It's funny, everyone on here saying that "Thief's theme is better" is just proving Remi right. He said "Now people are coming outta the woodwork saying Thief's Theme is better, but Im like Where were you when we put out thief's theme?"....so true.Nobody was talkin bout Thief's Theme until Hip-Hop is dead came out.
Salaam is dope...but in all honesty I think his "OVERALL" production with Nas is Nas downfall in his career...If you take out Made You Look, Get Down, Where Ya'll At, Serious & Poison..the rest of the tracks he did for Nas are straight up GARBAGE! I hope Nas starts working with producers better suited for his voice & style like Pete Rock, Buckwild, Premier, ALC, Just Blaze again rather than Salaam whose just gonna give the same boring ass break beat records with no melody like Nasty!
Anyone know what Salaam sampled for norfside remix of kool g rap fast life? And if anyone knows what he sampled for his fugeez nappy heads remix would be much appreciated. His samples are so elusive???

@fingerslicking Nah, Salaam mentioned that he already used Apache for "Made You Look," which is correct. And I believe, if I remember correctly, that will.i.am used the Apache sample in tandem with the Iron Butterfly sample for HHID.
Salaam is my dude but Hip Hop is dead killed theif's theme. Hip Hop is Dead was an anthem in 2k6! It brought a uptempo energy that Thief's Theme didn't have. Plus the concept of the song was iller! If Hip Hop Should Die b4 I wake roll 2 every station and Murder the DJ! I take extended clip and body 'em all day!
and will.i.am.. it was an unoriginal concept to use the same sample, but then again if you can do it better than another producer then prove it. Doom and RZA had used message from a black man but Nas killed it with his deep message. I personally don't mind if a producer uses a previously used sample but does it better. Will didn't, but i think both songs are good in there respective ways.. but then again best to dig and find something that hasnt been sampled. peace
I never got what is so great about Salaam Remi.. I prefer many producers to him but then again I haven't heard the best of him.. anyways.. Nas has done good albums and I think hip hop is dead is a good album, untitled had its good tracks like "you can't stop us now" but wack tracks like that one collaboration with chris brown, kinda contradicted nas' previous album title. Anyways distant relatives is great and Nas has a full catalog that combines flow, poetry and deep messages
Thief Theme & Hip Hop is Dead sample the same song : In a Gadda da Vida by Iron Butterfly (the version Incredible Bongo Band recorded, much more funky and with the Horns !). i don't think they use Apache... everybody confuses with the samples, the original and the bitters in this video : even Saalam misname the sample he uses !!!!
Cool interview, very informative too. I remember Nas was bringin' the heat that summer. Serious and Talk of NY definitely should have been on the album.
Finally learned why HHID had the Theif's theme beat. Genius lol.
the sample for thief's theme was incredible bongo band's cover of in-a-gadda-da-vida. hip hop is dead's sample was the original

Where are the Amy Winehouse Frank and Back to black recording sessions?
Amy could have doine 5,10 or 50 takes of all the songs she ever recorded but those who have them are not releasing them quick enough in my view.

thiefs theme is one of the best nas tracks hes done.. still bump it

He didn't sample Apache for this one. He used Iron Butterfly's In-Da-Gadda-Da-Vita. He used Apache for Made You Look.

I prefer thief's theme both lyrically and production wise but hip hop is dead was more culturally relevant.

Streets Disciple is the last great Album from Nas The later two albums didn't really do it for me. Great Video for Thief's Theme, classic.
