"Ain't That Peculiar" is a 1965 song recorded by American soul musician Marvin Gaye for the Tamla (Motown) label. The single was produced by Smokey Robinson, and written by Robinson, and fellow Miracles members Ronald White, Pete Moore, and Marv Tarplin
A #1 hit for Marvin Gaye on the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was the 133rd #1 R&B song of the Rock Era. It also hit #8 on the Top 40 charts. There is no doubt that Marvin Gaye was bcoming a force on the music scene.
To say Marvin Gaye is the greatest ever is just an understatement. This guy rocked my life from the time I first heard him when I was 18 and he continues to move my soul and spirit even now at 65. Rock on, Brother Marvin----you are sorely missed.
@50sVintage Right on brother 50sVintage, Right On! I'm just discovering the beauty of YouTube and the ability to see genius like Marvin Gaye after all these many years. Can't wait to check out Otis Redding, James Brown and Sam Cook--JUST FOR STARTERS. And I've got the whole weekend for this..........
I have lived the better years of my life and Marvin, Still Bill, Otis, Gladys, Steely Dan and so many others were there. Music is my 1st hobby now. Look out YouTube.
just imagine what it must have been like in the hittsville studio. incredible music coming from the building all the time. music that's more than 45 years old-------and STILL SOUNDS GREAT!!!
BTW-this was NOT sung live by Marvin-it was performed in front of a live studio audience that listened to him lipsinc-listen to the original it's exactly the same.
Hand claps were duplicated by slamming 2 X 4 wood pieces of lumber together with a hinge at the bottom. This was told to me by Motown engineer Ed Moon when he produced a session for Johnny Thunders at Livonia Sound. So we used it on "Crime of The Century" and "M.I.A."
@fusheeny Without a doubt. The whole motown scene was bigger than life. Imagine if there were no racial barriers to hurdle??? The success they earned would have been a flicker compared to what they could have accomplished....
