Roland should privide a dvd tutorial. I would gladly pay to see how the dr-3 is programed. The info says it is easy to program. Ya shure!! There are100 presets but the only way to use them is to program patterns so bass changes will coincide with the chord changes that you are playing. This is a lot of work if you have several songs. The Dr-3 has bass along with drum. You can mute the bass. Page 89 for that. Then you can play along with the drums only. Manual could be better done.
i don´t wast my time programing in dr-3 ..... do it in your daw, (cubase; sonar... cake).. and transmit via midi to dr-3... the sequences in daw, can be used in other drums, or drums vsti.... it´s more intelligent.
@crisnich How do I do this? I've got a MIDI file loaded into cubase that I want to export to the DR-3 (I'm sending via a PreSonus Firebox interface, which has a MIDI out)
I had one of these was my first drum machine ever i hated it could never get the thing to record and the sounds were cool but it dont record i looked it up on rolands site and it says it is strictly for jamming so i sold it for 40 after i paid 80 just wanted to get rid of it i bought a 303 groovebox after this and that suits me much better even though it took 9 month to figure it out

Can you put in audio samples and then trigger them with a pad? I'm trying to find a way to do 808's in a live setting with my drums like A Day To Remember or really any band like that. I know you can do it with a Roland SPD Sampling Pad but no one is made of money.
it has audio OUT (mono L and mono R or stereo) and midi IN only. It's a really fine device, for the money. However i found that the A# notes on some of the bass instruments are slightly out of key (a little too low for my ear). But buy it - you'll get a Scoda for the price of a bicycle.
Im working on my own styles in dr-3 (amazing) boss drum machine.
But , when i'm making the "fill's" the last note , is a cymbal attack (splash!) and this note must be placed in the same place of the first note of the first compass of the next pattern, you know ? So, in dr-3, i see the 4/4 times, but when finish the "fill" of drums, (FILL A, for example) the cymbal will attack in the same time at the kick drum in the first compass of the "VERSE A".
i think this is good.but its just for drums.what about a box with many synth types sound.if i want to make a nice intro before my guitar solo.you know about some boxes like this
You could search for a Korg EM-1, Roland mc-303, 307 or 505. You could find them for a nice price. Any sampler would be nice too, you could use any sound you want. For that, search Korg ES-1, Roland sp-404.
Since you're a guitarrist, i'd stick with the cheaper boxes, like the ones I told you :)
But there are other options, like Korg EMX-1 or ESX-1... Oh... you could use the BOSS Micro BR, it's a portable recorder with drum arrangements. You could just record other instruments into other tracks
How do you combine a drum kit with a different bass kit?

How to hook this up to a computer? I plugged it into my midi and it would not work.

@numanuma20 **** The dr-3 only receive midi signals from your sequencer. Try cakewalk, cubase....

I have this video from Pro Audio DVD and it is a must-have for Boss DR3 owners. Makes set-up easy compared to the original owner's manual.
