@Wamz1978 yeah, but don't forget his later arrangements for trumpeter Blue Mitchell on his LP "Smooth as the Wind" on Riverside or his "Mating Call" LP written for John Coltrane, both are superior to The Magic Touch, which says a lot.
@DreamsCumTrue469 I don't know if I'd say they are superior, just different. But I agree both are great! I was thinking more in terms of 'The Magic Touch" serving more as a vehicle for Dameron himself rather than the performer
@Wamz1978 Good point, but most of The Magic Touch is rearrangements on previously arranged and recorded tunes. Only 3 of the 10 tunes on the LP are first time compositions and recordings. The other 7 were previously written, arranged and recorded by Dameron. Granted, anything Dameron put his hands on we are lucky to have, but I would always rate an LP of his with first-time arrangements and/or compositions over and LP of his that contained 7 new looks at previously arranged tunes.

Dexter Gordon called him the "romanticist" of the bebop movement. Thanks for sharing. Got to get this!

You're welcome, hardbop-san!!
I also imagine that perhaps Tadd Dameron was a romanticist.

So incredibly voiced by Tadd Dameron. What a great talent. Wish he were still on the scene.

Tadd Dameron was an amazing composer and arranger... the best album of his to buy is "The Magic Touch"... get that one if you don't have it!
