  • through the bottom of the mouth then out one of there nose holes. it holds alot better and they live longer. that goes with any type of live bait from catfishin to crappie.

  • I agree with this guy. If you hook your minnow about anywhere else it dies to quickly.

  • I dont get it when i hooked mine i tried all the ways the lips tail behind the dorsal fin but every time when i bring them in they all have died please help.

  • I have to give you props....... thanks for the intro to minnow fishing... we have always used worms if not plastics... but props to you for fishing in the heavy coat weather!... I'm a hot weather baby and I have to have a tank top 'n shorts... but thanks for making this video...

  • you want to hook them throung the bottom lip and through the nose because fish eat live bait HEAD FIRST because of the fins so if the hook is through the lip and nose and the fish was to get bit in half you would still hook the fish cuz it ate the first half of the fish where the hook was

  • i hook minnows through the mouth out the gills and back in his tail andd it looks perfect

  • thats how i do it too, most the time anyway..

  • using live bait is cheating.

  • my biggest crappie ever was on a live mummichog aka killie

  • Go under the mouth and through the top of his mouth

  • I used to hook them through the tail..but have found that they last longer if you hook them through the eyes.

  • those shades are the sh#t!

  • i havent crappie fished sence i was five lmao

  • I like to hook mine through the scrotum. They're more lively yet passive.

  • Crappie Flag Rod Tip Bobber.

  • how i hook a minnow is through the mouth, out he gill, and into the back... i caught like a 4 to 8 pound bass doing that...

  • Thank you for the video.

  • boppers.......

  • howd u get ur minnows?

  • i think u are all wrong you hook it through the top of the head or if want you can hook it through the lip the reason you hook it through the head is because its main nerve system is their and it makes them swim longer than the tail or any other place

  • @TheCrappieboy That is the dumbest mess I've ever heard. Tail hooking them is gonna keep them alive the longest and they will swim down. Then hooking them through the back(careful not to hit the spine) they wil swim down, then lip hooking them. But through the top of the head is gonna kill them.

  • What kind of minnows you using? I usually use Crappie, Somtimes bass, but bas are too big at times...

  • 1 man, 3 rods? illegal much guys?

  • @dzhotdog Depends on where you fish. We can use up to 7 here in Oklahoma, but some lakes have a 3 rod limit.

  • @Slittylicker313 oh,i see. good for you guys.... here in ontario, we only allowed to use 1 rod.

  • nice vid! cant wait to crappie fish love em!

  • Through the lips or 1 nostil is good when live.

  • you should go through the mouth and then one of the eyes and they stay on longer and live longer

  • hey nice vid! would you join our forum?

  • Comen from a person who keeps any fish he gets on his line. thats not at all how u fuckin rig it up. good look with that dumb shit keep tryin buddy

  • I dont mind larger minnows. I personally go a bit smaller than that but not half. You tend to run into larger bluegills and green sunfish if you go too small. You can go through a couple dozen minnows in no time if they are tooo small.

  • im gonna try that while bass fishin with goldfish

  • what part of lake greenwood is that?

  • What state do you live in?

  • Thanks for the video tip. Looks like a good setup! Nice and cold out there I bet... Awesome!

  • You looked like you were having fun. How many did you catch?

  • thanks, good info

  • awesome video 5 stars

    dave here

  • In Ohio, I use a 4 or smaller Mustad wire hook, and I hook em just at the back of the dorsal too. Smaller minnows, gotta be careful not to hit the spine. If you get a lot of misses, you should switch to mouth or eye hooking, sometimes they act wierd and hit differently. Might be a visibility thing.

  • I rarely hook my shiners there. I caught over 300 this fall, and all were caught hooking the minow from bottom to top of the lips. you would be suprised how well they hold.

  • WAY too big of a minnow AND bobber for crappie!!!

  • I agree, he should try a minnow half that size. My biggest crappie are always caught on the smallest shiners.

  • Depends, some places crappie are big enough to eat that.

  • you did it like a mother frucker

  • why would you waste your time on typing a dumb comment like that. If you don't like the way he did it then don't watch it. Go watch the L word on HBO.

  • crappie is good catfish bait, did you catch any?

  • he did it perfect right by the tail. you want that extra movement it will attract more fish. It makes them struggle with all that back and forth movement which to the fish seems like they are going to die which makes for easy prey for the fish. I have seen people do it other ways at the same spot as me and I am catching more crappies then they are.

  • i hook minnows through the mouth, but i just go for anything, i once caught a 14 inchcrappie with a fathead, but i mostly just go for anything, mostly pickerel

  • Partially correct, hook it with the hookfacing the head of the minnow right under the dorsal fin like you showed, reaon being, Crappie and Bass will allways hit the minnow head first. your will haveless fish get away and you will allways hook them in the top of the mouth.

  • were do u get the minnows?

  • I disagree.. i think it is better when you hook them through the spin because, they dont have as much room to move, but thhey do move more realistic and lively. I would also liek to add that they don't always eat minnows from the head first because the scales are so small it doesn't really matter...

  • Through the spine will kill them.

  • not through the spine, right under the spine..

  • @how2fish LOL

  • @how2fish no thats wrong ive been crappie fishing for over 15 yrs. Hooking a minnow through the spine wont kill it. itll stay alive long enough to catch a fish

  • @how2fish it wount kill then

  • @kago105, the movement is what attracts the crappie. You dont want a dead still minnow on your hook.

  • @kago105 if you hook them through the spine it will paralize them and they cant swim therfore not catching any big predator fish like bass

  • @kago105 Hook them below their dorsal fin and they will live longer :)

  • @kago105 shows how much you know

  • Hey, just being the expert fisherman i am, i want to give you some advise. You don't hook the fish trough the spine. You hook it through the lips. When a crappie goes to get the minnow, he eats it headfirst. it does this because the scales go own easier. The hook is the first thing that enters the mouth so, you have a better chance of hooking it.

  • yah, and they dont move around as good in the water when you hook it through the spine.

  • that`s exactly how i do it..1.keeps it alive longer

2.crappie go head first for the minnow most of the time...3.doesn`t fall off as easy....finally someone knows how to do it!

  • u need a better camera so we can see what ur showing us

  • Dude anyone can fish or teach people how to fish u racist bitch.

  • My boyfriend and I started fishing we didnt know how to hook the minnow thanks. We started fishing for bass. How far behind the minnow do you tie the floater?

  • Depends how deep the water is usually 3-4 feet.

  • Great thats about how deep shore area we fish is 3 to 5 feet

    Thanks

  • I like the video. That's how I hook my minnows for crappie too. When I got big shiners on for catfish I hook em through the lips though.

  • i live near lake greenwood and catch crappie with a lure called a bumblebee i don't really use minnows that much unless im fishing at night...

  • have fun =]

  • who doesent know how to hook a minnow

  • me >.< well i just wanna know the most efficient way idk

  • i used another method and they died so i'll try his way looks better

  • Well..the really pointless videos are the ones with the gay guys just sitting in front of their cameras smoking pipes and cigars. I don't get that at all!

Another way to do this is to hoook the minnow just under the dorsal fin. I've had great success using minnows this way.

  • Hooking them behind the tail isnt 'how' to hook a minoe...but its one way to do it.

  • that was the most pointles video ive ever seen and ive seen many pointless videos..take it off youtube your just embarrassing yourself

  • boooooooo

  • worst fishing video here

  • it so is weak dude

  • weak
