The very first version I heard them sing contained,

she describes how she looses her husband,her job. the crib is tore down, the stroller is wheel is messed up, and she could not afford shoes for her baby. but she kept going to church, and kept on singing, and reading.

Pay attention to this version and this backs up what i was saying.
