Can somebody explain to me why Ander's vocals changed in his later albums? His voice strayed more into metalcore-like vocals and further away from death metal vocals with each passing album.
@Ghostblood1334 As In Flames got older, starting with Reroute to Remain, they wanted to make music that would be easier to play in a concert setting. This led to "softer" music, so to adjust, Anders used "softer" vocals. Hope that helps.

Going absolute mental sudden change in genre would have changed their core. They're still heavy and they're still melodic, that's the core. In fact, I don't even care if they made a dramatic change in genre, because if it's tasteful music and up to my liking, I'd still listen to them.

The melody now and then isnt so different, th biggest different is that you can hear the lyrics now. And it feels like Anders sings with a lot more feeling and love to the music.
@Bleppe123 Thank you, someone that thinks the same way as me. I started with Come Clarity, some from Clayman, and forward. I like those the best, but looking back, I'm finding some pearls of old too. Like you say, they still are just as melodic, it just happens that I like Anders later style of singing, because it doesn't sound as forced as in the older songs. I mean, take A New Dawn from SoaPF, that is one of his best performances ever, I would say.

@MrReaderson1 No, not literally shield of the moon. By saying "Moonshield" he means the reflection a some items get. Shield is used as a symbol of reflection "yes shield, not mirror." And he mentions Moon, because this song is about living no by yourself but living by mostly depending on others. So is with the Moon. Moon as itself - we couldn't even see it, if what? exactly, the Sun won't shine and reflect "shield" the sun lights from the Moon so we could see it.

I don't get why people hate on In Flames nowadays. I think fans hate for the sake of hating new stuff. I can understand the Metallica Old vs New, it was like fucking night and day when they cut their hair, but In Flames is still going strong and still has their style, a little too clean nowadays, but they're still fucking amazing.

@VonValen They DID go the way of Metallica: they started watering down their sound because it would help them sell records, and each album they did after Clayman has been worse than the one before it as a result. So I fail to see how it could be worse.
@ScreamBloodyMetal If that is true, then why is Death Magnetic a better album than St. Anger? Why is Come Clarity a better album than Soundtrack to Your Escape? And have you ever thought that maybe bands change their sound because they get tired of playing the same style over and over? Look at any band that has been around for at least 10 years and compare their most recent album to their first one and you will see a major difference. Now note that In Flames is coming up on 20 years.
@Disturbed43216 If you want a good example of how a band has changed their sound and managed to maintain their artistic integrity, look at Megadeth. Few metal bands have sold out as hard as In Flames has. Listen to Lunar Strain or Colony and then tell me that Come Clarity is even close to the same level of musicianship. And by the way, saying Death Magnetic is better than St. Anger is like saying solid brown shit smells better than liquid green shit: it might be better, but it's still shit.
@ScreamBloodyMetal In my opinions Death Magnetic was a really good album, not as good as Justice or Master of Puppets, but a hell of a lot better than a lot of other metal. I never said Come Clarity was better than Colony, I was just pointing out that your theory of each album being worse than the one before is wrong. You don't have to like a band drastically changing their sound but that does not automatically make it bad. And you are forgetting when everyone got pissed when Megadeth made Risk.
@Disturbed43216 You misunderstand me. I don't mind when a band radically changes their sound for artistic reasons; that's why Megadeth's new stuff rules. What I take issue with is bands who radically change their sound to sell records. Metalcore was popular during the '00s, and In Flames cashed in on that trend. Don't get me wrong, STYE and CC have their moments, but most of their post-2000 material is just a cash grab, which is sad because they used to put out great albums like TJR.

@JasonChrist999 that was somehow...the "mask" of his real intetions..i`m not sure, maybe he has alcohool problems, but in the past that ain`t blocked his way; there were about 2 tours in which jesper was in rehab, and the guitarist who took his place now replaced him; and anders later said that they weren`t going along too well in the late times.....

I don't get why people hate on In Flames nowadays. I think fans hate for the sake of hating new stuff. I can understand the Metallica Old vs New, it was like fucking night and day when they cut their hair, but In Flames is still going strong and still has their style, a little too clean nowadays, but they're still fucking amazing.

@VonValen They DID go the way of Metallica: they started watering down their sound because it would help them sell records, and each album they did after Clayman has been worse than the one before it as a result. So I fail to see how it could be worse.

@ScreamBloodyMetal If that is true, then why is Death Magnetic a better album than St. Anger? Why is Come Clarity a better album than Soundtrack to Your Escape? And have you ever thought that maybe bands change their sound because they get tired of playing the same style over and over? Look at any band that has been around for at least 10 years and compare their most recent album to their first one and you will see a major difference. Now note that In Flames is coming up on 20 years.

Few metal bands have sold out as hard as In Flames has. Listen to Lunar Strain or Colony and then tell me that Come Clarity is even close to the same level of musicianship. And by the way, saying Death Magnetic is better than St. Anger is like saying solid brown shit smells better than liquid green shit: it might be better, but it's still shit.

@ScreamBloodyMetal In my opinions Death Magnetic was a really good album, not as good as Justice or Master of Puppets, but a hell of a lot better than a lot of other metal. I never said Come Clarity was better than Colony, I was just pointing out that your theory of each album being worse than the one before is wrong. You don't have to like a band drastically changing their sound but that does not automatically make it bad. And you are forgetting when everyone got pissed when Megadeth made Risk.

@Disturbed43216 You misunderstand me. I don't mind when a band radically changes their sound for artistic reasons; that's why Megadeth's new stuff rules. What I take issue with is bands who radically change their sound to sell records. Metalcore was popular during the '00s, and In Flames cashed in on that trend. Don't get me wrong, STYE and CC have their moments, but most of their post-2000 material is just a cash grab, which is sad because they used to put out great albums like TJR.
