), Pi-Chi always looked at me as a "parent" rather than an owner and the house as his nest. He knew the difference between me and someone else.
Thank you for asking. Pi-Chi has decided to stay. I don't treat him like a pet. He is not in a cage. He can go around the house as he please but he pretty much stays in the same corner. That makes it easier for me to clean :) He can go in the garden and leave anytime. But he comes back. He is a good companion.
thats great! especially the part the he goes to the garden and come back. i also have birds(zebra finches) free in my room. they have mate and now they have baby birds but i dont thing they will come back if they get outside... you can check them at my videos. adios
My boyfriend and i are raising a baby sparrow as well. He is about 5 weeks old...He will eat meal worms but only when fed to him with the tweezers. He won't pic them up on his own. Any suggestions? Thanks")
Just be patient. instinct will kick in in due time. It took P-Chi two weeks before he started picking them up on his own. To motivate him, I started placing the worms on the floor in front of him rather than giving them to him. He soon understood what he needed to do. Good luck :)!
Thank you :) I called him Pi-Chi because when he was a baby he always said "Pi-Chi Pi-Chi". Not very creative, I know, but it seemed like a fitting name at the time.

Now I know how it ends, spoiled the ending... Well I'm glad he stayed and that you keep him around the house. This is a great series of videos.
