I notice in the Wright website that the blade is ground rather than whetted. Pardon me asking a daft question (I'mn ew to bushraft) but how does that effect sharpening the knife over the years, or doesn't it?
@keanoman1000 -Unfortunately not they all have a choil or ricasso, and being hand ground they used to vary a lot, although Wrights have listened to the reviews on the knife and keep it as short as they can these days.
Id just like to say I have one of these and I've hammered it since June, it's been with me all over the place it's a brilliant knife!!! Thanks to the makers for a top bit of kit!
That price seems quite reasonable to me for something of that quality and obvious time and effort of production. I always look at things as if I were to try and make it, and if I did, it would take me quite a lot of time and effort, let alone acquired skills, which I do not have, yet can recognize and appreciate for their worth. To kep the money in our own cultures, I would gladly spend it on this.
@Caveman0713 OK, fine, no worries from this end geezer, just like I said, ' Horses for Courses' etc at the e.o.t.d, everyone can spend their own cash the way they want, after-all, they worked for it, the decision they make is theirs by right eh.
Just recieved mine today, man what a awsome knife. U really don't relize how good it is until U have it in your hands. I have a BRKT Northstar,a liten bror,BCNW 01,BHK Boattail scandi,Bravo 1, and a Koster, this knife is made just as well. If ur thinking about bying this knife, just do it U won't regret it.
The blade blanks are all finished to around 4.2mm (0.166inch) the handle materials vary being natural materials, and can vary considerably, we are currently waiting on stag handled models.
Very nice knife, I searched out on A Wright and Sons and found the Sheffield Site. Wow, real nice blades of all sorts, and beautiful folders, had to change my T-Shirt, I had been drooling without realising!! haha :=) With the Cost being a concern, and nothing wrong with that, but I believe there are ' Horses for Courses ' and indeed, ' Riders for Horses ', - you want or must have a thoroughbred horse ? be a thoroughbred rider -- >
-- > rider and be happy with paying the price, you want or must have a good horse but not a thoroughbred ? be a good rider and be happy with that price. It's all to do with wants and needs and a bottom line.
The list price is £140 so I've already discounted it heavily, and considering wrights are master knife makers and have been producing knives since 1947 I think its a very good deal.
@spexmaniacuk Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit, and bullshit. $150 is alot of money to drop on a knife, $100 is my limit and it better be have 100% money back and a 90 day damage repair guarantee for that kind of cash. I have made my own knives for WAAAAYYY cheaper and I use 1095 carbon steel blanks if I were to start selling them (which I wont) they would only be around $80, handled and sharpened to a razors edge.
@krazy4knives As your in the USA the spyderco will probably be cheaper (I have both) I find I use the Wrights more. The steel in the Spyderco is made in Taiwan, the Wrights is Shefield steel. The handle shape is slightly better on the sypderco (if you like G10) my own preference it to the natural feel of wood. In the UK the Wrights is much cheaper, not shure how prices compare in the USA. hope that helps, John
I see your point, and nothing wrong with having cost concerns, I suffer the same way when liking a blade from the USA or a Site that is USA Priced, a $30.00 blade will cost me £30.00 or more if taxed, and if I want a premium Blade, ( Bench made, etc ) or custom built, a price of $100.00 - good price for quality, would be £200.00 + to me eh. World Finance - Sucks big time eh!
Have to admit, Video wise, I'd love a video tour of the factory. A glimpse at the talented staff in action and a a quick look at the processes involved with making such an awesome product would be great.
That is a great idea, in the 5ish years since we made the first prototypes I have never gotten over to the factory, but with this in mind I may have a word with the owner and see about a guided tour when I'm due another batch of knives. Thanks for the idea.
I've been net shopping for a month now and i can't find a better knife for the money. I would like to call at the factory to pick one up as i live locally.
The factory doesn't have a shop persay, but there is a shop at 475 Eccleshall Rd who are official stockists, It won't be as cheap as getting one of me though ;-)

@Caveman0713
Danniele...which part of what i said is bullshit?
I was just commenting about the price difference between £700 and £100.
I was not talking about repair guarantee, strenghts, weak points, steels....etc etc
Also...in the UK £100 is not much for a custom knife.

There is a guy selling a Ray Mears Woodlora knife like these....his price is up around £700.
So £100 is not that much when you look at it.

that's why people buy clones.
