I have had a keyboard for three days and can already play a lot of songs, I have not had one lesson. I play guitar so that helped timing and what chords to play, but the rest is by ear. It's the best way to learn. If you play an instrument you should pick a song you don't know how to play and try and work it out. It may take a couple of hours but it is so rewarding.

@xXbronzeguitaristXx Watch Erroll Garner's 35 minute video of him playing piano back in the 60's. Erroll couldn't read music. He was one of the most creative, melodically correct, jazz player/composer's of the 20th century. I'm a guitar player that switched to playing organ after 20 years. I highly recommend playing organ to everyone. Organs are dirt cheap- buy any Hammond tone wheel organ or a Wurlitzer electrostatic reed organ- (4410 awesome!),or 4500, 4300.Morelock's4prts

I am an instrumental instructor in schools and play professionaly and love to see when people have done their own thing with an instrument. So many session players or bands sound so similar to each other that they all blend into one but when a person spends a while doing their own thing - that's when you see more of that persons personality in their playing.
