Alan Minter was very busy with his punches but only about 10 landed, Marvins movement, strength and accuracy were awesome and he hadn't even come out of first gear, Minter tried to fight toe to toe and got battered, not even Tommy Hearns could get away with that! As Ali said 'it will be like a good amateur vs a professional, as Minter learned when his fellow countryman Tony Sibson knocked him out.

Hagler is a true legend, but not too many opponents put him on the back foot like minter did. marvin hates us english since then, can't say i blame him tho after that. came back to haunt him tho...his camp had an english judge for the Leonard fight replaced by a mexican who went on to score 10 rounds to Leonard. The british judge watched it back home on TV and scored the fight to marvin.

Hagler was a very hard puncher. If there were any racist comments made by Minter then it was not too professional. I remember Jerry Quarry (heavyweight) once was asked if he was the 'Great White Hope' . Quarry's answer " screw White Hopes, I'm a fighter".

I was only 12 when this fight took place and remember these scenes like yesterday. Bloody disgrace, and even as a child I was ashamed to be English, A lot of Minters fans were from the National Front, and it didn't help by Minter saying "I'll never let a black man beat me". Hagler after the match said he'll never fight in England again, and he was true to his word.

Here's a suggestion: The British Boxing Board of Control ought to make amends to Hagler by invite him to attend the next ig boxing event in London. It's more than 30 years late, but he can finally be formally recognized as the champ inside the ring--a courtesy that was denied to him by the bottle-throwers in 1980.
