Hi Phil, Mike Robb here from ICONZ. Just wanted to let you kno the last promo you did for 14th BB is a really good effort.
I pretty much agree with your above comments to mrAll4god, as well.
MrAll4god. I would be happy to talk to him about the ICONZ focus and activities if you coul give me his e mail address. He may really like what we are up to.
My father lives in Christchurch. I actually live in the States at the moment. But dad owns a big company in Christchurch, and he was going to sponsor BB in Christchurch but just felt that even though he was a Christian, he felt his money was not well spent when it targeted kids who were Christians only. He said he wanted more bang for his buck, even though he wasn't doing it for increased sales.
Really? I actually think the opposite. Half the people in our company are not christian. I think that any chance to share the gospel (not religion) is great. Otherwise, just go to scouts...
I think you do have a point though, when did he try to do this? Which company are you talking about inparticular?
BB in chch has been slowly dying and nearly did die in the last decade. However I think that for a few of the companys in particular, that we are just turning the tide.
In fact BB has pretty much died across NZ. (For some reason not so much in CHCH.) However since ICONZ was started, it has boomed. ICONZ already has more members than the BB in NZ.
Its all about the boys, not the bible. However it is still intertwined with each companys church. I myself have never been to ICONZ, so I dont know how much Christina activities they do. But I do hope they dont completely get rid of it, meaning no one will even hear the gospel.
I do the development and promo work for ICONZ in Christchurch.I would be happy to meet your dad and explain what we are doing ,if he is interested, why don't you give me his email address ? Cheers, Mike
Boys Brigade is not the same these days I'm afraid. The old uniform was way better with shirt, shorts and long socks, instead of whatever you want.
But while I know its a Christian organisation, it is too much so now, and will only really ever attract Christian. It never used to but I think the fundamentalist side of Christianity has taken over the BB now, which I think is really sad. I wouldn't actually advise any boy to join for those reasons.
Go to my page and watch the recent video from the same company.
I disagree, we have discussed this thoroughly at a NZ National Boys brigade Youth forum. Boys Brigade is about the boys remember. And boys' brigade is dying hard out.
We in NZ have reformed the BB to the ICONZ (search it up) which is like a Boys Brigade for the 21st century.
We don't wear whatever you want, we still wear uniform (only in this video it's summer programme.) But its more focused for todays boys with the same objective "The advancement of Christ's Kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of obedience, reverence, discipline, self respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness"
So we don't think that holding a strict traditional uniform is required and a new one can be created to appeal to todays boys.
Well I am 15, and I'm a Christian. I go to Sea Scouts and we wear a traditional uniform and all of us love it, even though some boys make out they don't, we all take pride in it. That is all part of the discipline, and I think if you went back to the old style uniform you would be surprised at the reaction because boys love discipline. The Sea Scouts are booming because while we are Christian based, it isn't our main focus. Our main focus is on having fun rather than doing bible study badges...
Once you concentrate on the bible like the BB do, you restrict yourself to Christians, and a few non-Christians. The BB will never stop doing that because they are far too focused on the bible to let it go, but if you put the emphasis on fun and discipline first, you would find the BB would grow.
Well I am an ex-member of the 2nd Paignton Coy in Devon.I spent nearly 20 yrs in the bb.I am afraid that I do not like the uniforms. We wore either navy blue shirt with eppaulettes,bb clip on tie, navy blue trousers and forage cap and armbands for badges & stripes.Great to see the Boys Brigade is operating after some many years ( 126 I think)
hey its Cameron from the 7th Hamilton Company you guys down there hear about my Grandads death in january you guys might know him as Mr. Shaw or Harry. he served 65 years in bb you should know him. Nice vid u should make more

They don't have to, thats the whole point. It is the bible that is killing a good organisation.

We have more than 100 sea scouts in our group. Why does the BB not have anything close to that?
MrAll4god 1 year ago
