  • hula halau o kamuela

    love!!!

  • Do you have their auana from this year? I think they did Na'ale o Ni'ihau.

  • awesome !!!!!

  • maika'i ka wahine!!!

    cheee pono!!!

  • I spotted a girl in the 2nd row with what seemed like she had the shortest hair of the halau. Probably means she is a newbie; what an honor that she gets to dance in the 2nd row and perhaps hasn't danced there as long as the others.

  • @deeplydeepali She's actually been dancing for this halau for many years.

  • I loved this! I wish I could find the song it's so beautiful. :)

  • Thank you "alina885" for posting this video. This is a remarkable performance of the dancers and a great impression to the Hawaiian culture.

  • Amazing

  • What name of song?!

  • @mmsrocka at the beginning of the video the two announcers are giving an explanation of what the mele is about. Ka'i is to what they enter. Ho'i is to what they exit. Mele is song. Oli is chant. So if you watch the beginning , you will see the names of the ka'i they enter with, ho'i is name of chant they exit with, oli is what they are chanting, and mele is what they are dancing to.

  • I just love how they chant and dance! It's so graceful! And I live in Hawaii.

  • There is a Hawaiian lady in my area that bellydances in addition to being fairly accomplished in her hula. I thought it was a weird mix since the Middle East is SO far from Hawai'i, but lots of the movements are really similar. Bellydancers do a welina movement, but theirs is rapidly successive instead and is used as the main movement instead of an accent like the welina. Oh, and I love how this halau often with exits with a simple "E". It's very feminine and a little mysterious.

  • Excellent!!

  • I feel like they are absolutely PERFECT! Even their heights are all the same. Absolutely synchronized. Not to mention very skilled at the dance. Beautiful!! My favorite dance of theirs! :D

  • kunewa mook is awesome maika'i inoa

  • To those who don't know hula, there are different steps, this is the Welina, as stated by Kumu Hula Pua. It's done by alternating feet to tap floor forward, to the side, then lift and twist on the stationary foot. What makes this hula impressive is to be doing this step all the way. You should try it. Now try doing the hand movements. Now try doing it in unison with the halau, hands here, face this way, change formation, stay in lines, chant, 27 girls its easy to see a mistake, very IMPRESSIVE!

  • Fabulous footwork and hand and arm extensions, the synchronizations are just amazing! Great hula, wahine's!

  • thats one of my favorite foot steps

the ke welina. i love this halau!
