Danny Kaye did it all! From what I gathered, many entertainers had to do it all. I don't think many actors today can act sing and dance. I wonder if doing all that would better their craft,
'Age of Aquarius'! Very sixties song. I sang this in high school chorus, and I remember how much fun the alto harmony was, and oh, listening to the tenors! Brings back great memories, even though the song is now passe.
@NaiTaiDai I wonder how they made it look like the construction worker was being eaten by the lunch box. I thought that act was kind of corny, myself.
Don't know if you received my email re the biographies - I read both Nobody's Fool by Martin Gottfried (1994) which although not easy to read was the better of the two and The Secret Life of Danny Kaye by Michael Freedland (1985- DK was still alive) which gives some snippets of his homelife as well. Both were purchased on Amazon.
my point exactly. can you tell me which danny biographies you read? can you perhaps recommend something to me? haven't read any yet but i would love to.
@UTAStudios I'd second MsBedwell's recommendation of Gottfried's book - it's very good and fairly objective (which means he includes the gossip but lets the reader come to his/her own conclusions ^_^ ). What I liked most about the book is that he describes in detail how the 'Danny Kaye' act worked and how Kaye and his wife developed the stage/screen persona.
@spiderorchid81 Thank you very much for the suggestion. I already ordered the book online and can't wait to read it. I bought Gottfried's Nobody's Fool: The lives of Danny Kaye. Thank you so much again.
Too right- just read two of his biographies and his stints at the London Palladium were incredible. In perspective of today's standards he would still be the world's top paid entertainer.
Yes, he trully is one of a kind. He had it all. Passion, charisma, charm, poise and incredible talent. What I also admire about him is that he didn't bend to the industry when they wanted him to get his nose operated. He's got incredible looks and will remain in my mind as the greatest entertainer of all time.
I was mistaken. That was 63 seconds instead of 25.
