  • Good god. My speech teacher sounds like this....

  • incidental, ranch in Montana, will listen now

  • Great clip. Thanks for posting.

Originally, Jonathan Demme wanted to go out to Montana and film a flashback "screaming of the lambs" scene with the girl who played young Clarice. The flashback images were to accompany Clarice's description of her experience on the morning she left the ranch.

After Demme saw the footage of Clarice and Hannibal's conversation, though, he said, "I guess we aren't going to Montana." No director in his right mind would try to "improve" this scene.

  • George Lucas would.

  • that was gooowd....awesome

  • this is what u call acting

  • This is my most favourite villain from the movie world.. All time favourite!

    what an intelligent presentation!

  • This is my favorite movie.

This is really the only one I watch though, It's not the same without Jodie.

But I love them all! =]

  • Great scene. Have to appreciate the acting, rarely gets seen.

  • hannibal sounds like anti cosmo from fairly odd parents

  • hahahahaha

  • hes supposed to lmaoo remember he says clarice all the time haha

  • Nah that's just being an asshole.

  • It's not wise to say that, moron.

  • 7:37 my favorite part

  • i feel sad for people who think that this movie's all about blood and gore, cause it's really much deeper than that. And the worst part is, some people think it's all about gore even AFTER they've seen it.

    Some people eh?

  • Lecter was a monster ever since he was a youngster and more so when he killed the guy who had kids when he was young.

  • He didn't try to be. In the novel Hannibal Rising, which is the sequel, it tells about how Lecter was basically traumatized as a kid by sitting and watching his sister get murdered and cannibalized by soldiers.

  • Yes and he lost all traces of his humanity when he brutally killed Kolnas, the man who had 2 kids much like Hannibal and his sister instead of sparing him as Lady Murasaki (the only remnant of his family) insisted.

  • its kinda weird how this guy reminds me off myself he seem to be able to break people down and get enjoyment off it like he knows everything bout that person by just looking at em its weird

  • he reminds you of yourself?

    Yeah nah

    he is 2g 4u.

  • not like exactly but im just saying he likes playing with peoples emotions and he knows all about the perso n and just fucks with them something i do often

  • Learn to spell, imbecile.

  • Beautiful scene. Thank you.

  • wull ah dunno jus' wat your'e-a talkin' 'bout .

  • That's George Romero with the striped tie and walkie-talkie at the very end of the scene. Jonathan Demme filmed this in Philadelphia where Romero is based and thought that giving him a cameo would be an appropriate homage to one of the kings of horror.

  • without a doubt, the most powerful scene in the movie. the performance here is far more haunting and emotional than in the book...hopkins and foster's finest moments as actors.

  • amazing scene

    it just draws you in

    its so emotional

i feel bad for the lambs

  • hannibal's way of speaking sounds so intelligent, its amazing!

  • is it strange that his name rhymes with cannibal this is the kind of guy I look up to

  • nice quality, good work. thanks for uploading this.

  • 1:04 ... classic

  • I love this movie, Hopkins is a genius.

  • "Wonder what he wants for breakfast, some damn thing from the zoo?" No, just Pembry's face.

  • A classic improve scene that Anthony & Jodie made immortal

  • This movies gives me the creeps.

  • to any of you TSOTL fans,at the very end of the film hopkins says "im having an old friend for dinner" can any of you tell me who he means by that? plzzzzzzzz.reply back to me because i really want ro find out.

  • u best be trollin'! he means hes going to eat the cop

  • its quite an old joke. When he says he is having an old friend for dinner. he means he is going to eat an old friend for dinner.

  • he's about to eat the DR who is in Florence who tormented him when he was locked up LOL!!

  • Dr Chilton, the man who was in charge of Hannibal Lecter when he was in the other dungeon type prison (earlier in the film prior to this scene.) There isn't a scene or anything of him "Having dinner" with Chilton, but it was more of a suggestion. We all know what's going to happen. You can see Dr Chilton walking off the plane with Barney at the end of SOTL.

Hope this helps, it's a really great film and one of my favorites. :)

  • Dr Chilton is the guy at 7:07 saying, "Ok, time to go.", just for clarity that you know who Chilton is in this film.

  • what a dumb muda plucker you are. hopkins won an oscar for this classic film jodie foster it was the best film she made.you need to pour lotion in your ears and hope it developes in to a brain. just look a the comments you get what an arse you are...

  • Yeah, you really have problems if you think this is an average horror/thriller film.

It was the third film to win all five major oscars, it has numerous records on AFIs top lists, it is the 29th greatest movie ever made(official), and it set groundbreaking influences for every thriller film that came after it.

Comment again when you dislike an actual bad film.

  • can you still hear the lambs creaming

  • the only thing that seperates a psychopath and a genius is success, i would say he was a rather successful killer, woudnt you?

  • I would agree, not many people realize that if these kind of people were to use thier abilities and direct there interests to a good cause they would be highly succesful. Although thier skill is used for morbid actions, it would be useful if used in a good way.

  • Anthony really gives the character the frightning and sexy and chilling feeling

    and he's sexy

  • dang he is so hott

  • Erzähl mich um die Lämmer Clarice

  • Clarice has a weird accent

  • pure west virginia

  • Seems distinctly southwestern

  • classmates creeped out when i said this was my favorite movie....wonder why

  • I cried like some grandma in this scene...

  • perfect scene

  • The girl opened her soul for a totally stranger phsycho in 4 minutes... Then hannibal killed his neighbor just by talking to him... Do I hate to say something else?

  • no way, this is such a better movie

  • 7:02 he has tears in his eyes

  • I love this movie

  • This is a comedy movie right?

  • no horror

  • Really? I laughed my ass off so hard my chest hurt. I was drinking. I was being sarcastic, I know it's a horror movie.

  • yah it was produced by judd apatow

  • hello clorice

  • It creeps me out. The books are alot better especially the ending in hannibal. I really wanted them 2 run away together it sound really odd but they go together really well in my eyes he really understands her and visa versa.

  • For most movies of this genre, you watch it once, but dont watch it more than once coz the thrill wears off after a point, but I don't think that the same can be said for this coz of the fact that it has such a prominent emotional core, which gives it a prominent touch of drama alongside the sheer horror of certain scenes. I can't think of many movies that do that as well as this.

  • Well said. I feel the same. A month ago they showed this at a local movie theatre, the place was packed! And seeing this on the big screen was just amazing.

  • This is the only scary movie that I feel a genuine emotional connection with.

  • the story about Claris and her escape is not like it's in the book- she didn't run away with a lamb, but with one blind horse. Damn.. I don't like when the screen play is differend!

  • jusst like in hannibal.

she ran off with him in the book.

but in the film he cut off his hand and ran away alone

  • I hate when they do this!

  • He knew it was her cause of the shoes.

  • such an intensive scene. never have seen something like that before.

  • ive never seen this movie

    what exactly is it about?

  • Young girl seeks help from crazy old cannibal to track down serial killer. Old man escaped and girl became FBI in the end. I believe the old man loves the girl because he always watches over her and never hurt her even in the second movie.

  • all of you fail to see the real point

i'd explain but my keyboard is too small

  • Every time he says Clarice a shiver goes down my spine, I'm doing a play where I'm a girl named Clarice and this dude has to go all Hannibal lecter on me, lol.

  • this is the best scene... almost better than the book :D

  • this movie is beautiful

i mean the way Lecter is talking, his inteligence and his deep view into Clarice's soul - that's undescribable

  • Indescribable.

  • ok INdescribable - WHATEVER

I'm German, my English is bad - but what the fuck do you want?

  • Nothing I was just being a dick.

  • okay, good

    i thought the same ;)

  • @xNicoleSx (4

    2. i said don't write me directly because this is my dad's account but you can reply here, he does not know i got his password that is all, so if you email me then he would know, that is all.

I'm sorry for being bitchy (but i take things always way too serious)

    thnak you ;)

  • *thank you

  • worser

  • what?

  • Hello, Clarice = Hannibal

Good Evening, Clarice = The Silence of the Lambs

  • it is such a movie...The actors are JUST great,,,,awesome.....it is one of the best movies ever...their expressions are unreal

  • this is like the best sense in a movie ever. beautiful acting

  • there are tears in his eyes rite b4 he says "ah dr cheltnam i presume" one of the most powerful pieces of acting i'v ever seen, i get tears in my eyes sometimes when i watch this

  • yea i know for a fact he says hello clarice in one of them thats when i knew that article was full of shlt

  • haha i read yahoo just now..lol,...

  • he says, "well hello clarice" in a different hannibal movie, with julianne moore.

  • funny how everyone repeats the line as "Hello, Clarice" when he actually says "Good evening, Clarice"

  • some ones been reading yahoo

  • did u read that off of yahoo? too?

  • He does say hello Clarice in a different movie. That yahoo article was pretty dumb, actually. They talk about misquoting movies, yet they, themselves, misquote StarWars. According to that article Darth vader said "No, I am your father." When the actual line is "No, Luke, I am your father." I just thought it was worth pointing out. You can't always trust Yahoo.

  • Um, coming from one of the biggest Star Wars geeks out there, no it's not. Watch "Empire Strikes Back" again, and get yourself oriented a bit before you speak.

  • Yes. I realise I made a mistake. I watched the movie again after posting that comment. They were wrong about these movies, though.

  • wow it is so old yet seems so modern

  • compelling eyes

  • Hello Clarice Amazing!

  • It's amazing to think that this movie was made over 18 years ago-but it still sets the benchmark. I guess thats what makes it a classic.

  • i don't think jodie foster is very attractive in general... but her voice and accent in this movie is a joke. so manly and unrealistic...

no one can compete with anthony hopkins... they are nothing compared to him

  • Yeah I think this, Exorcist, and Shining are the best horrors ever made. Well this is probably jsut as much a drama and thriller, but what I personally find scary is a twisted/broken mind. THe idea of losing myself to a madness. However Lector isn't really mad poersay, just plain evil with a certain chram. Casting Hopkins was nothing short of brilliant. I mean Christopher Lee, and Jeremy Irons are okay actors, but they wouldn't play him as well as Hopkins. There's just this presence he gives!

  • Hannibal Lecter's voice and eyes are like a cobra ready to strike.

  • it's actually a thriller. a psychological thriller if you want to get specific. one of the best ever made.

  • what are other psychological thrillers that are good?

  • have ya seen Se7en?

  • gd movie.

  • heheh

  • Far more than a horror film. Is it even that? I'd class it as a drama, and one of the very best ever made too. And this scene...

  • It isn't a horror movie in the traditional sense...but I'd classify movies like this, There Will Be Blood, and Apocalypse Now as definite "horror" films.

  • LoOOoOooLL! tis faab/! =) Barney You Know LMFAO! soo true i Guess

  • The AFI(American Film Institute) placed Hannibal Lecter in first place in the Top 100 Villains. He's just amazing and Anthony Hopkins performance as him is just incredible.

  • Lecter is so badass

  • Is there really a more perfect casting choice than Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling and Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter?

  • Comment removed

  • Hannibal Lecter rocks. I love The Silence of the Lambs. This movie is amazing.

  • Show of hands.

Who had someone walk in during the infamous BB dance scene?

  • My mother walked in, but she immediately knew what I was watching and there was very, very little explanation on my end.

  • whats wrong with that? u get in trouble? was it...past your bedtime?LOL

  • It might have been. I can't remember as I've aged considerably since the interruption. But, it could have been past my bedtime. :)

  • eurocups your dumb its a good movie its not our fault you have a weak stomach and it upsets you lol. mayb you should stick to barney

  • Look, Eurocups, you thick shit, if you dont like a film that everyone else does, then you should keep your mouth shut. I know everyone has an opinion, but whoever doesn't like the Hannibal series doesn't deserve one. I say this a friend.

    P.S.Get help.

  • P.S. Get help? you berk lol

  • Other half of LeadZebra is, lol

  • ah the ugly cruel corrupt hatefull jealous pedophile bearded men jews slit the throats of lambs then hang screaming bleeting 'till bleed to death "they" do , none told

  • Agreed. This role required more subtlety than the Joker, if you know what I mean. Both great in their own way.

  • Hannibal Lecter has such mesmerizing eyes.

  • Good evening clarice.

  • This is perfect example of why Anthony Hopkins is one of my favorite actors.

  • That's true, but Heath Ledger did a really brilliant job with the Joker. And I agree, the characters are completely different. The can't be compared.

  • Jodie Foster is an acting goddess! Just look at her vulnerability in this scene, it's so beautiful, so real you can feel it.

  • Yes, she's extraordinary.

  • I think that Hanibbal Lecter is the Joker's dad. Explains everything.

  • Did they edit out the bit where he sodomizes her through the cage?

  • how many stars did this movie get 3, or 4

  • It Got Four Stars Im Watching It on Encore Right Now And I Info'd It. I Have To Say Wen It Comes to the Whacko Awards Hannibal or Heath Ledgers Joker R The Best

  • best movie ever

  • He really gets under her skin

  • silence of the lambs is so good, i love all the characters, buffalo bill, hannibal ecter they are so entertaining and classic :)

  • 2:18-2:19 Wasn't it a blink?

  • Does anyone else find that the g-man from the Half-life games seems to be based on Hannibal's character?

  • yes

  • one of the best movie scenes ever

  • Im convinced that I fell in love with Jodie Foster after seeing this movie. I'm ALSO convinced that Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter is the greatest casting choice in all of movie villainy. It's sad that kids these days say the Joker is scariest-yet-coolest character of all time. Clearly, they haven't seen this.
