  • When i see stuff like this structural and technological innovations i feel great pride for mankind and great hope.......until i see videos like "my tram experience" lol

  • hello Otis

  • badass talaga!

  • Well that doesnt give a very good impression, only 20 secs in and the narrator makes a crucial mistake -"Nearly Half a Kilometre Tall..." Thats bollox, its well over half a kilometre at 828 metres. Its half a MILE high. silly mistake..

  • badass!!!!!!!!!

  • Where's Q1 in AUS

  • Does anyone here know which software they use to create these animations?

  • why does no one have a good copy of this in english, the only ones in hd i can find are in other languages

  • but will it blend?

  • @MrWizardFood hehe i fink that will it blend thing is just so stupid

  • this is awesome, thanks for the upload. :)

  • I bet in 20 yrs time that building will be dwarfed by chinese sky scrapers

  • Death to Burj Khalifa! Long live Burj Dubai!

  • @AuburnAttack21 im not sure but u do realise thats the same building

  • @TBRDragon

I know, I hate the pointless renaming.

  • @CpFan334 u dumb fuck Dubai had nothin to do with all this 9/11 bullshit just cause they are Arabs.? that was Afghanistan u prick

  • @NiceHeadMr yeh I know I was born there and it was pretty fuckin shit but didn't u hear the guy at the start of the vedio? He said that Dubai is the worlds most fastes growing city in the world wouldn't they get greenery from somewhere and make it look more life like and more inviromentaly that's somehow going to happen there in the near future

  • Look at Dubai its a fucken desert. Who wants to have penthouse view of desert and smog. If you can aford to make the worlds tallest building you can afford to plant some fucken trees. God knows you'll go bankrupt if you don't sell oil so inventing cleaner running cars is out of the question.

  • @CpFan334 TUT TUT TUT you poor stupid red neck..... Dubai or any of it rulers have never been directly or indirectly involved with any act of terrorism so why fly a plane into the Al Burj Arab? I for one take my hat off to the rulers and decision makers in Dubai for having a long term plan for they relize the liquid gold is not a bottomless pit.

  • @mochmon i think u got ur towers mixed up. The burj al arab is that 7-star hotel they built on their first man-made island. Im 99% sure that you meant to say: burj dubai, or its new name: burj khalifa. Just tryin to help out. And p.s, your statement about the rulers having a long term plan is very accurate. They will continue to be lucrative from tourism long after their liquid gold runs out. And what a fuckin lil' earwig that guy (CpFan334) is for saying we should destroy the burj dubai

  • burj dubai is like the world trade centre on top of eachother.

  • @CpFan334 you racist prick

  • Surely the islamists will find a way to make it collapse.

  • Could you also upload the aircraft carrier?

  • Pls can u gratefiully send me a copy of the video, so i can download it? thanks so much, i appreciate!

  • It is cool to see the Burj Dubai completed.

  • I wonder how much the top floor of the Burj Dubai would cost

  • Burj Khalifa, the world's largest middle finger :D

  • how can i download this whole video i need it for my project.help thx :)

  • @quickerism There is an other whole documentary for the Petronas towers in Kuala Lumbur. I have watched it and it's also impressive.

  • Just so any one did not realize the 19th century is in the 1800s. and 20th century is that 1900s. and now the 21st century through 2000, and now 2010!

  • This programme was made BEFORE the Sears Tower and Burj Dubai changed their names to the Willis Tower and Burj Khalifa respectively. They producers had no idea that the building were going to change names.

  • I understand that the building was renamed Burj Khalifa upon it's official opening this month. Up until then, or at least while under construction (and definitely when this program was made) it was the Burj Dubai.

Therefore I think the comment below about getting the name right is a little unfair

  • Guys, it is called Burj Khalifa, NOT Burj Dubai. Please do not get it wrong!

  • Prologue as narrated by John Michie:

"From the sands of the Arabian desert, rises the tallest man-made structure on Earth. A city in the sky, nearly half-a-kilometre [sic] tall, the Burj Dubai is the pinnacle of skyscraper engineering. It owes its success to seven key inventions. We have lined up seven landmark buildings, historic giants of the skyscraper world.

  • At the heart of each one, lies a major technological innovation that allowed engineers to reach ever taller into the sky. One-by-one, travelling up the scale, we'll reveal the incredible stories behind these structures and the inventions that have driven them higher. Seven ingeniously thought that had enabled skyscrapers to evolve from Big, to Bigger, into the world's BIGGEST!"

  • Comment removed

  • Last sentence correction: Seven ingenious leaps forward that have enabled skyscrapers.....

  • it is?

  • YES, of course, it is! Just like the lofty one in Chicago, it is now called the WILLIS Tower, NOT Sears Roebuck Tower anymore, savvy? Then how is it that by getting the building's name right is little unfair, given that I am merely stating its true facts? Maybe only for you, but if you already knew that it has been renamed, why do you bother to ask?

  • @H0WL1TZER hahaha so tru XD

  • Burj Slave Laboury would have been appropriate

  • i am a guy who has been brought up in dubai, born in raised in here..i love this country..n dubai specially gave alot of opportunities to the westerners, am an arab ana am proud to be part of dubai i have seen it from nothing today...Dubai ROCKs N UAE RULES...soo ppl in the western world americans ....dont hate .... obama's family financed?? come on dude!...it was financed by HH Sheikh khalifa the ruler of UAE...N sheikh mohammed ruler of Dubai... i live 5 mins away from this tower...

  • when electric cars come in the middle east will be ruined.

  • ._. Did you know Osama's family finaced this thing?

    How ironic.......

    The tower is amazing...

  • @ELANTICRASTO2008 ... hahahaha WTF are you talking abt MAN!! pff google the damn thing ! hahah .. ignorant westerners crack me UP!

  • You got trolled D:

  • arabs dreamt of it and financed it...

    skidmore co. designed it...

    koreans (samsung) monitored the construction....

its the labourers from india, bangla, sri lanka, phillipines, africa who put in 12 hours each day and infact truly "BUILT" this giant structure...

so never say arabs built it...

  • the building contractor was EMAAR an arab company.

  • @subodhbs OMG!! i havent read this much wrong information before O.o !! it was an ARAB company who "monitored" the project its called EMAAR ! ugh ..

  • It's interesting how these sorts of ostentatious projects are praised in the western world but when "3rd world" countries do it they are criticized for having the wrong priorities, ect as if they aren't capable of managing their own economies.

  • @86am dubai is not considered a developed area

  • @86am That's because people are starving in those countries and everything is shit. If Japan had built skyscrapers after the tsunami then people would have said the same. Of course they didn't, since the Japanese are capable of running a society, something arabs have clearly showed they are unable to.

  • thanks a lot for sharing

  • what a total waste of money. This building will stay empty for many years. It will simply be a white elephant, the result of a speculative bubble.

  • @Mrzoroab13 why do u even care man ! they have the MONEY! stop hatin' ! ugh ...

  • this building will be the laughing stock of the world 10 or 20 yrs from now.Only a few can affort to live a nd work in it,half of the building will be a total waste of space,,and with oil no longer be the only source of energy the whole damn town will slowly but surely will dissapeard in the sand storms.I wonder how many arabs from poor families and no resources can I educate and give a better living with 1.5 Billion USA Dollasrs??

  • About how much cash went into this building?

  • 1.5 billion USD

  • 4.1 billion usd

  • 4.1 billion? That is a shipload of cash. No wonder the world's richest are mostly there.

  • bill gates could order at least 8 of them and still have change. Pity hes not got the imagination.

  • In fact he could but he's probably saving all he can as at now. I like how wealthy Arabians do things...they take bold steps financially and it usually pays off in the end.

  • They are not rich, they have his people slaved. A true country will never do structures only for the fun of do it.

This arabs are obsessed with tall buildings while they have no nature.

  • they aren't doing it for fun? wtf!! They are investing in alternate ways of producing income because there current main source of income is oil and we all know its depleting fast. I think they are smart. Their human rights ethics are questionable though.

  • It would be awesome if the US could have something like that, but instead we spend our money in fucking IRAQ.

  • maybe a private company would build one

  • @JokinJoe It is realy sad,

  • Comment removed

  • @onlyonedk

Huh? Please, don't generalize all Americans into one category. Most of us hate this war, and wish it would end. Blame our incompetent government.

  • @JokinJoe when i said that i meant certain kind.

anyway i owe you an apology to you as well as to those who are not included.

  • @JokinJoe but 5 of the buildings there are u.s. building. but i do agree.

  • @JokinJoe imagine all the cool shit america would have if they didnt spend so much on the war

  • dubai a nice place in winter, but hell when summer...

  • God Dubai is tacky.

  • I noticed you got thumbs down for that but i agree. it looks like if you took a ghost town in the desert and randomly threw in some skyscrapers.

  • well oh course it looks like a ghost town(actually it was couple of decades ago, more like 1990) its a desert with no plantation.when they start planting trees, grassy, palm trees, it will look like an oasis, like a dreamy world. i can invision it right now, just give it a bit of an imagination. dubai will will become the center world, everyone in the world will come visit, live, pass by. its becoming like vegas except for the hookers, drugs, etc.

  • except for the hookers?? HAHA dude u ever been to one of those clubs in a hotel in Deira? Crawling with hookers. Hell you will also find hookers on the street in Al-Murqabat!

As far as drugs are concerned, I am sure if you have the connection, you can find them!

  • Reminds me of babel tower

  • my god. arabs built this? they must be super intelligent :D

  • well they didn't bulid it. they just financed it

  • yeah...dat's true...they only financed it...they've got the money because of oil...

  • Koreans along with arabs buil it (samsung)

  • no, they have alot of money. their fuckin rich! soooo rich, they build towers like these, but hey im not complaining, i think its fuckin awesome! arabs were always intelligent too by the way, just look at their histroy.

  • 4:31 "stan, cut the rope".

  • Excellent video upload, after this is complete, a taller skyscraper will be maid in dubai

  • Amazing!! That building is fantastic!! Oh..my mistake, DUBAJ city isc the most amazing place on earth!! It's my dream to visit. Who know the melody of start of film??

  • :19 nearly haflf a kilometre tall WTF its almost a km tall! stupid dumbass narraror

  • True, i bet they meant "Nearly half a mile" and got mixed up. Away with the imperial system once and for all, seriously :)

  • @HiAdrian I think he said that during the time this video was shot, the tower was half a km tall. The building wasnt finished until 2009. Half a kilometer is still around 1,800 feet or something like that (i think lol) I think when they finished in in 2009, it was like somewhere around 2300 feet. Once again i could be wrong but im just trying to make sense out of what the narrator said regarding it being half a km in height at the time of this vid. P.S: the metric system sucks :P :P

  • You're talking final height. I bet when this program was made it still hadn't passed the Taipei 101, let alone the CN Tower or (just recently) the KVLY-TV radio mast, at just over 2000 feet or about 630 metres.

Or as Hiadrian said, they might have mixed up imperial and metric; if the proposed final height of over 800 meters is to be believed, that would put it at over 2600 feet, just shy of half a mile.

  • 800 meters is Half a mile, a full mile is 1600m

  • I said 800 meters was just shy of half a mile. 804.67 meters would be half a mile exactly, if you want to split hairs. The truth is i've heard final height estimates ranging from 720 meters to 818 meters. We won't know the official final height until the building opens next fall.

  • Well, they're probably referring to the height that it is at the beginning of the video...even though it IS a half a mile tall now.

  • This is awsome
