I got pulled over by a cop, "Sir, do you know how fast you were going?", I questioned: "55 right?". The officer fired back: "Yeah in a school zone, with children present, and it's recess. Should I also mention that an ice cream truck is right over there? That's a heavy ticket, don't do it again." So I calmly responded: "So, what your saying is I CAN'T DRIVE 55!!!!!!" while grabbing the officer of the peace unfortunetly he thought I was going for his gun. I just finished my 4 year sentence today.

55 was pretty much the national speed limit (dropped from 65 MPH in 1978ish), thanks to Jimmy Carter's knee-jerk reaction to the Saudi's fucking us. Reagan sat on Jimmy's stupid decision for 2 terms. Then Clinton (knowing blow-jobs & driving 65 were a god given right), returned the speed limit back to 65. And here we are, 20 years after Carter said "the oil supply would be exhausted" (in 1990), drivin' & drillin'. Only difference is that now the world owns us!

From what I've heard, the national 55 mph speed limit pissed a lot of people off. In 1987, Congress modified the law so states could set 65 mph speed limits, then the law got repealed entirely in 1995.
