Just incase some here might not have access to a welder. A 1"x1"x1/2" black iron tee with a couple short nipples would do the same job. Then screw in the 1/2" barb fitting into the 1/2" side of the tee. Also, if you don't want to put the hose over the threaded part of the nipples, just cut them off using a pipe cutter of a sawsall with the nipples in a vice. Nice video Brian!
Btw how did you weld the fitting to the pipe. Any special technique or material? My friend that was going to weld them together does not believe it will work since the fitting is aluminum and the pipe is galvanized steel. Thanks.
@seniorjohnl Their business model is crap. My poor dear friend worked there until his hair fell out on account of the wicked things they did to him and for the wicked things they made him do to others. He had to cut corners and make dicey shortcuts. He had to use their crappy starters and alternators and when they failed- he had to re-install another crappy one on warranty with no pay. Many of the techs he worked with he had to train for free and many had ZERO experience.
Wow, this is crazy. My girlfriend had the same problem happen to her 01 Mercury sable. So since her engine is exactly the same I am going use this fix. Thanks a lot you are saving a broke college student a lot of money. The local ford dealership is trying to charge her $180 for the part alone and then there is also labor on top of that, not to mention her car was leaking so bad it would have to be towed. Quick question though, Best place to get the compressed air fitting and any particular size?
Yeah, my sister-in-law's '97 Taurus has really screwed us over. Coolant sludge and etc... I'll look for that icon on the dash!! The most bizarre car I have ever worked on. MY '88 T-Bird has had the same coolant fluid in it for 3 years and it still looks fresh. The Taurus fluid lasts maybe a month before it turns to sludge. Then the TRS went out--Thank God for Web Forums. The TRS is simply a stealership profit tool for those unlucky to have no skills.
@braden09242008 No idea, sorry. And the $25 part was only part of the problem. My mechanic friend ended up fixing it kind of like this video. It's been almost 6 months and it's holding up without any problems.
Thanks!!! Daughter called from School ~1 hour drive said car was over heating leaking water near battery. Found this video, got my tools together and grabbed a air chuck adapter drove down and same issue with her car. Went to Menards got a 1" galvanized Tee, two 2" long nipples and a reduced 1" to 1/4" pieced it together, cut out old pieces cut hoses to fit and doubled clamped the hose to the galvanized pipe.
You know that is the gas cap light right?

Haha - Still not sure if buying everything and jerry-rigging it into the part is worth the hassle when the auto parts store has the part for $25
sjharwood1 6 months ago
@sjharwood1 PLEASE let me know what this part is called. i Have been searching forever and I can't find this part without paying over $150 thank you!

kennethwagner2011 7 months ago
@kennethwagner2011 No it's usually an EGR flow sensor or pressure transducer.
briansmobile1 7 months ago
The warning light on the dashboard is for the gas cap. It is shown on page 5 of the owner's manual.
