  • He got better and better at his craft.

  • One of my favorite Ricky Nelson songs

  • what a way to live on

  • wasn't i know he's dead

  • that's not a shot a ricky I love his music and can do attitude,he's also not stupid

  • Ozzie Taught Ricky well, surround yourself with talent

  • Too bad the music of today is not understandable like the Ricky Nelson music. I was at this show as a patron with my bride of 52 years . Ricky is in a better place, but we miss his music and himself. Don Carter USAF Retired.

  • He had the respect of the best blues and rock singers so anyone who doesn't like this doesn't know what they're talking about and their vote doesn't count because if they can't play the game, they can't make the rules. If this song doesn't make you rock, check your pulse

  • Best I have EVER heard him. It rocks

  • As a lifelong (39 years) Rick Nelson fan, I'm not afraid to admit he was not a perfect man. Among his faults were drug use and womanizing. According to the National Transportation Safety Board, traces of cocaine and marijuana were found in his system during the autopsy. Just Google Rick Nelson and Cocaine and you'll find the L.A. Times story. His brother David and his sons and daughter ALL confirmed his drug use. He also had a son, Eric Crewe, from a 1 night stand. He was a man, not a God.

  • @smitty54017 That drug story is a myth perpetuated by the media and was later refuted. And even if it was true-who cares? Let it go man.

  • @daleahill @daleahill Actually, drug use wasn't a rumor..it's fact. Freebasing causing the crash WAS a rumor. Here's an interview with his song where they allude to mom & dad's drug and alcohol use: Matthew "I've seen people all through my childhood—my friends, my dad and mom—doing it where they were so screwed up it just had no romance or mystery for me." From people.com/people/archive/article/0,,20115640,00.html They would know...they were there. Let it go man.

  • i knew rock was my calling,or so I thought

  • i know the words

    and the music

  • not even the kings ass if he were to walk this earth,I mean ELVIS

  • high I kiss no ones ass

  • ty

  • Oh, my word what a handsome man, love him so much!!!

  • It is so wonderful to hear all the wonderful memories about Rick Nelson.

    Thank you.....everyone!

  • I wish I had his hair!

  • Nagyon tuti ez a szám! Köszönet a feltöltőnek!!!

  • I love Ricky Nelson. I think he was so cool.

  • lonesometown can be the best song u ever heard

  • I freakin' nailed that ending! wish u all coulda heard it!

  • Why would anyone badmouth Ricky? I was about 13 years old and my parents knew I loved his music and I could sing and sound almost exactly like him. Some how they arranged for me to meet him before a concert he was performing in Detroit. He was really nice to me. He teased me and said; "Phil, if you keep singing the way you do now, you'll be a bigger success than I am." I thought that was so funny. He encouraged me to pursue my dream and then he had to go.

    pabock CSM Army (retired)

  • Hot hot HOTTT!!! Damn, wish I was at that concert! I would've ran on that stage!!! =)

  • James Burton should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, for playing w/both Elvis and Ricky Nelson..wow, what a great show..

  • @dbd1353

James Burton is in the RnR HOF. Class of 2001

  • Comment removed

  • @dbd1353 You DID know this lead guitarist is Bobby Neal didnt you?? He was great also.

  • Ricky couldn't sing a lick, de-nasall average voice with no training, but....I loved all his songs. His songs were hand-picked by his dad and featured him impressively. I saw him at a county fair not long before his death, and he was great fun. When he tried to sing his new songs, everyone booed. They just wanted to hear the old crap. This is an especially bad job on this song. Don't forget the lyric from "Garden Party": "if memories were all I sang, I'd rather drive a truck."

  • If there's one thing baby that I want you to know, when you're rockin' with me don't rock too slow, move on in get toe to toe,we're gonna rock 'til we can't rock no mo',I believe!

  • All these wonderful musicians were taken because an WWII plane was made with Magnesium instead of Aluminum. It was a horrible accident and they did suffer before they lost consciousness. I especially miss my friends Pat Woodward and Ricky Intveld. Bass and Drums. I F**KING want them BACK. Thank you for this post.

  • @Corporations8MyBaby I remember reading a story that mentioned a cocaine freebasing pipe being found but never heard anything after that.I am not suggesting anything but is what I read.

  • @Syzygy60 No drugs were found in his or anyone else's body according to the autopsy. Stop perpetuating the lie. Thank you.

  • @Corporations8MyBaby That was a terrific band. Great players all. That guitarist (Bobby Neal I've just read) was a world class rocker IMO. What a sad, sad loss. A terrible tragedy.

  • Rakeuiff...some of us see things only with their eyes...lol ...I thought he was breathtaking when he was 20 and he still took my breath away when he was was 45...I'm 44 myself now...and still have an unhealthy fixation with Rick Nelson....thanks to all of you who keep feeding my obsession...I love you tube ...

  • Absolutely fantastic!!!

  • How to be cool and hot at the same time !

  • Elvis considerd him a serious competition,...John Wayne and Dean Martin starred along with him in one of the best westerns ever "Rio Bravo",...Shakin´ Stevens coverd at least two of his songs; " I belive" and "It´s late".

His Megahit "Hello Mary Lou" is still played at allmost every party.

Those facts makes Ricky Nelson a true world star,.. in my book at least!

  • Badasssss backup musicians. The lead guitar was Bobby Neal, he also passed away on the plane crash. What a player he was.

  • What an awesome song done by an awesome performer & band!1 Is that Rick Intveld playing drums?

  • This is great. He was great and a real musician not just an over hyped "Rock & Roll" crooner.

Nelson didn't lose his soul nor an iota of his talent. Thanks so much.

  • Da pauraaaa!!!

  • By the way, whoever made the comment about his white pants bein a bad choice, had to be a guy....can't imagine a female sayin such a thing...lol...

  • @gibbsfanatic Perhaps! He was always a good looking kid and grew into a good looking man , but if you were not a female fan smitten since you was fifteen you would have noticed a rather wide middle aged but , in that case, white pants were a bad choice for a rocker not at his shall we say his swivel hipped best young guy shape, in any case he rocked this song back in the day and when he sang this, his passing was a great loss .

  • Rick is SMOKIN' HOT in this clip...if I have point out why then somethings wrong with your eyes and ears....i was 19 when he did this show...I loved him then and still love him today....

  • BRILLANTE!!!!!!!

  • Hello Ricky, I am Claude King@4321claude... I have always loved every minute of your wonderful music. Thank you for being my friend during your troubled life.. Will love and respect you forever.........................................................Claude @4321claude

  • Handsome doesn't even touch it.

  • My mom use to pretend she was related to him since her last name was Nelson before she got married. I had the biggest crush on his boys

  • Great stuff - I was lucky enough to see him twice in Sydney Australia in October 1985 just before he died.

  • It's sad these great musicians except the Jordanaires are gone but their memories are here to stay.

  • Awesome! I'd love to hear more tracks like this.

  • ricky might be dead but his music will never die.

  • @Charminbear01 Right on!

  • Ricky Nelson was a superb singer and this is really a rockin' video. Thanx a lot for this great upload at YouTube. Hail! Hail! Rock'n'Roll!!!!

  • I believe!!!!!

  • Rick's records in the late fifties were dynamite - not least because he had a world class guitarist in his band, James Burton.

  • I actually had a crush on Ricky Nelson when I saw him on Ozzie and Harriet reruns at least 30 years after they originally aired. He's the only star my mom and I had crushes on at the same age but decades apart. He had great timing even as a kid, and he was a better singer than most of the guys on the charts these days. When you give him a chance he's timeless.

  • great music / so sad all these fab rocknrollers were killed in plane crash / is this show on dvd ?

  • Thanks for the post.

  • Thanks for the post.

  • What do you mean "oddly enough in a plane crash"?

  • While I was an early Rick Nelson fan, one of the things that strikes me while watching this video is that he is being backed by the Stone Canyon Band. Every musician you see doing a short solo during the break was on the plane with him when it crashed. Sadly, almost nobody knows their names. Now the men in the white suits you see during the final camera zoom out are the Jordanaires. Fortunately they weren't on the plane.

  • He and his family were a mainstay of TV for the Baby Boomers. Great family values, and comedy that sadly are missing from most of the current TV shows. Rset in peace to Rick, Ozzie & Harriet.......live on David.

  • Check out the studio album this song is on. I believe it's his last, but it really kicks.

  • Man. What memories. I was actually born in 1965 but was RAISED on this guy. My mom loved him. Great performer....RIP RICKY.....

  • His guitar player just smoked; cant remember his name. He was great too.

  • Now I remember. His name was Bobby Neal and he was about as good as they come for Rick's songs.

  • he shoulda never wore those baggy bigass white pants

  • @scarypowers

You can thank the stupid 1980s for that!!!!!

  • He looked well up to this, the last year of his life.

  • Wow, this is the first time I had seen this. I wish I had seen him live. He was so full of life and such a great looking man. Glad to have known his music. Thanks IdolAmerica for sharing.

  • good bye colorado

  • A real class act. And you said it! Very underated.

  • I saw Ricky at the After Dark nightclub in Mentor Ohio shortly before his death. The Man rocked mightily , and so did his band.He was also one of the nicest stars I ever met...probably the nicest.

  • Yeah, and ty for sticking up w/me for the truth about Rick and his great band, friend.

    Phil

  • very underated performer

  • Thanks for sharing this video.

    Greetings from Belgium

    Eric - Studio ChinChan

  • i'd like to go steady with no one else but him. he's got such a cute butt.

  • @rickysbestgirl cute butt.....great hair.......sweet smile......and he sounds like an angel !!!!!!!

  • Hey BSBS nobody wants to hear your badmouthing Rick Nelson in here, why don't you go and listen to the kind of shi* music you obviously prefer?

You are so weak ...that you have to resort to attacking teenage girls, thats pathetic man.

Listen up BSBS why don't you just come on over to our neighborhood we would be happy to teach you manners with women, and respected Rock legends like Rick Nelson?

    Col. Green (Retired) USAF USMC

  • YEA, ColonelPhillipGreen, i agree wif wat u said!!

  • @ColonelPhillipGreen I couldn't agree with you more. Right on.

  • LOL!!! It's too stoned from smoking his blunts to realise that it is a fool, don't be worried about their ilk...See, you have a life it can only envy, and so it troll's yt pages looking to pick fights on peoples videos for the lonely and empty-hotheadedness in its own life!

And BTW I agreed w/u 100% as it's earlier rude comment on this page deserved your amusing reply in return.

Glad to be of help anytime.

  • lets be honest now, if it wasn't for his Dad he would have never been given a chance to make it as a rock star. but, he was good at singing, and in my opion he started the rock a billy style in which bands like the Eagles got there influence from. the Man was ahead of his time. He had help though from awesome musicians in that era !

  • What year did he die?

  • He died on New Year's Eve 1985 in DeKalb, Texas on his way to a show he was going to perform for New Year's. Oddly enough, his twin sons, Gunnar and Matthew were supposed to be on the plane with him that night. Thankfully they didn't go.

  • this is great

  • Rick had a really great rockabilly band at this time. Saw them in the UK. The lead guitarist was called Bobby Neal and tragically he died along with Rick and other members of the band in the New Year's eve plane crash 1985. Great talents who will always be remembered.

  • I am so glad I got to see Ricky in Vegas.. shortly before his death..Gary Mule Deer opened for him. Love

  • Anybody know the guitar player's name? He's damn good.

  • Thanks for the post.

  • jesus murphy ayoye

  • Thanks for the post.

  • yah, know 7th heaven was on today and stephen collins was talking about this. Rick Nelson died of a faulty air heater in a plane not rumors that say it was drugs.

  • WOW!!! Fantastic Performance!!! 5*s I"ve watched this video over & over again...I just Love it...Thanks idolamerica....Anita

  • Do you know where this was taped?

The reason I asked is that my band for Ricky in

August prior to his death. That looks like the lead player is playing thru my Fender Twin!

It would've been in Windsor Ontario, although I'm from Detroit and opened for him on several occasions! Bobby was a great guitar player and Rick's entire band were great guys. I can guarantee you that no drugs were involved in their plane crash.

  • Wow, it's great to have heard from someone so directly involved with Ricky and his music! I've been a big fan of his music ever since I first heard these song with James Burton's hot lead guitar licks! I never believed for a second that drugs were involved in that crash and I don't know why people always try to invent these stupid scandals. I have his first album from '57 and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I imagine he was a fun guy! I wish I had been around back then to have met him.

  • I met Ricky in Las Vegas at one of his shows and he signed some old records

of his I had taken with me. Great guy!

The LP's were his first ones from 1957

("Ricky") and 1958 (" Ricky Nelson")

  • Howdy,

i've only one word for this kegendary perfomance:

    WOW!

I'am glad to be ab Rockabilly!

  • The lead guitarist is great, but he is not Rick's original; James Burton.

  • Great performance. So sad this great artist died in such tragic accident, together with all these band members.

  • He was such a great vocalist, and soooo good looking. He didn't need to do anything but sing,. tho' and he always melted my heart. And the band was amazing!

  • Jesus, what a band he had here. I'm so glad he had some great musicians, backing him up, especialy on the later shows like this, so people could still appreciate him, and the great songs he had. Man what a band. Marc.
