Very useful and inspiring. It occurred to me that this particular combination of Mobius and a MIDI footcontroller would be a means to have a more expansive multi-track version of the Boss RC-50. I love using my Boss RC-50, but the fact remains that with only three tracks you are more or less stuck with creating single ostinatos at a time. And no seamless patch switching either. Anyway, it's cool to see a proof of concept in action. Thanks!
I want to start using Mobius as VST in Ableton instead of my Echoplex DPP (have to sell it for studium) and I don't really have a clue whats the best choice for routing my guitar in my mac and again out into my amp.
I use the Behringer controller as well.. Do you have separate Interfaces for audio and midi, or is there a good one i could use for both?
I did this with mobius & Fl studio. Using two drum pads to time the loop. Do not have to play to a click track or metronome and you are not locked into a clock. At any point you can switch tempos just by relooping yourself. Also if you wanted to could bust out a guitar mid way and loop that over everything just the same.
I dont play guitar but i do play a little keyboard and was wondering if u could give me some tips on creating different sections of a song while live looping. I like the way you arranged the song it honestly doesnt even really sound like just looping imo.
@gumdrops27 I bind the pedals first in Mobius, then use the Mobius vst in Reaper/Ableton. The vst remembers the binding. Probably worth mentioning is that in Reaper, the vst behaves as expected, ie. imports any customisation made to the Mobius interface/number of tracks etc. In Ableton however, the vst is always the default layout, (which is annoying) however pedal bindings are remembered.
Nicely done! Great song as well. I use Mobuis with VST Host and a bunch of plugins that have replaced most of my hardware effects. I use the FCB 1010 as well, and I just export my tracks or loops into Audacity for final editing. I have saved so much money doing things this way and I wish I would have discovered this before I bought my RC-50, IMO Mobius is a far better tool to have than hardware loopers and it works fine for recording full tracks.
@jayjomofro yes Mobius is a great tool - especially when used in conjunction with real time effects and a solid DAW. I wish you all the best in your musical endeavors! :)
Interesting. Is it not possible to do all of this just with live, without the Mobius? After all, Live itself is a looping soft. Another Q: Are the loops being recorded to separate tracks in Live? Thanks in advance
@bergweg Hey there. Live's looper is good, however to be able to record loops to separate tracks is very awkward to set up as it requires a looper plugin on each audio track. Mobius is more advanced and has many more features than Live's looper.
The loops are being recorded into separate tracks in Mobius, not Live. :)
@RussBass48 The only real benefit of using Abletons built-in looper plugin: the ability to SET TEMPO after first freestyle loop... besides that you can beautifully and easily loop without any plugin. Just record the loops as clips to different tracks... Works like a charm.
Everything shown in this video can be done EASILY (execution and setup) with Ableton alone + all the benefits (editing clips).
Good music indeed, and an informative video too. I've git a question, if allowed: I've installed Mobius as an VST in Ableton. So far, so good. But, when I open it in Ableton, the Plugin-Window covers the whole screen and the Ableton GUI, so I can't resize it properly and don't see anything anymore. When opening it standalone, I get the same thing, unable to resize the window. How did you fit the Plugin in your Ableton as seen in the video? By the way: I use Win XP Pro. Thanks a lot.
@Zelamir Hi there. It's merely a question of screen-resolution I'm afraid. The monitor I used in the video is a 22" monitor and very high-res. The Mobius plugin window is quite large and you're correct, it can't be resized. Can you increase your screen res at all?
@RussBass48 Thanks. I've figured out, that the window can be resized in a file called ui.xml in the Mobius program directory. It can be opened with an editor, and the values can be changed and saved there. Works for me. Another question: there are (8) output configurations for each track. Is it possible to route the track output of Mobius to certain destinations within Ableton? Would be usefull to seperate the loops to apply effects and such. Puh, such a complex program! Needs quite some brain..
@Armandofm90 I use a M-Audio Fast Track Pro allowing me to connect the FCB1010 via MIDI. I'll post a link to another tutorial I produced a while back re setting up the FCB below.
@Armandofm90 YouTube won't let me post a link, but search NoTreble.com's lessons for 'looping-lesson-programming-the-behringer-fcb1010-for-use-with-mobius-live-looping-software' :)
Great! I´d like to know how did you sync both programs, i mean, is mobius as a plug in for ableton (if so, how did you install it) or are separeted programs....
@13aquarela Sorry for the late reply. Mobius does indeed run as a .vst plugin within Ableton. (or an .au on the Mac). When it is running in 'host bar' sync mode, Mobius syncs with the tempo set in Ableton.
Nice video, nice playing, and a nice song you made up there. The only thing i don't understand is, why are you using Möbius and Ableton live together? you could have all the loops recorded in ableton or have imported the audio files in mobius, that way you would only have to use one of the programs.
@Berendbaas Heya, thanks! I'm using both becasue for me, it's all in the way the two sync together. I can play to the strengths of both programs and exploit Live for it's aux channels for effects and sync the tempo meaning I have more time for pedal pushing!

Do you need a foot controller?

Can I ask what kind of Interface you use?

Hey i'm just curious how did you bind your mobius controls to your foot pedal? Did you do it directly in mobius or through ableton?

I love mobius.

@gumdrops27 I think it's the best software looper available. SooperLooper also seems very capable if on Mac or Linux.

Is it possible to have the different mobius tracks to send the audio output to separate mixer tracks in ableton or any whatever other DAW?
