@iluvpigeons That is the distortion of the amp. Try less gain and maybe try using a tube screamer but less drive on the amp. Another Problem with fuzzyness is, that most active EMG Pickups have that much output gain that the signal, coming from the guitare, is already clipping. You can avoid that Problem with better Pickups like Dimazio LiquiFire or Bareknuckle Aftermath. In my opinion the Pickups are the most crucial thing to gain a stunning clean sound and a brutal distortion tone.

And I know, everyone keeps telling me to 'turn the gain down', but then the sound isn't as brutal and bad ass... Personally, I use the mids to add some extra grit to my sound and help me cut through the mix, especially in solos. I sometimes like the sound of scooped mids, but it depends on the situation. If I'm doing something that's fast and articulate with a lot of stuff going on, scooped stuff just doesn't tend to let all the notes and overtones poke through. Then again, I'm a black/death metal guy.

@Sniperkitten971 on my amp i cut the mids completely out. but i do hot rod the amp with an MXR M108 and i boost the mids by 12 db at 1khz and cut back by 6db at 500 hz. :) itss nice and heavy yet punchy.

Or even better : Two different amps, a 6505 with V equalization dual with an Orange with shitload of mids ! Quite hard to set up in a band, but the sound is just massively destroyfull :D

Very nice man very very detailed video of the different speakers/guitars/settings. I've gotten my favorite sound to come out of eminence legends (120W) (Vader Cabinet 4x12) and a XXX peavey head, using on board distortion and a boss NS-2 pedal. I like the ESP eclipse the best, you can play drop A on one and it'll still sex the tone up.
