  • No but its all good she just needs to realize she should give props to who she is singing with! They had more in the top 15 than she can even remember. True Vocal Masters!

  • any1 know who the white chick is?

  • Taylor Dane sounds good with them!

  • I remember I taped this whole show on VHS now it's been erased or taped over. Anyone know where I can get the whole show from start to finish? It had various artists from the 70's.

  • Don't worry peeps, tho others may come along, we can keep these alive,, keep playing, keep requesting, keep loving them.

  • i fall in love everytime i listen to them again and again!

  • They have such soothing voices

  • Thank you You Tube... !!!

  • I saw the original spinners back in 1977 (so glad that I did, because I couldn't afford it). They were my favorite group along with The Stylistics back in the 70's. Booby looks good and this is a good rendition!!! However, Mighty Love is not the same without the great Phillippe doing his improvised thing. Although the new replacement is doing an excellent job!

  • what year was this performance

  • These cats reinvented choreography. What great musical performers. thanks for posting.

  • I was so overwhelmed watching The Spinners that I didn't realize I was watching Taylor Dayne, the most under-recognized female Soul Singer in the business ! Go, Taylor !

  • In a word...EXCELLENT! Thanks for posting one of my favorite groups of all times.

  • Not the same without Philippe Soul Wynne. RIP

  • So sad rap came along and anointed itself the face of black music.

  • she doesnt compare to the spinners

  • 1:06. It's all worth it for those couple of notes! WOW.

  • Awesome music! Chills! Thanks a lot for posting!

  • Love it!!

  • Bobby Smith is 75 yrs old....wat singer still sounds like they did wen they were in their 30's

  • Like I heard someone say..... Phillipe Wynnne was a big cat, but John Edwards was TIGER !!!!!

  • Taylor Dane ruined it

  • Wynne used to be preaching on the microphone! Rest in everlasting peace Phillipe!

  • Awesome!!

  • is he doing sign language?

  • @blackberryjuice1 i think he's using his hands to compensate for the fact that his voice is not as strong as it was

  • I love Taylor Dane, but oversang during this performance...she was just doing too much. Also, I miss Phillipe' Wynne. No one can replace him!

  • I love that guy's deep voice!

  • IT IZ TAYLOR DANE!!! Remember " I'll always looove you for the rest of my days...."

    TAYLOR DANE IS THE B O M B!!!

  • Who is the blond? I know I heard her sing back then...

  • @jatontherun

    I think it's Taylor Dayne.

  • i remember hearing this song with low-lite chicago sports on a summer evening in i think 1974 when the pirates beat the cubs 22-0. that record still stands.

  • @Icynene You know I have watched a lot of Bobby Smith performances and he actually sounds better now in some videos than he did during this time period. I wonder if he had a stroke. If you look at the side of his face he sounds different than he does in other shows. John Edwards is the man though, and I would still give Bobby Smith props because he is the group. But I think he had a stroke that is why his voice declined.

  • @DanielSchmidt94521 Bobby had a stroke, John is wheel chairbound with a stroke and Pervis andd Bobby Henderson are dead sadly

  • @Matt Daddy!! Well said!!!

  • When music was real and meant something. This was powerful. It moved people. Motivated people. I regret not seeing these guys in concert. I'm just too young.

  • such Og's love all of you og's, your favorite whiteboy keepin it real in music and life always.

  • I was in grade school!!! What year was this taping?

  • @wvClifton this was about 15 years ago....Two of the singers are dead and one is wheelchairbound from a stroke.

  • Love it!

  • 1:03 "Twelve forty-five." Nuff said

  • Does anyone have a copy of the Spinners "You're throwing a good love away"? If so, could you please post it?

  • Who's the lady?

  • @abenjam2

That hot woman would be Miss Taylor Dane!

  • @abenjam2 Taylor Dane...gotta love her sexy powerful voice...lotta good tunes from her late 80's

  • Why can't people make musical genius like this anymore. I freaking love the spinners. So awesome. They made the rubberband man for crying out loud!

  • Only thing missing is Phillippe "Soul" Wynne. Man could he take us to church or what!!! Anybody rememebr the 1975 Grammy's when the Spinners performed "Mighty Love" how Phillippe Wynne sang all over that building up and down the aisles and they couldn't take him off the stage!

  • WHY DO YOU GUYS KEEP ON ABOUT THE COLOUR OF THE PERSON AS IF IT MEANS SOMTHING THAY CAN ALL SING IN THE 70S I NEVER SAW THE COLOUR THAY WERE, I SAW PEOPLE SINGING GREAT SONGS I CAN NOT SAY THAT THESE DAYS ,RAY ANDREWS

  • WHY DO YOU GUYS KEEP ON ABOUT THE COLOUR OF THE PERSON AS IF IT MEANS SOMTHING THAY CAN ALL SING IN THE 70S I NEVER SAW THE COLOUR THAY WERE, I SAW PEOPLE SINGING GREAT SONGS

  • Love it!!! Whew!! Phyllis....

  • John Edwards had the best voice. What a singer!! WOW, specially when he sings the big hit in the 80'ies "Working My Way Back to You"/"Forgive Me, Girl" I read somewhere that he couldn't sing anymore because of the stroke. Life sucks to often.

  • I have always loved 'Games People Play'!!!!!!

they just don't make music like they used too....

the trash out there now makes me sick! :(

  • good love song guys

  • I WENT TO A SPINNERS CONCERT AND THERE WAS ONLY ONE ORIGINAL MEMBER STILL SINGING. ARE THE REST STILL LIVING? ONE OF MY FAVORITE GROUPS, MY DAD USE TO LISTEN THEM ALL THE TIME

  • Bobby's voice is strained now--maybe he wore it out--still my fav group

  • Does anyone know how John Edwards is doing? Where is he now, I know he had that stroke.

  • These tunes are so infectious. What a great clip, thanks for posting this!

  • dat white gurl can sang!!!

  • I grew up listening to this as well as lip-synching and dancing to it. Brings back memories.

  • who is that...Taylor Dayne? >-<

  • What a great performance!!! ...Bravo!!!

  • Always a big Spinners fan - Saw them in the 70's at Golf Mill Theatre in the round in Niles, IL. Also saw the J5plus2 there. Noted in my youth that the Spinners were on the RCA label at a time when most of the black groups where Motown acts.

  • Sueintexas I feel bad 3 weeks and noone has answered your question! All of the Spinners are original members except John Edwards (he sings lead on Mighty Love) He replaced Phillipe Whynne in 1977. I believe that this video is from 1990 when they where all still together. Since then Edwards had a stroke and had to leave the group after 25+ yrs. Billy Henderson died in 2007 and Pervis Jackson (Mr 12:45) died in08/09. Now only 2 of the original menbers are left Henry Fambrough and Bobby Smith.

  • We just did a song at church...and when it first started and we started singing...this song came right to my mind. Love it.

  • Now this is good music.

  • This is what you call real good music. Is that Taylor Dayne - she is good as well. Thanks for posting this.

  • Great 70's tune

  • Sounding really good; appearing here(mtl)tomorrow night!

  • rubberband man still has a voice--wow

  • Mighty Love is like church music that moves you. love it

  • WOW that must have been an awesome party! I do love me some great 70's music!

  • We know about the Spinners but that woman is great.

  • Love the spinners

  • Fantastic...

  • who is that woman?

  • @101southsideboy I think it's Taylor Dayne

  • @101southsideboy thats Taylor Dayne...Oh yeah!

  • This was the SHIT!!! Loved It!!! Thanks!!!

  • SPINNERS live in MANILA! Yehey! 3-26-10

  • same reaction but then it's my son's high school graduation too, would you give me a blow by blow account on what was sung, etc.?

  • Wow! One of my favorites 70's songs (Games People Play) and I didn't even know it was those awesome Spinners. They truly are one of the best bands ever. Thank you Spinners! You guys are real Americana!

Great performance of Never Knew Love Before, BTW.

  • @jancieful yes they are the best

  • Whoah! At about 3:50 she overpowers the mike, causing some feedback.

  • love the Spinners and Taylor has a voice no bull!

  • The Spinners actually go way way back to the early sixties. Yes, they really don't get a lot of credit for their longevity. John Edwards was fantastic! And the music from the fifties, sixties and seventies was truly the geatest!

  • I saw them at the county fair in 1989--gosh what a thrill, after having heard them on the radio forever before that!

  • @TheSanityInspector great singers

  • Thank you for this great post!

    Spinners an American Treasure!

    and Taylor was Kicking it!

  • we used to have this on 45 rpm.

  • I miss the 50's through 70's and the bands that we heard on the radios

  • @40Rtruss i miss it ,too because that was honest and really good music :-)

  • Well, at least there's YouTube!

  • @TheSanityInspector

    --

There has never been anything like Youtube. The ability to share so many great performances that we cannot recapture--wow.

  • this is cool. these guys were bad. lol

  • Couldnt sgree with you more 1980triumph! John Edwards doesnt get enough credit for his contibution to the group. A little known fact is that Edwards stayed with the group almost 25yrs to Phillipes 5!

  • I've always wondered why the Spinners never get credit for their longevity. This line was together for nearly 25 years.

  • Taylor was kicking it!!!! Go Taylor!!!

  • I am a big Phillpe fan but always admired John as his replacement. I couldn't imagine anyone other than John to replace Phillpe, he isn't an original but came in and did his thing, this video is proof of that.....bless them, for my money love the Spinners more than the Temps, Tops and O Jays

  • yes yes yes the spinners are my favorite my mom put me on to them thanks mom rip.

  • that is Howard Stern @ 4:15 crazy they were thr years!!!!!!!

  • Taylor kick ass! end of story!

  • Is that Taylor Dane refusing to harmonize? They could have rufused to wear those shirts, right? That's what I call a wardrobe malfunction. Love the Spinners though (sans Gheri curl)

  • yeh dam shes fine.... great great support

  • Damn she's fine as hell...aka Blaze

  • never heard of her before she can sing

  • she sang. tell it to my heart. a 80's club classic.

  • this video is GREAT!!

  • The singer is Taylor Dayne :)

  • man i would love dionne warwick here instead this lady...but she's good too

  • Does anyone have "Sadie" in their playlist , I cannot find it anywhere

  • the female is taylor dane

  • To "FABFLAVORFAB" ... I don't know who the female singer is but I DO know it is NOT Dionne Warwick as the next poster suggested. Dionne Warwick is African American.

  • Style, class and talent BEYOND words!!!!! They are ALL incredibly gifted but, omg ... I'm lesbian and Mr. Bass Man ... I'm in Love! Well, with your voice anyway ... lol.

  • Who is the female singer

  • dionne warwick i believe

  • Cont- Bell begged Wynne not to leave but his response was" he was the group!" The spinners went on a had 2 more top 5 hits in 1980. Phillipe had no solo success. He died on stage of a heart attack in 1984. The 4 founding member of the spinners were together for over 40 yrs.

Billy Henderson died in 07 and Pervis Jackson in 08. Bobby Smith and Henry Fambrough are still touring. One last shameful fact. The spinners are not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!

  • Some facts on the spinners. Their 1st hit was in 1961. After being signed by Motown they were overlooked and performed odd jobs for the company like driving around the big acts. Signing with Atlantic in1971 producer Thom Bell (the main reason for their success) chose them to work with. Phillipe Wynne joined the group in 1971 and stayed until 1977. Success went to his head and he began missing shows forcing thje group to search for a replacement. That replacement was John Edwards.

  • 11661210, It is apparent that you know the ins and outs of the Spinners, would you happen to know where I can view "Sadie"

    Thanks, D

  • The best place to view Sadie is at one of their live concerts. I don't think there are any videos of them Singing it on here.

  • In this version of the spinners ther are 4 of the original founding members. The one in the center is Bobby Smith who sang lead on most of their biggest hits. The other lead stationed on the right is John Edwards. He replaced Phillipe Wynne in 1977 and stayed until he suffered a stroke in 2000. He stayed with the group longer that all of the previous lead singers put together! 23yrs!

  • So its John Edwards singing lead at the end of Mighty Love? Thanks for your info

    PJ

  • The Spinners has had a few principal vocalists in their 50 year span (and I like them all). What is the name of this one?

  • Pervis Jackson + 12:45= Best Bass vocalist and bass line in the history of Motown Music!!!

  • These guy's harmony and choreography are always perfect. Try to find that with a group today. They're from the old school where performers cared.

Too bad they had to chop their songs to fit the time limit.

Yes, the white chick tries to take over that second song. That's an example of the modern lack of understanding of harmony.

  • I was pretty young when they were popular but I still loved them...then and now!!

  • The white chic messed them up .......

  • Hey, . . . .that white chic was good!!!!. . . .She gave Dionne a serious run!

  • (deep voice) 12:45

  • i never missed these guys when they came to the "circle star theater" near San Francisco each year. They are timeless!

  • omg..I was an usher there from 73-76...watched temps. 4 tops spinners..:) nice...best times in my life

  • I went to Circle Star too!! What a great place to see a concert!! I saw The Spinners there and the Tempts, Ojays, Blue Magic, 4 Tops, Chi Lites and so many more..Those were some great times in the 70's

  • OMG..circle star was the place to see all the groups ..temps and spinners used to play new years eve....right? wow where has the time gone..however still love the songs...thanks to u-tube:)

  • @ruedydude

U R so right!! This is the best music ever!!!!

  • @kaforest3 I BET IT WAS......WOW!!

  • ditto....the circle star was the place to go..............:0 so many memories ..go spinners..circle star - san carlos, ca.:0

  • OY! Kids these days. That's The MIGHTY Spinners to you, hon!

  • Love them!!

  • Never noticed the hands. But you are right. The music is top notch though!

  • These guys are great but the singer is kinda freaking me out with his hands.

  • Cool !!!!!!!!!!

  • Anyone know the chord progression for "Love Don't Love Nobody" (Spinners)

  • What memories. Life seemed more simpler back in the day. Go Spinners! I'll Be Around. Rubber Band Man! The list goes on.

  • I agree, life did simpler back then.

  • oh yeah...memories...they are great!!

  • One of the best vocal groups ever! They prove it in this video!

  • These are the TOTALLY COOLEST dudes ever!!

  • @trinisexgod check out the commadores

I had the hots for her in Tell It To My Heart

  • yeah...on the Soul Train video...he lip syncs the girl part...hilarious....we think he lost the bet! hahhaaa.

  • loved The Spinners. back in my High School days! cool!

  • The Spinners rock the house! Wow!

  • Comment removed

  • Love this song I would play this 1 all of the time.I was N the 7th or 8th grade when this album came out I JUST KNEW I WAS A SPINNER LOVE THIS SONG........

  • CLASSIC!

  • whos the dark deep voice ?

  • That's Mr 12:45 himself, the late Purvis Jackson who died last August of cancer. His voice can be heard on many of the Spinners 70's hits.

  • That's the worlds greatest bass singer Pervis Jackson! My friend and idol, R.I.P. "12:45".

  • @Bass35744 someone should post The spinners - Heavy On The Sunshine and hear Pervis really Take it home with his line in the second to last chorus " we'll be safe and warm inside our hearts". I always have to crack the volume a little higher as it comes to his part so I can get that deep rumbling Basso Profundo

  • @dbthegroovemaster I am well with you groovemaster, love that Bass Man Pervis Jackson. I am always looking forward to where he comes in on Games People Play. I have always loved a Bass man. Melvin Franklin is one of my favorites along with Paul Robeson of "Ole Man River" fame in "Showboat, Richard Sterban of the Oakridge Boys, and Bill Pinkney. Next I like Baratones like Brook Benton, Arthur Prysock, Vaughn Monroe etc.

  • @lookingback62 A good Gibbs smack in the head for me. Way too many bass men out there to list them all, but how the heck did I leave out Barry White??? What a DS.

  • that's funny, my friends/I referred to him as 12:45; I didn't know others did too ...

    R.I.P. 12:45
